A heterogeneous and reconfigurable machine-vision system

This paper describes a new machine-vision system, a HERMIA heterogeneous and reconfigurable machine for image analysis. The architecture topology of the HERMIA machine is reconfigurable; moreover, the integration of its special modules allows a search for optimal strategies to solve vision problems. The general architecture and the hardware implementation are described. The software environment of the HERMIA machine provides a full iconic interface and a pictorial language oriented to vision in multiprocessor architectures. The preliminary system evaluation and applications are shown. © 1995 Springer-Verlag.

Insect brains use image interpolation mechanisms to recognise rotated objects.

Recognising complex three-dimensional objects presents significant challenges to visual systems when these objects are rotated in depth. The image processing requirements for reliable individual recognition under these circumstances are computationally intensive since local features and their spatial relationships may significantly change as an object is rotated in the horizontal plane. International audience; We propose a methodology inspired by Gestalt laws to ex- tract and combine features and we test it on the object cat- egory recognition problem. Gestalt is a psycho-visual the- ory of Perceptual Organization that aims to explain how vi- sual information is organized by our brain. En torno a l'Horta de Valéncia se generó, a lo largo de los siglos XIX y XX una poderosa imagen cultural, que convirtió este espacio en el más conocido estereotipo del paisaje valenciano. A lo largo de las últimas décadas, no obstante, l'Horta ha sufrido importantes transformaciones que han afectado a los principales elementos y estructuras del paisaje, algunos de ellos hoy apenas reconocibles. A partir de las experiencias recogidas con motivo de dos visitas de estudiantes y escolares, el presente artículo pone de relieve el desfase existente entre la imagen cultural y la imagen real de la huerta. Impact of textual data augmentation on linguistic pattern extraction to improve the idiomaticity of extractive summaries

Codebook is an effective image representation method. By clustering in local image descriptors, a codebook is shown to be a distinctive image feature and widely applied in object classification. In almost all existing works on codebooks, the building of the visual vocabulary follows a basic routine, that is, extracting local image descriptors and clustering with a user-designated number of clusters. What Conclusions does Rapid Image Classification by Eye Movements Provide for Machine Vision?

Human ability to rapidly classify images of natural objects has been a matter of study for more than a decade. Recently eye movements have been exploited as a behavioural response, which has lead to alternative hypotheses of natural image processing. In this research, twelve volunteers made a movement towards a briefly displayed digital image if it was an animal, and a movement away otherwise. In both cases, the average response time was more than 400 milliseconds.
