Postcolonial Intersections: Transnational Women Voices from Minor Italy

2017

The rising corpus of Italian postcolonial literature, mainly by women writers originally from the Horn of Africa, is urging Italian letters to engage with other contemporary transnational productions, thus challenging the notion of national canons and vertical power relations, in favor of a writing seeking for horizontal, minor connections unmediated by the center, as suggested by Francoise Lionnet and Shu-mei Shih, whose work on Minor Transnationalism draws from Deleuze & Guattari and Edouard Glissant. As a case of point, the article offers a reflection on Ubax Cristina Ali Farah's narratives and their use of language.

Translating Sardinia into Chinese: How Indirect Translation Affected the Reception of Geographic and Culture-bounds Words in Deledda’s Short Fiction

2020

As in the case of many literary traditions originating from minor countries, in Late Imperial and Early Republican China several Italian literary works reached the Chinese readership through the mediation of foreign translations, mostly composed in English and French, as well as Japanese. Such languages, which Chinese literati and intellectuals had started to master, served as a catalyst and contributed to the diffusion of promising works which were starting to approach the international literary landscape, but were hardly able to reach China in their original form. In this context, also Grazia Deledda’s literary production has been introduced by the early 20th century Chinese translators t…

Las traducciones del Decameron de Boccaccio en España (1800-1940)

2008

This is a review of every translation of the Decameron (total, partial, adaptations) undertaken in Spain between 1800 and 1940. Many of the anthologies reviewed give priority to the novelle with greater erotic or anticlerical content, although this is often toned down by censure or self-censure. The result is rather poor: the Decameron has been published on very few occasions by a renowned editor or a skilled translator. Most of the translations are from the French, and many of these plagiarise each other. The real number of translations is therefore quite low (only one of the three complete translations is directly from the Italian). The language used in the translations is generally poor.…
