Noise levels of a track-laying tractor during field operations in the vineyard

2013

Noise in agriculture is one of the risk factors to be taken into account in the assessment of the health and safety of workers; in particular, it is known that the tractor is a source of high noise. The Italian Low Decree 81/2008 defined the requirements for assessing and managing noise risk identifying a number of procedures to be adopted at different noise levels to limit workers exposure. This paper concerns the analysis of the noise risk arising from the use of a tracklaying tractor during field operations carried out in the vineyard. The objective of this study was to evaluate the noise level that comes close to the ear of the operator driving the tractor measuring the values of equiva…

An explanation for unexpected 802.11 outdoor link-level measurement results

2008

This paper provides experimental evidence that "weird'/poor outdoor link-level performance measurements may be caused by driver/card-specific antenna diversity algorithms unexpectedly supported/activated at the WLAN transmitter side. We focus our analysis on the Atheros/MADWiFi card/driver case, and we observe that the transmit antenna diversity mechanisms remain by default enabled when the available antennas are not homogeneous in terms of gain or, even worse, when only a single antenna is connected. This may cause considerable performance impairments (large frame loss ratio), in conditions frequently encountered in outdoor link deployments. The negative impact of transmit antenna diversit…

Chloroplast morphology and pyrenoid ultrastructural analyses reappraise the diversity of the lichen phycobiont genus Trebouxia (Chlorophyta)

2022

Abstract Trebouxiophyceae is a wide class of green algae comprising coccoid and elliptic unicells, filaments, blades and colony-forming species that occur in diverse terrestrial and aquatic environments. Within this class, the genus Trebouxia Puymaly is among the most widespread lichen phycobionts worldwide. However, the 29 formally described species based on the combination of morphological traits and genetic diversity woefully underrepresented the overall species-level diversity recognized in the genus. In Trebouxia, reliable differentiation and characterization of the species-level lineages can be achieved by studying the diversity of key diagnostic features of pyrenoid ultrastructure an…

Deep stratosphere-to-troposphere transport (STT) over SE Europe: a complex case study captured by enhanced 7Be…

2005

Abstract. In this study we present a complex case study of a Stratosphere-to-Troposphere Transport (STT) event down to the surface of a low topography region in Northern Greece, during the second fortnight of March 2000. During this event our surface station at Livadi (23°15 E/40°32 N, 850 m a.s.l.), was influenced by very different synoptic systems developing over Eastern Europe, N. America and the N. Atlantic, the last one evolving to a cut-off low over France/Spain. This is the first study, to our knowledge, that presents a down to the surface STT event in the eastern Mediterranean. The intrusion is primarily captured with the use of the cosmogenic radionuclide 7Be, which increased to 9.…

IoT-MAAC: Multiple Attribute Access Control for IoT environments

2020

Access Control is an important security service that should be considered in IoT environments in order to offer reliable IoT services. Access control in IoT environments concerns not only the access of IoT users to IoT services and objects, but also the access of IoT objects to IoT gateways. In this paper, we specify an access control mechanism that considers the access of IoT objects to IoT gateways in order to enhance the reliability of IoT data provided by the IoT objects. Our proposed access control mechanism, called IoT-MAAC (Multi Attribute Access Control), allows retrieving requested data from the most reliable and secured IoT objects among the available objects in the IoT environmen…

Multi-mycotoxin determination in barley and derived products from Tunisia and estimation of their dietary intake.

2017

A study on raw barley and derived products (barley soup and beers) was carried out to determine the natural presence of twenty-four mycotoxins by both liquid chromatography and gas chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS). The developed multi-mycotoxin procedure was based on both SLE and QuEChERS extraction steps. 66% of analyzed samples presented mycotoxin contamination and only one sample, which was soup of barley (6 ng/g), exceeded the maximum level (ML) established by EU for OTA (5 ng/g). Raw barley was the most contaminated matrix (62%), which concentrations ranged from 1.70 to 287.13 ng/g) and type of detected mycotoxins (DON, 15AcDON, NEO, NIV, HT2, FB1, OTA, ENA, E…

Calculation of turbo- roundabouts with slip lanes

2013

A turbo roundabout is a particular type of roundabout where all lanes are bounded by traffic signs and by non-mountable curbs installed at entering and circulating lanes. Turbo roundabouts also have a very particular shape to accomplish the splitting of traffic streams and to prevent cars weaving through. These aspects make turbo-roundabouts more appropriate than roundabouts when a higher level of safety has to be guaranteed, particularly in presence of relevant pedestrian and two-wheels traffic volumes. Only in some traffic conditions, turbo roundabouts can offer higher capacities than conventional double-lanes roundabouts, so if more capacity must be guarantee a bypass lane can be added t…

Turbo-Roundabouts: a Model to Evaluate Capacity, Delays, Queues and Level of Service

2012

A turbo roundabout is a particular type of roundabout where entering and circulating lanes are bounded by traffic signs and by non-mountable curbs. The physical separation between lanes, both at entries and on the ring, helps to prevent side collisions crossing the roundabout. The main advantages of turbo roundabouts are: i) reduction in the number of potential conflict points; ii) lower speed of vehicles passing through the intersection; iii) safety conditions at the intersection due to lower risk of side-by-side accidents. These aspects make turbo-roundabouts more appropriate than roundabouts when a higher level of safety has to be guaranteed, particularly in presence of relevant pedestri…

Expression of phase-specific haemolymph polypeptides in a laboratory strain and field catches of Schistocerca gregaria.

2003

Uvarov's theory of locust phase polymorphism implies a differential phase-specific gene expression. It was the goal of the present investigation to provide data on the molecular level for this concept. We used the technique of 2D gel electrophoresis to generate haemolymph polypeptide maps from mature locust males. Under the given conditions we identified 238 polypeptide spots by their molecular weight and isoelectrical point. Isolated and crowded males from the Mainz strain, all originating from crowded ancesters, differed in 20 spots: three were solitary-specific and 17 crowded-specific. Field catches of solitary and gregarious S. gregaria in Mauritania revealed that those males showed the…
