An Efficient Hardware Architecture for the HEVC Intra Prediction
2014
International audience; A novel intra prediction hardware architecture forthe High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) is presented in thispaper in order to reduce the computation complexity within thisstandard and to accelerate the concerned calculations, and thusto process more and more of video frames at high resolutions. Wepropose a new pipelined structure that we called ProcessingElement (PE) to calculate the angular prediction modes, and werepeat it in three paths that our design composed of. And wepresent, in this paper, a dynamic structure to carry out thePlanar mode. This architecture supports all intra predictionmodes for 8x8 and 4x4 prediction unit sizes. The synthesis resultsshow tha…
The Friedreich's Ataxia protein frataxin modulates DNA base excision repair in prokaryotes and mammals
2010
DNA-repair mechanisms enable cells to maintain their genetic information by protecting it from mutations that may cause malignant growth. Recent evidence suggests that specific DNA-repair enzymes contain ISCs (iron–sulfur clusters). The nuclearencoded protein frataxin is essential for the mitochondrial biosynthesis of ISCs. Frataxin deficiency causes a neurodegenerative disorder named Friedreich's ataxia in humans. Various types of cancer occurring at young age are associated with this disease, and hence with frataxin deficiency. Mice carrying a hepatocyte-specific disruption of the frataxin gene develop multiple liver tumours for unresolved reasons. In the present study, we show that frata…
The paradoxical management of service skills
2015
This paper focuses on service skills which are mobilized by front office agents when they are involved with customers. These skills are most of the time tacit. We consider that the way in which firms recognize these skills and contribute to their development is an important management issue. It is all the more important that a lot of jobs combine poor levels of qualification and highly situated skills.
Validation of the German version of the Kujala score in patients with patellofemoral instability : a prospective multi-centre study
2017
Introduction: The Kujala score is the most frequently used questionnaire for patellofemoral disorders like pain, instability or osteoarthritis. Unfortunately, we are not aware of a validated German version of the Kujala score. The aim of our study was the translation and linguistic validation of the Kujala score in German-speaking patients with patella instability and the assessment of its measurement characteristics. Materials and methods: The German Kujala score was developed in several steps of translation. In addition to healthy controls, the Kujala German was assessed in consecutive patients undergoing reconstruction of the medial patellofemoral ligament for recurrent patellar dislocat…
Mitochondrial and redox dysfunction in post-menopause as risk factor of neurodegenerative disease: a pilot study testing the role of a validated Japa…
2020
During the menopause women may experience increased oxidative stress and decreased antioxidant capacity and, together with the decline of neurosteroids, this represents a risk factor for Alzheimer's disease. The aim of the present study was to test a functional food (FPP-ORI, Osato Research Institute, Gifu, Japan) on redox and mitochondrial efficiency in post-menopausal women. The study population consisting of 69 untreated post-menopausal women were given supplements as follows: Group A was given a multivitamin (MV) 1c 2 times a day, and group B was given FPP 4.5 g 2 times a day. Group C consisted of 23 fertile premenopausal women as the control group. The tests carried out on entry, and a…

Technics Amélioration for geo-localization in wsn via smart computing and real time application
2022
New technologies exploiting digital information acquisition by radio frequency techniques are now commonly used in various practical fields. They are most often used to measure a variety of physical variables such as temperature, humidity, speed, etc. and are gathered under the name of Wireless Sensor Networks “WSN”. For this variant of applications, the accurate location of connected sensor nodes remains an important issue for researchers and industrial applications. Indeed, existing localization algorithms can be classified into two categories known as « range-based » and « range-free ». Range-based localization systems are characterized by major drawbacks. The first one is the cost of th…
Technology spillover and TFP growth: A spatial Durbin model
2016
Beginning with a model in which technological progress is reflected by product variety, we provide a structural approach to estimate technology spillovers allowing for spatial interdependencies. To this end, we first present a theoretical model of TFP growth by decomposing TFP into quality and variety components. We address the quality component by introducing a country׳s distance to the technological frontier. Quality is assumed to be a negative function of the technological gap of country i with respect to its own technological frontier. This technological threshold is defined as the geometric means of knowledge levels in all countries. We deal with the variety component by using R&D expe…
Reduced firing rates of pyramidal cells in the frontal cortex of APP/PS1 can be restored by acute treatment with levetiracetam
2020
Contains fulltext : 229488.pdf (Publisher’s version ) (Open Access) Contains fulltext : 229488pre.pdf (Author’s version preprint ) (Open Access) In recent years, aberrant neural oscillations in various cortical areas have emerged as a common physiological hallmark across mouse models of amyloid pathology and patients with Alzheimer's disease. However, much less is known about the underlying effect of amyloid pathology on single cell activity. Here, we used high-density silicon probe recordings from frontal cortex area of 9-month-old APP/PS1 mice to show that local field potential power in the theta and beta band is increased in transgenic animals, whereas single-cell firing rates, specifica…
The SGLT2 inhibitor empagliflozin improves the primary diabetic complications in ZDF rats
2017
Hyperglycemia associated with inflammation and oxidative stress is a major cause of vascular dysfunction and cardiovascular disease in diabetes. Recent data reports that a selective sodium-glucose co-transporter 2 inhibitor (SGLT2i), empagliflozin (Jardiance®), ameliorates glucotoxicity via excretion of excess glucose in urine (glucosuria) and significantly improves cardiovascular mortality in type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). The overarching hypothesis is that hyperglycemia and glucotoxicity are upstream of all other complications seen in diabetes. The aim of this study was to investigate effects of empagliflozin on glucotoxicity, β-cell function, inflammation, oxidative stress and endothel…
