Two are not always better than one: ligand optimisation for long-living light-emitting electrochemical cells
2009
The complex [Ir(ppy)2(dpbpy)][PF6] (Hppy = 2-phenylpyridine, dpbpy = 6,6'-diphenyl-2,2'-bipyridine) has been prepared and evaluated as an electroluminescent component for light-emitting electrochemical cells (LECs); the complex exhibits two intramolecular face-to-face π-stacking interactions and long-lived LECs have been constructed; the device characteristics are not significantly improved in comparison to analogous LECs with 6-phenyl-2,2'-bipyridine. Synthesis, Characterization and Catalytic Activity of mesoporous Mn-MCM-41 materials
2011
MCM-41 has been synthesized at two different pH using cetyl-trimethylammonium bromide (CTAB) surfactant as template and adding the silica precursor to aqueous solutions containing CTAB. The obtained solids were calcined at 600 ◦C for 4 h. Mn-MCM-41 powders with different Mn/Si molar ratios were prepared using the incipient wetness method, followed by calcination at 550 ◦C for 5 h. At the end of the impregnation process the powders colour changed from white to brown whose intensity depends on manganese quantity. The materials characterization was performed by X-ray diffraction, N2 adsorption, 29Si Cross Polarization–Magic Angle Spinning NMR, and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy. The effects …
Preparation and characterisation of Ce:YAG -polycarbonate composites for white LED
2016
Ce:YAG-polycarbonate composites were prepared with several amounts of Ce:YAG in the range 0.1-5 wt.% by using melt compounding. The structure and morphology of the composites were investigated by means of X-ray diffractometry and transmission electron microscopy. The optical properties of the composites were studied by using photoluminescence spectroscopy. The intermolecular interaction between the polymer and the filler surface was investigated using 13C cross-polarization magic-angle spinning NMR spectroscopy (13C {1H} CP-MAS NMR). The results showed that the dispersion of the particles in the polymer, and the optical properties, depend on the Ce:YAG amount. The composites were combined w…
Inhibitoren der Korrosion 31 (1). Beitrag zur Inhibierung der Korrosion von Zink und Messing
1986
A symmetric tangent stiffness approach to cohesive mechanical interfaces in large displacements
2022
The present article proposes a formulation for a cohesive interface element in large displacement conditions. Theoretical and computational aspects, useful for an effective and efficient finite element implementation, are examined in details. A six-node (or higher) isoparametric interface element for two dimensional cohesive fracture propagation problems is developed. The element operators are consistently derived by a variational approach enforced in the current configuration, where a current frame is defined with axes tangential and normal to the middle line of the interface opening displacement gap. Under the constitutive assumption of small value of the modulus of the vector product bet…
Touch or touchless?:Evaluating usability of interactive displays for persons with autistic spectrum disorders
2019
Interactive public displays have been exploited and studied for engaging interaction in several previous studies. In this context, applications have been focused on supporting learning or entertainment activities, specifically designed for people with special needs. This includes, for example, those with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). In this paper, we present a comparison study aimed at understanding the difference in terms of usability, effectiveness, and enjoyment perceived by users with ASD between two interaction modalities usually supported by interactive displays: touch-based and touchless gestural interaction. We present the outcomes of a within-subject setup involving 8 ASD users…
A touchless gestural system for extended information access within a campus
2017
In the last two decades, we have witnessed a growing spread of touchless interfaces, facilitated by higher performances of computational systems, as well as the increased availability of cheaper sensors and devices. Putting the focus on gestural input, several researchers and designers used Kinect-like devices to implement touchless gestural interfaces. The latter extends the possible deployments and usage of public interactive displays. For example, wall-sized displays may become interactive even if they are unreachable by touch. Moreover, billboard-sized displays may be placed in safe cases to avoid vandalism, while still maintaining their interactivity. Finally, people with temporary or …
Comparing Tangible and Fully Virtual Haptic Systems for HMI Studies in Simulated Driving Situations
2019
International audience; The contribution of tangible and intangible feedback is compared for virtual tactile car Human-Machine Interfaces (HMI) design, to measure their performance both in static conditions and while driving. A subjectively calibrated transparent glass provides tangible passive haptics, and visual cues are used to study sensory substitution-based intangible interactions. The results show that the performance of the subjects was significantly improved in driving conditions as they interacted faster, more accurately and with a higher satisfaction. In addition, our findings highlight that the contribution of tangible systems is significantly lower in driving conditions, raisin…
Touchless Interfaces For Public Displays
2016
Public displays have lately become ubiquitous thanks to the decreasing cost of such technology and public policies supporting the development of smart cities. Depending on form factor, those displays might use touchless gestural interfaces that therefore are becoming more often the subject of public and private research. In this paper, we focus on touchless interactions with situated public displays, and introduce a pilot study on comparing two interfaces: an interface based on the Microsoft Human Interface Guidelines (HIG), a de facto standard in the field, and a novel interface, designed by us. Differently from the HIG-based one, our interface displays an avatar, which does not require an…
Xylochemicals and where to find them
2021
This article surveys a range of important platform and high value chemicals that may be considered primary and secondary 'xylochemicals'. A summary of identified xylochemical substances and their natural sources is provided in tabular form. In detail, this review is meant to provide useful assistance for the consideration of potential synthetic strategies using xylochemicals, new methodologies and the development of potentially sustainable, xylochemistry-based processes. It should support the transition from petroleum-based approaches and help to move towards more sustainability within the synthetic community. This feasible paradigm shift is demonstrated with the total synthesis of natural …
