Ar 2016. gada 23. jūnija referendumu Apvienotā Karaliste uzsāka savu izstāšanās procesu no Eiropas Savienības. Saskaņā ar Līguma par Eiropas Savienību 50. pantu, pēc vēlmes izstāties paziņošanas Eiropadomei, ES un dalībvalsts uzsāk sarunu procedūru, kuras laikā cenšas noslēgt līgumu par turpmāko sadarbību savā starpā. Tā kā līdz šim nepastāv prakse par dalībvalstu izstāšanos no ES, sarunu process ir vienlaikus sarežģīts iesaistītajām pusēm, bet interesants novērotājiem no malas. Background: In this cross-sectional, international study, we aimed to analyze vector-borne and zoonotic infections (VBZI), which are significant global threats. Method: VBZIs’ data between May 20–28, 2018 was collected. The 24 Participatingcountries were classified as lower-middle, upper-middle, and high-income. Results: 382 patients were included. 175(45.8%) were hospitalized, most commonly in Croatia, Egypt, and Romania(P = 0.001). There was a significant difference between distributions of VBZIs according to geographical regions(P < 0.001). Amebiasis, Ancylostomiasis, Blastocystosis, Cryptosporidiosis, Giardiasis, Toxoplasmosis were significantly more common in the Middle-East while B…

Pētījuma mērķis bija salīdzināt Latvijas karavīru, kuri ir dienējuši Starptautiskajās operācijās, ugunsdzēsēju un policistu pašu novērtētos traumas simptomus, noskaidrot sakarības starp dažādiem traumatiskās pieredzes aspektiem un traumas simptomiem katras grupas ietvaros, salīdzināt iedzīvotāju, policistu un ugunsdzēsēju priekšstatus par psiholoģisko traumatismu augsta riska profesijās, kā arī noskaidrot, kas ir pašu uztvertie palīdzošie faktori ugunsdzēsēju un policistu vidū. Pētījumā piedalījās 50 karavīri, vecumā no 24 līdz 49 gadiem (M=32,4, SD=5,5), 65 ugunsdzēsēji vecumā no 19 līdz 58 gadiem (M=36,1, SD=9,6), 85 policisti vecumā no 20 līdz 59 gadiem (M=33, SD=9), visi vīrieši. The Sapiehas and the Potockis were amongst the most influential families of the Polish‑Lithuanian Commonwealth. The latter family owned numerous estates in Ukraine, which were directly under threat from marching Lithuanian soldiers. Kazimierz Jan Sapieha, Grand Hetman of Lithuania was in charge of the said estates. Due to cooperation of the two magnate families, he attempted to shield the Potockis’ estates and possessions from Lithuanian troops marching to or returning from the war with Turkey. Abstract In 1648, an uprising broke out in Ukraine that belonged to Poland at the time. The war was not successful for the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth. The Cossacks and Tartars, who were helping them during the war, surrounded Zbaraż, about whose defense everyone knew in the country. King Jan Kazimierz decided to set out to rescue the besieged fortress. It was decided that not only Polish troops, but also soldiers of Lithuania would set out for Ukraine. Technological change and wage premiums: historical evidence from linked employer-employee data

This study analyses the impacts of a technological change (the steam engine) on wage premiums. Using historical employer–employee panel data, we found that steam technology had both new skill-demanding and skill-replacing aspects. The former manifested itself as an increase in the demand for high-skilled engineers, the latter in a decline in the demand for intermediate-skilled, able-bodied seamen and an increase in the demand for unskilled engine room operators. Primary identities in the lower Omo valley: migration, cataclysm, conflict and amalgamation, 1750–1910

This article applies the notion of primary identity to explore the emergence of ethnic identities in the southern-most tract of the lower Omo valley. Current identities here are the result of two correlated patterns of movement that have occurred over the past 150 years: migration to the valley by organised pastoralists and scattered groups, and a general movement down the river and into the Omo delta, where the ecological niche generated by the regular flooding of the Omo River provided a rich variety of livelihood alternatives.
