Topiramate pharmacokinetics in neonates undergoing therapeutic hypothermia and proposal of an optimised dosing schedule.
2019
Aim The adequate dosing of topiramate in neonates undergoing therapeutic hypothermia has not been established. The aim of this study was to design a dosing schedule capable of providing topiramate serum concentrations within the accepted therapeutic range. Methods Neonates (n = 52) with hypoxic ischaemic encephalopathy and subjected to therapeutic hypothermia were dosed with topiramate, 5 mg/kg on day one and 3 mg/kg on days two to five, to decrease seizure events. A total of 451 topiramate serum concentrations obtained in the patients were used to develop a population pharmacokinetic model using a non-linear mixed-effects modelling approach. Results A one-compartment model with first-order…
Sources, determination, monitoring, and transport of carbonaceous aerosols in Mainz, Germany
1998
Abstract Total atmospheric particulate matter, total carbon (TC), and black carbon (BC) were measured over two periods, spring and summer 1994, at a sampling location in Mainz, Germany. An optical (aethalometer) and a thermal method were used to determine BC since previous studies have shown that the optical method is dependent on the source of aerosols. The thermal method chosen for calibration enables the determination of molar hydrogen to carbon ratios for total particulate carbon and BC if quartz fiber filters were pre-treated at 850°C for 4 h. A specific attenuation cross-section of ≈7 m 2 g -1 for BC on the aethalometer filter was calculated which lies between values determined for c…
Excitability regulation in the dorsomedial prefrontal cortex during sustained instructed fear responses: a TMS-EEG study
2018
AbstractBackgroundThreat detection is essential for protecting individuals from precarious situations. Early studies suggested a network of amygdala, limbic regions and dorsomedial prefrontal cortex (dmPFC) involved in fear processing. Excitability regulation in the dmPFC might be crucial for physiological fear processing, while an abnormal excitability pattern could lead to mental illness. Non-invasive paradigms to measure excitability regulation during fear processing in humans are missing.MethodsWe adapted an experimental approach of excitability characterization using electroencephalography (EEG) recordings and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) over the dmPFC during an instructed …
Efficacy, safety and tolerability of aripiprazole in bipolar disorder: An updated systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials
2017
Numerous studies have investigated aripiprazole as a treatment for bipolar disorder (BD). therefore we conducted this comprehensive meta-analysis to investigate the efficacy and safety profile of aripiprazole in treating BD. Two authors conducted systematic searches of PubMed and ScienceDirect from inception until May 14th, 2017. Randomized controlled trials (RCTs) of people with BD who received aripiprazole were included. A total of 20 RCTs met the eligibility criteria, including two which investigated the efficacy of aripiprazole versus haloperidol (aripiprazole = 340; haloperidol = 337), three which compared aripiprazole versus lithium (aripiprazole = 208; lithium = 212), and 15 with mul…
Lipid phase transition in saccharide-coated cholate-containing liposomes: coupling to the surrounding matrix.
2005
We performed FTIR measurements on cholate-containing liposomes (CCL) embedded in saccharide (trehalose or sucrose) matrixes with different contents of residual water. We obtained information on the CCL phase transition following the thermal evolution (310-70 K) of the IR spectrum of the carbonyl moieties of phospholipids in the frequency range 4225-4550 cm(-1). Furthermore, we simultaneously followed the thermal evolution of the water association band, which gave information on the behavior of the surrounding water-saccharide matrix. The analysis revealed a small sub-band of the water association band present in CCL but not in cholate-free liposomes, the thermal evolution of which is tightl…
Synthesis and Characterisation of Chiral Triazole-Based Halogen-Bond Donors: Halogen Bonds in the Solid State and in Solution
2017
A general platform for the synthesis of various chiral halogen-bond (XB) donors based on the triazole core and the characterisation of factors that influence the strength of the halogen bond in the solid state and in solution are reported. The characterisation of XB donors in the solid state by X-ray crystallography and in solution by 1H NMR titration can be used to aid the design of new XB donors. We describe the first example of a XB between iodotriazoles and thioureas in solution. In addition, the enantiodiscrimination of acceptors in solution through halogen-bond participation is described.
Occurrence of DBPs in Drinking Water of European Regions for Epidemiology Studies
2016
International audience; A three-year study was conducted on the occurrence of disinfection by-products (DBPs) - trihalomethanes (THMs), haloacetic acids (HAAs), and haloacetonitriles - in drinking water of regions of Europe where epidemiology studies were being carried out. Thirteen systems in six countries (i.e., Italy, France, Greece, Lithuania, Spain, United Kingdom) were sampled. Typically chlorinated DBPs dominated. However, in most of Catalonia (Spain) and in Heraklion (Greece), brominated DBPs dominated. The degree of bromine incorporation into the DBP classes was in general similar among them. This is important, as brominated DBPs are a greater health concern. In parts of Catalonia,…
Halogen‐Imparted Reactivity in Lithium Carbenoid Mediated Homologations of Imine Surrogates: Direct Assembly of bis‐Trifluoromethyl‐β‐Diketiminates a…
2020
The selective formal insertion (homologation) of a carbon unit bridging the two trifluoroacetamidoyl chlorides (TFAICs) units is reported. The tactic is levered on a highly chemoselective homologation-metalation-acyl nucleophilic substitution sequence which precisely enables to assemble novel trifluoromethylated β-diketiminates within a single synthetic operation. Unlike previous homologations conducted with LiCH2Cl furnishing aziridines, herein we exploit the unique capability of iodomethyllithium to act contemporaneously as a C1 source (homologating effect) and metalating agent. The mechanistic rationale grounded on experimental evidences supports the hypothesized proposal and, the struct…
The preparation of (14C) and [3H] labelled benzene oxide
1977
Benzene oxide -[U-14C] was prepared from benzene -(U-14C) by modifications of methods described for the inactive compound. Benzene oxide-[3.6–3H] was prepared by decomposition of 3.6-bis-trimethylsilyl-1,4-cyclohexadiene with tritiated water. bromination of the 1,4-cyclohexadiene-[3,6-3H] so obtained. epoxidation and dehydrobromination. With the latter method benzene oxide-[3,6–3H] can be prepared at a much lower cost and higher specific activity than benzene oxide-[U-14C].
