Early Universe Higgs dynamics in the presence of the Higgs-inflaton and non-minimal Higgs-gravity couplings

2017

Apparent metastability of the electroweak vacuum poses a number of cosmological questions. These concern evolution of the Higgs field to the current vacuum, and its stability during and after inflation. Higgs-inflaton and non-minimal Higgs-gravity interactions can make a crucial impact on these considerations potentially solving the problems. In this work, we allow for these couplings to be present simultaneously and study their interplay. We find that different combinations of the Higgs-inflaton and non-minimal Higgs-gravity couplings induce effective Higgs mass during and after inflation. This crucially affects the Higgs stability considerations during preheating. In particular, a wide ra…

Three Duality Symmetries between Photons and Cosmic String Loops, and Macro and Micro Black Holes

2015

We present a review of two thermal duality symmetries between two different kinds of systems: photons and cosmic string loops, and macro black holes and micro black holes, respectively. It also follows a third joint duality symmetry amongst them through thermal equilibrium and stability between macro black holes and photon gas, and micro black holes and string loop gas, respectively. The possible cosmological consequences of these symmetries are discussed.

Dynamical formation of Proca stars and quasistationary solitonic objects

2018

We perform fully non-linear numerical simulations within the spherically symmetric Einstein-(complex)Proca system. Starting with Proca field distributions that obey the Hamiltonian, momentum and Gaussian constraints, we show that the self-gravity of the system induces the formation of compact objects, which, for appropriate initial conditions, asymptotically approach stationary soliton-like solutions known as Proca stars. The excess energy of the system is dissipated by the mechanism of \textit{gravitational cooling} in analogy to what occurs in the dynamical formation of scalar boson stars. We investigate the dependence of this process on the phase difference between the real and imaginary…

Neutron star collapse and gravitational waves with a non-convex equation of state

2018

The thermodynamical properties of the equation of state (EoS) of high-density matter (above nuclear saturation density) and the possible existence of exotic states such as phase transitions from nuclear/hadronic matter into quark-gluon plasma, or the appearance of hyperons, may critically influence the stability and dynamics of compact relativistic stars. From a theoretical point of view, establishing the existence of those states requires the analysis of the `convexity' of the EoS. We show indications of the existence of regions in the dense-matter EoS where the thermodynamics may be non-convex as a result of a non-monotonic dependence of the sound speed with the rest-mass density. When th…

Quantum sensor networks as exotic field telescopes for multi-messenger astronomy

2020

Multi-messenger astronomy, the coordinated observation of different classes of signals originating from the same astrophysical event, provides a wealth of information about astrophysical processes with far-reaching implications. So far, the focus of multi-messenger astronomy has been the search for conventional signals from known fundamental forces and standard model particles, like gravitational waves (GW). In addition to these known effects, quantum sensor networks could be used to search for astrophysical signals predicted by beyond-standard-model (BSM) theories. Exotic bosonic fields are ubiquitous features of BSM theories and appear while seeking to understand the nature of dark matter…

A quantum group for the Einstein's equations

2011

In this paper, we expose the construction of a possible, simple matrix quantum group structure (according to Woronowicz), related to elementary formal aspects of the Einstein field equations of General Relativity, and their possible symmetries.

Thermodynamic class II Szekeres–Szafron solutions. Regular models

2020

In a recent paper (Coll {\em et al} 2019 {\it Class. Quantum Grav.} {\bf 36} 175004) we have studied a family of Szekeres-Szafron solutions of class II in local thermal equilibrium (singular models). In this paper we deal with a similar study for all other class II Szekeres-Szafron solutions without symmetries. These models in local thermal equilibrium (regular models) are analyzed and their associated thermodynamic schemes are obtained. In particular, we focus on the subfamily of solutions which are compatible with the generic ideal gas equation of state ($p = \tilde{k} n \Theta$), and we analyze in depth two notable interpretations that follow on from the choice of two specific thermodyna…
