Classification of SD-OCT volumes with multi pyramids, LBP and HOG descriptors: application to DME detections.

2016

This paper deals with the automated detection of Diabetic Macular Edema (DME) on Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) volumes. Our method considers a generic classification pipeline with preprocessing for noise removal and flattening of each B-Scan. Features such as Histogram of Oriented Gradients (HOG) and Local Binary Patterns (LBP) are extracted and combined to create a set of different feature vectors which are fed to a linear-Support Vector Machines (SVM) Classifier. Experimental results show a promising sensitivity/specificity of 0.75/0.87 on a challenging dataset.

Retrieval of oceanic chlorophyll concentration with relevance vector machines

Abstract In this communication, we evaluate the performance of the relevance vector machine (RVM) for the estimation of biophysical parameters from remote sensing data. For illustration purposes, we focus on the estimation of chlorophyll-a concentrations from remote sensing reflectance just above the ocean surface. A variety of bio-optical algorithms have been developed to relate measurements of ocean radiance to in situ concentrations of phytoplankton pigments, and ultimately most of these algorithms demonstrate the potential of quantifying chlorophyll-a concentrations accurately from multispectral satellite ocean color data. HD-RTI: an adaptive multi-light imaging approach for the quality assessment of manufactured surfaces

International audience; Reflectance Transformation Imaging (RTI) is a technique for estimating surface local angular reflectance from a set of stereo-photometric images captured with variable lighting directions. The digitization of this information fully fits into the industry 4.0 approach and makes it possible to characterize the visual properties of a surface. Bimanual robot control for surface treatment tasks

This work develops a method to perform surface treatment tasks using a bimanual robotic system, i.e. two robot arms cooperatively performing the task. In particular, one robot arm holds the workpiece while the other robot arm has the treatment tool attached to its end-effector. Moreover, the human user teleoperates all the six coordinates of the former robot arm and two coordinates of the latter robot arm, i.e. the teleoperator can move the treatment tool on the plane given by the workpiece surface. Ricci-flow based conformal mapping of the proximal femur to identify exercise loading effects.

AbstractThe causal relationship between habitual loading and adaptive response in bone morphology is commonly explored by analysing the spatial distribution of mechanically relevant features. In this study, 3D distribution of features in the proximal femur of 91 female athletes (5 exercise loading groups representing habitual loading) is contrasted with 20 controls. The solvent-excluding surface as a descriptor of ionic channels: Gramicidin-A

Abstract We have set out a methodology for checking the performance of the methods used to compute the Solvent-Excluding Surface. The method consists of computing the area of the Solvent-Excluding Surface of a model of channel, with a fixed pore size, for several values of the solvent radius. The graphical representation of the value of the area versus the radius of the solvent sphere shows a sharp change just at the radius of the pore. Two View Line-Based Motion and Structure Estimation for Planar Scenes

We present an algorithm for reconstruction of piece-wise planar scenes from only two views and based on minimum line correspondences. We first recover camera rotation by matching vanishing points based on the methods already exist in the literature and then recover the camera translation by searching among a family of hypothesized planes passing through one line. Semi-Regular Triangle Remeshing: A Comprehensive Study

Semi-regular triangle remeshing algorithms convert irregular surface meshes into semi-regular ones. Especially in the field of computer graphics, semi-regularity is an interesting property because it makes meshes highly suitable for multi-resolution analysis. In this paper, we survey the numerous remeshing algorithms that have been developed over the past two decades. We propose different classifications to give new and comprehensible insights into both existing methods and issues. We describe how considerable obstacles have already been overcome, and discuss promising perspectives.

Geometric Properties of the 3D Spine Curve

Through a 3D reconstruction of the human back surface using structured light techniques, we study the properties of spine curve by means of a set of parameters related to measures commonly applied in medicine. In this way, descriptors for measuring the abnormalities in the projections of the front and sagittal planes can be computed. We build the spine curve in 3D and analyse the behaviour of the Frenet frame when along the curve the deformation processes in idiophatic scoliosis appear.
