Event-related brain potentials to change in the frequency and temporal structure of sounds in typically developing 5-6-year-old children.

2015

The brain's ability to recognize different acoustic cues (e.g., frequency changes in rapid temporal succession) is important for speech perception and thus for successful language development. Here we report on distinct event-related potentials (ERPs) in 5-6-year-old children recorded in a passive oddball paradigm to repeated tone pair stimuli with a frequency change in the second tone in the pair, replicating earlier findings. An occasional insertion of a third tone within the tone pair generated a more merged pattern, which has not been reported previously in 5-6-year-old children. Both types of deviations elicited pre-attentive discriminative mismatch negativity (MMN) and late discrimina…

Enterococcal meningitis caused by Enterococcus casseliflavus. First case report

2005

Abstract Background Enterococcal meningitis is an uncommon disease usually caused by Enterococcus faecalis and Enterococcus faecium and is associated with a high mortality rate. Enterococcus casseliflavus has been implicated in a wide variety of infections in humans, but never in meningitis. Case presentation A 77-year-old Italian female presented for evaluation of fever, stupor, diarrhea and vomiting of 3 days duration. There was no history of head injury nor of previous surgical procedures. She had been suffering from rheumatoid arthritis for 30 years, for which she was being treated with steroids and methotrexate. On admission, she was febrile, alert but not oriented to time and place. H…

Ādas mezenhimālo cilmes šūnu fenotipa raksturojums pēc neirotrofo faktoru inducētas neirodiferenciācijas

2015

Mezenhimālo marķieru ekspresija samazinājās vienā no …

Chiral coupled channel dynamics of theΛ(1520)and theK−p→π0π0Λreaction

2005

We study the $\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1520){D}_{03}$ in a chiral coupled channel approach. This resonance appears to be dynamically generated from the interaction of the decuplet of baryons and the octet of mesons in s wave, and its treatment is improved here with the phenomenological inclusion of the $\overline{K}N$ and $\ensuremath{\pi}\ensuremath{\Sigma}$ channels in d wave. Since the most important building block in $\ensuremath{\Lambda}(1520)$ is the $\ensuremath{\pi}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{*}(1385){P}_{13}$ channel, we study the ${K}^{\ensuremath{-}}p\ensuremath{\rightarrow}\ensuremath{\pi}{\ensuremath{\Sigma}}^{*}(1385)({\ensuremath{\pi}}^{0}\ensuremath{\Lambda})$ reaction in the region …

Measurements of baryon pair decays of chi(cJ) mesons

2013

Using 106 $\times 10^{6}$ $\psi^{\prime}$ decays collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII, three decays of $\chi_{cJ}$ ($J=0,1,2$) with baryon pairs ($\llb$, $\ssb$, $\SSB$) in the final state have been studied. The branching fractions are measured to be $\cal{B}$$(\chi_{c0,1,2}\rightarrow\Lambda\bar\Lambda) =(33.3 \pm 2.0 \pm 2.6)\times 10^{-5}$, $(12.2 \pm 1.1 \pm 1.1)\times 10^{-5}$, $(20.8 \pm 1.6 \pm 2.3)\times 10^{-5}$; $\cal{B}$$(\chi_{c0,1,2}\rightarrow\Sigma^{0}\bar\Sigma^{0})$ = $(47.8 \pm 3.4 \pm 3.9)\times 10^{-5}$, $(3.8 \pm 1.0 \pm 0.5)\times 10^{-5}$, $(4.0 \pm 1.1 \pm 0.5) \times 10^{-5}$; and $\cal{B}$$(\chi_{c0,1,2}\rightarrow\Sigma^{+}\bar\Sigma^{-})$ = $(45.4 \pm…

Λ(1520)andΣ(1385)in the nuclear medium

2006

Recent studies of the {lambda}(1520) resonance within chiral unitary theory with coupled channels find the resonance as a dynamically generated state from the interaction of the decuplet of baryons and the octet of mesons, essentially a quasibound state of {pi}{sigma}{sup *}(1385) in this case, although the coupling of the {lambda}(1520) to the KN and {pi}{sigma} makes this picture only approximate. The {pi}{sigma}{sup *}(1385) decay channel of the {lambda}(1520) is forbidden in free space for the nominal mass of the {sigma}{sup *}(1385), but the coupling of the {pi} to ph components in the nuclear medium opens new decay channels of the {lambda}(1520) in the nucleus and produces a much larg…

Ubendian basement and its late Mesoproterozoic and early Neoproterozoic structural and metamorphic overprint in northeastern Zambia

2004

The Palaeoproterozoic basement in the Muyombe and Luwumbu River areas of northeastern Zambia comprises a WNW‐ESE (to E‐W) trending cordierite‐garnet‐sillimanite granulite unit with numerous enderbite bodies and an amphibolite-facies migmatite unit. Zircons from a biotite metatonalite intruding the granulites were dated at 1960.7±0.4 Ma, and this is time-equivalent with the Nyika granite in adjacent Malawi. Mesoproterozoic intrusions into this basement are represented by a nepheline syenite at Mivula Hill (zircon age: 1360.1±0.8 Ma) and the porphyritic Ntendele biotite metagranite (zircon age: 1329.1±0.6 Ma). The Ntendele granite attains plutonic dimensions north of Muyombe. The Mesoproteroz…

Pigmented desmoplastic trichilemmoma

2016

Desmoplastic trichilemmoma (DT), the pseudomalignant variant of conventional trichilemmoma described by Hunt et al in 1990, displays a superficial lobular growth pattern of glycogen-rich cells with peripheral nuclear palisading surrounded by a thickened basement membrane. DT differs from its conventional counterpart by showing a central hyalinized area with epithelial cords and strands mimicking invasive carcinoma. We report a case that fully satisfies the criteria for DT and, in addition, shows an extensive melanocytic cell component and prominent melanin deposition. To our knowledge, a pigmented variant of DT has not been reported and should be recognized in order to appropriately face th…
