The Sapiehas and the Potockis were amongst the most influential families of the Polish‑Lithuanian Commonwealth. The latter family owned numerous estates in Ukraine, which were directly under threat from marching Lithuanian soldiers. Kazimierz Jan Sapieha, Grand Hetman of Lithuania was in charge of the said estates. Due to cooperation of the two magnate families, he attempted to shield the Potockis’ estates and possessions from Lithuanian troops marching to or returning from the war with Turkey. In this study, ultrasonication (US) (50 W, 30 kHz, 1–6 min) was used to increase the efficiency of Limosilactobacillus reuteri PTCC 1655 fermentation process (37 °C; 30 h) of Bakraei juice. Total sugars, pH, Brix, organic acids, vitamin C, polyphenols, antioxidant activity, α-amylase inhibition and anti-inflammatory properties were measured during the fermentation period. The results showed that by increasing the ultrasound time up to 5 min, pH, vitamin C, citric acid, and polyphenolic compounds decreased, while lactic acid, antioxidant capacity, α-amylase inhibition and anti-inflammatory properties were increased. Description of kraft cooking and oxygen–alkali delignification of bamboo by pulp and dissolving material analysis

Abstract The oxygen delignification of two bamboo ( Bambusa procera ) kraft pulps with kappa numbers of 13.6 and 20.0 were studied under typical conditions. Based on detailed analysis data on both the kraft and oxygen-delignified pulps and the corresponding spent liquors (black liquors and oxygen stage effluents), three yield and four selectivity estimation methods, utilizing component material balances, were tested resulting in the value ranges 96.2–97.9% and 43.5–60.4%, respectively, for oxygen delignification process studied. Abstract Delignification of bamboo ( Bambusa procera acher ) was carried out by conventional kraft and soda pulping under varying conditions to determine the relationships between selected cooking parameters (EA 14–20%, sulfidity 0–45%, maximum temperature 165 and 170 °C, and time at maximum temperature 30–95 min) and pulp properties (kappa number, viscosity, and yield). Results indicated that in order to obtain relatively low kappa numbers (17–24), high sulfidity (35–45%) at lower EA (14–16%) increased both pulp viscosity and yield compared to the case of low sulfidity (0–15%) at higher EA (16–18%). In this chapter, Keith Breen and Onni Hirvonen examine the case for democratic worker voice based on the republican ideal of freedom as non-domination. While not unconvincing, this case is primarily consequentialist in character and therefore open to significant empirical disagreement.
