Extraction Methods of Essential Oils From Herbs and Spices

International audience; This chapter describes both conventional and non‐conventional extraction methods of essential oils (EOs) from herbs and spices. Although hydrodistillation, steam distillation and solvent extraction are the most applied methods, several non‐conventional technologies have been evaluated, especially in respect to EO recovery, and a great potential has been attributed to these non‐conventional methods. The role of personal and professional skills of teacher in professional activity

In the article the personal qualities of the teacher, characterizing the professional pedagogical orientation of the teacher, are considered. It explores how, in the activity of the teacher, ideological conviction determines his social and moral orientation, which is expressed in social needs, moral and value orientations, a sense of public duty and civil responsibility. It is noted that the development of cognitive, emotional-strong-willed, moral, communicative qualities will contribute to the successful performance of professional activities, the effective solution of professional tasks, personal improvement.

International audience; Purpose:To test the efficacy of dietary omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids in a rat model of glaucoma induced by laser photocoagulation.Methods:Male Sprague Dawley rats were fed for 3 months with a diet containing either: 1) 17% of omega-3 fatty acids (10% EPA + 7% DHA), 2) 10% of omega-6 fatty acids (as GLA), or 3) a combination of both omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids (10% EPA + 7% DHA + 10% GLA), by comparison with a control group of animals fed with a standard diet deprived of EPA, DHA and GLA (n=10 in each group). Towards sustainable farming practices and food security: study about vulnerability of Finnish farms

The aim of this paper is to discuss food security in the context of sustainable farming practices in Finland. There are two research questions: 1) How are the Finnish farms vulnerable from the viewpoint of food security? 2) How could they increase their resilience for guaranteeing food security in the future? The paper is based on a qualitative study for which 15 Finnish food system specialists were interviewed in 2015. According to the results, three types of vulnerabilities are discovered: 1) market vulnerabilities, 2) continuity of farms, and 3) environment changes.
