Effect of linker distribution in the photocatalytic activity of multivariate mesoporous crystals

2021

The use of Metal-Organic Frameworks as crystalline matrices for the synthesis of multiple component or multivariate solids by the combination of different linkers into a single material has emerged as a versatile route to tailor the properties of single-component phases or even access new functions. This approach is particularly relevant for Zr6-MOFs due to the synthetic flexibility of this inorganic node. However, the majority of materials are isolated as polycrystalline solids, which are not ideal to decipher the spatial arrangement of parent and exchanged linkers for the formation of homogeneous structures or heterogeneous domains across the solid. Here we use high-throughput methodologi…

Multiply Transitive Permutation Groups

1982

Since the beginnings of finite group theory, the multiply transitive permutation groups have exercised a certain fascination. This is mainly due to the fact that apart from the symmetric and alternating groups not many of them were known. Only very recently final results about multiply transitive permutation groups have been proved, using the classification of all finite simple groups (see 7.5).

X-Ray crystallographic and computational study on uranyl-salophen complexes bearing nitro groups.

2017

In the solid state, salophen–UO2 complexes bearing one, two, or three NO2 groups lack the pronounced ligand curvature that represents a structural hallmark for this class of compounds. A detailed structural study based on single-crystal X-ray crystallography and computational methods, comprising molecular dynamics, gas-phase Hartree Fock, and DFT calculations, was carried out to investigate the coordination properties of the uranyl cation.

Migration, Identity, and Threatened Mental Health: Examples from Contemporary Fiction.

2018

In 2015, the world saw 244 million international migrants. Migration has been shown to be both a protective and a risk factor for mental health, depending on circumstances. Furthermore, culture has an impact on perceptions and constructions of mental illness and identity, both of which can be challenged through migration. Using a qualitative research approach, we analysed five internationally acclaimed and influential novels and one theatre play that focus on aspects of identity, migration, and threatened mental health. As a mirror of society, fiction can help to understand perceptions of identity and mental suffering on an intrapsychic and societal level, while at the same time society its…

Blood pressure control in treated hypertensive patients in daily practice of Latvian family physicians.

2011

Background and Objective. The aim of this study was to evaluate blood pressure (BP) control level in treated hypertensive patients in Latvia and to compare their characteristics according to the adequacy of BP control. Materials and Methods. Family physicians collected information on demographic and clinical characteristics, and current antihypertensive treatment of 455 18–80-year-old patients with essential arterial hypertension treated for 1 or more years. Target BP was defined as values of <140/90 mm Hg for patients with low or moderate cardiovascular risk and <135/85–125/75 mm Hg for patients with high or very high risk. BP was measured in the office setting after a 5-minute rest …

Age, Health Beliefs and Breast Cancer Screening Program Participation in Valencian Community, Spain

2004

BACKGROUND: Age has a significant bearing on health beliefs related to participating in breast cancer screening programs. This study is aimed at analyzing the breast cancer-related beliefs and attitudes influencing screening program participation among different age groups. METHODS: In a transversal study, a comparison is drawn between the health-related beliefs of a group of women participating in a screening program and a group of non-participating women, taking into account three age ranges (under age 50 (N = 279), 50-60 age range (N = 463), and over age 60 (N = 271). RESULTS: Some variables significantly differ between the participating and non-participating women solely in certain subg…

Façonner la terre. Traditions techniques des potiers dans la vallée du Rhin supérieur (Xe-VIIIe siècle av. J.-C.)

2023

How was pottery made during the Bronze Age? The technological ceramic study carried out on 16 habitation and 3 funerary sites of the upper Rhine Valley and its surroundings, which date from the 10th to the 8th centuries BC, reveals an incredible variety among chaînes opératoires. Macrotraces observed on 829 ceramics are abundantly illustrated, and their interpretation is based on a review of numerous ethnographic and experimental reference papers. The chaînes opératoires are depicted by trees following a rigorous method of hierarchical data clustering. This allows technical traditions, which are inherited and transmitted among members of social- and spatial based communities, to be reconstr…

ProcessWiki: A Contribution for Bridging the Last Mile Problem in Automotive Retail

2012

In many real-world business process management (BPM) installments, the benefit of BPM is diminished by an insufficient implementation of the to-be business processes. One of the key reasons for this problem is the complexity of classical process modeling representations that exceed the BPM knowledge of many target groups.

Biopiracy and the right to self-determination of indigenous peoples.

2018

Abstract Background: Since over thirty years, I work on the unclear legal situation of in which indigenous peoples find themselves today in the beginning mainly in the USA and later also in Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The status of indigenous people and native nations is characterized as a mixture of national and international law. Hypothesis/Purpose: To clarify the status of indigenous people it is necessary to analyze and interpret carefully hundreds of old treaties, international declarations and covenants, national statutes and jurisprudence, especially the old leading decisions of the US-Supreme Court. Such an analysis and interpretation should prove that indigenous people have …
