The theory of informal transactions in bureaucracies: some qualifications
1986
The ambition of the paper is certainly not to change substantially Breton and Wintrobe‘s story. We can be sure that many of the differentpieces that they have forged and assembled in their book v ill be replaced or modified in the course of time. This is the fate of all interesting theories. But only time-consuming and collective efforts can achieve this. The only ambition of this paper is a small beginning in that direction. Section II of the paper compares some of the mechanisms, others than trust, vhich have been proposed to explain self-enforcing exchanges. Then, Breton 8nd Wint robe's modelling of trust and trust accumulation is looked at critically in Section III. Section IV presents …
Mentoring of Newly Qualified Teachers in the Educational Sense
2017
The importance of lifelong learning in teachers’ professional development has become increasingly topical issue globally. In teaching, especially the transition from education to occupation seems to be more challenging compared to other fields. It is evident that under the rapidly changing circumstances teachers’ professional knowledge has to be constantly renewed, and especially in the phase of transition from teacher education to working life, new approaches are needed. peerReviewed
Family networks and refugees’ health conditions. A picture from Italian informal settlements
2021
While the relationships between social networks and health are widely acknowledged in the literature, few of these studies have covered the population of refugees living in makeshift camps. In our analysis of a nationally representative Italian survey of individuals living in informal settlements, we find that many had weak family relations: only 10 per cent had one or more family members in their settlement. The paper analyses the effects of individual social network on two measures of health, and finds that the refugees’ health conditions were associated with both their personal characteristics and the characteristics of the settlement. The results show that more than 50 per cent of these…
Context of validation of non-formal and informal learning in Spain: a comprehensive view
2019
The system of validation and accreditation of professional qualifications in Spain is offered as a certification opportunity, especially for vulnerable groups. The procedure is presented as an evaluative proposal that allows some inequalities associated with training and employment to be addressed. In this article we analyse whether this system really fosters social cohesion, considering the political situation that frames the procedure and the educational approach underlying it. The research methodology combines the documentary analysis and interviews with the application of the Delphi method. The most relevant results show that the socio-political context is favourable to competences accr…
Utilizing Informal Formative Assessment and Dialogicity During Reflections on Educational Dialogue in Mathematics
2022
In this study, educational dialogue is explored through informal formative assessment and dialogicity. We enhance the understanding of informal formative assessment and dialogicity by considering their relationship. Even though the interconnection of informal formative assessment and dialogicity is acknowledged, it has not been explicitly examined in research on educational dialogue. The data consists of video-stimulated joint reflections between mathematics student teachers and a teacher educator. The reflections were part of a teacher education program integrated in a mathematics pedagogic course. Conversational analysis was conducted to detect interactional patterns and indicators that e…
Incorporating teacher-student dialogue into digital course material : Usage patterns and first experiences
2020
This work-in-progress research investigates teacher-student communication via Learning Management Systems (LMS) in highly populated courses. An LMS called TIM (The Interactive Material) includes a specific commenting technology that attempts to make teacher-student dialog effortless. The research goal is to explore students’ willingness to use the technology and identify patterns of usage. To these ends, a survey with both Likert and open-ended questions was issued to CS1 and CS2 students. A favorable student evaluation was observed while several critical viewpoints that inform technology development were revealed. We noticed that besides appreciating the possibility of making comments, man…

2017
Digitaalisuus, videopelit ja pelillisyys ovat ilmiöinä kasvaneet hyvin tärkeäksi osaksi elämää monilla elämän osa-alueilla kahden viime vuosikymmenen aikana eikä kasvatusala ole poikkeus. Pelit on otettu tärkeäksi kielen oppimisen työkaluksi kaikilla opiskeluasteilla Suomessa. Vaikka oppimispelit on oma äärimmäisen tärkeä osansa kielten oppimisessa, on pelien tärkeys oppimisen välineenä kuitenkin muualla kuin luokkahuoneessa. Pelit ovat hyödyllisiä informaalisen oppimisen välineitä. Tässä tutkielmassa käsittelen aikaista toisen kielen informaalia sanaston oppimista internet-pelien kautta. Tämän lisäksi lukija tutustuu pelien yleisiin hyötyihin oppimiseen nähden sekä aiempaan pelitutkimuksee…
