Stabilization of a class of slowly switched positive linear systems: State-feedback control
2012
The main goal of this paper is to investigate the stabilization problem for a class of switched positive linear systems (SPLS) with average dwell time (ADT) switching in continuous-time context. State-feedback controllers and the corresponding switching law with ADT property are designed, which stabilize the closed-loop systems while keeping the states nonnegative. The proposed conditions, formulated as linear matrix inequalities, can be directly used for controller synthesis and switching designing. Finally, a numerical example is given to demonstrate the validity of the obtained results.
Acridine orange in a pumpkin-shaped macrocycle: Beyond solvent effects in the UV–visible spectra simulation of dyes
2010
Abstract We present simulation of the UV–visible spectra of acridine orange, a widely used photosensitizer for in vivo studies due to its highly environment-dependent spectroscopic properties. This dye has been investigated both in its protonated and neutral forms, either isolated or embedded in a pumpkin-shaped macromolecular cycle (cucurbit-7-uril), using time-dependent density functional theory techniques. To model this macromolecular cycle, two strategies are taken into account, allowing decoupling of the geometric and electrostatic influences of the host on the guest molecules. Experimental data are well-reproduced when using an embedding electrostatic technique, suggesting that such a…
Improvement of the techno-functional properties of pea proteins by microfluidization
2017
The use of pea (Pisum sativum (L.)) proteins in the food industry is still limited despite their good environmental sustainability, heath-oriented composition, reliable origin and stable price. However, one of the most important limitations is their low solubility which determines a number of their techno-functional properties. Microfluidization is a non-thermal emerging technology that may modify the structure and the techno-functional properties of pea proteins. Microfluidization combines high shear forces due to the stream speed and direction; impact forces from collisions with the walls and with the fluid itself; and turbulence inside the chamber. The objective of this work was to evalu…
The Psychobiosocial States (PBS-S) Scale
2019
Abstract. This study examined the factor structure and reliability of the Psychobiosocial States (PBS-S) scale in the assessment of situational performance-related experiences. We administered the scale to 483 Finnish athletes before a practice session to assess the intensity and perceived impact of their performance-related feeling states. The hypothesized two-factor structure indicating functional effects (10 items) and dysfunctional effects (10 items) toward performance was examined via exploratory structural equation modeling (ESEM) and confirmatory factor analysis (CFA). Regarding the intensity and perceived impact dimensions of reported states, ESEM and CFA showed a good fit for a tw…
Sensación de inacabado y experiencias “not just right” como motivadoras de los síntomas obsesivo-compulsivos
2016
The sense of incompleteness, “not just right” experiences and “just right” symptoms are considered motivational variables of obsessive-compulsive symptoms. This study examines the relationships between these “new” constructs and Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) related variables (symptoms, dysfunctional beliefs, perfectionism, and intolerance to uncertainty), in comparison to its association with emotional non-OCD psychopathology. The results from 267 individuals who completed self-reports indicate that individuals at risk of developing OCD score higher on the main constructs of the study than those not at risk. Only the variables incompleteness, not just right experiences and just right…
Nutraceuticals and dyslipidaemia: Beyond the common therapeutics
2014
Dyslipidaemia accelerates the atherosclerotic process and its morbid consequences; statins represent the evidence-based treatment of choice for reducing low-density lipoprotein cholesterol levels and decreasing cardiovascular events. Unfortunately, statins are frequently not available for several reasons, including intolerance, side effects or, simply, patient preference. Nutraceuticals and functional food ingredients that are beneficial to vascular health may represent useful compounds that are able to reduce the overall cardiovascular risk induced by dyslipidaemia by acting parallel to statins or as adjuvants in case of failure or in situations where statins cannot be used. The mechanisms…
Time-dependent density-functional theory in the projector augmented-wave method
2008
We present the implementation of the time-dependent density-functional theory both in linear-response and in time-propagation formalisms using the projector augmented-wave method in real-space grids. The two technically very different methods are compared in the linear-response regime where we found perfect agreement in the calculated photoabsorption spectra. We discuss the strengths and weaknesses of the two methods as well as their convergence properties. We demonstrate different applications of the methods by calculating excitation energies and excited state Born–Oppenheimer potential surfaces for a set of atoms and molecules with the linear-response method and by calculating nonlinear e…
Pathway network inference from gene expression data
2014
[EN] Background: The development of high-throughput omics technologies enabled genome-wide measurements of the activity of cellular elements and provides the analytical resources for the progress of the Systems Biology discipline. Analysis and interpretation of gene expression data has evolved from the gene to the pathway and interaction level, i.e. from the detection of differentially expressed genes, to the establishment of gene interaction networks and the identification of enriched functional categories. Still, the understanding of biological systems requires a further level of analysis that addresses the characterization of the interaction between functional modules. Results: We presen…
Small-amplitude collective modes of a finite-size unitary Fermi gas in deformed traps
2019
We have investigated collective breathing modes of a unitary Fermi gas in deformed harmonic traps. The ground state is studied by the Superfluid Local Density Approximation (SLDA) and small-amplitude collective modes are studied by the iterative Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (QRPA). The results illustrate the evolutions of collective modes of a small system in traps from spherical to elongated or pancake deformations. For small spherical systems, the influences of different SLDA parameters are significant, and, in particular, a large pairing strength can shift up the oscillation frequency of collective mode. The transition currents from QRPA show that the compressional flow patte…
The Early Bird gets the Word
2019
Success in an increasingly globalized world sets requirements for versatile communication skills and understanding about other cultures. One of the keys to success is versatile language skills, on which the European Commission spoke out as early as in 1995, recommending that every European citizen should learn two foreign languages in addition to their mother tongue. Now, more than twenty years later, the launch of early A1 language teaching that is to begin in the first grade in Finland, in January 2020, is a significant step towards this goal. Studies show that early foreign language learning needs to be carefully carried out in order to achieve positive effects and the effects that have …
