This work highlights the case of Latvian women volunteers of the Red Army who worked and fought on the eastern fronts of World War II. An estimated 70,000–85,000 Latvians served in the Red Army, some as conscripts, others as volunteers. At least several hundred of those who volunteered were women. How are Latvian women volunteers of the Red Army represented and remembered in Soviet and post-Soviet historical accounts of World War II? Why have they not been remembered in most historical accounts of this period? How are ethnicity, gender, and associated social roles implicated in their historical marginality? 2021. gada 10. martā jau otro reizi Latvijas Universitātes 79. starptautiskajā zinātniskajā konferencē organizēta vēstures un arheoloģijas doktorantu sekcija. Iekļaujoties kopējā tēmā “Sabiedrības un indivīda veselība cauri laikam: izpētes iespējas un problemātika vēstures un arheoloģijas zinātnē”, sekcijā pieteica dalību vienpadsmit doktoranti un grāda pretendenti, savukārt atslēgas referātu pieteica LU LVI arheoloģijas pārstāvji. Referātos aplūkoti gan cilvēku diētas paradumi, gan mentālā veselība, dažādas slimības kā arī medicīnas iestāžu darbība no aizvēstures līdz pat 20. gadsimtam.

This paper will focus on the LL of Daugavpils from a diachronic point of view in order to describe the usage of the Latvian language in the public space since the middle of the 19th century until today, as well as the socio-economic and political factors which influence the language situation. The authors of the article have gathered literary works of poets and writers – former students of Riga Polytechnicum (RP) and Riga Polytechnic institute (RPI), and have characterized them. Several Latvian and foreign literary workers have studied at the institute. Only six of them – Alfrēds Andersons, Jānis Bergs, Rihards Ērglis, Ernests Eferts, Jānis Miķelsons and Arvīds Valdmanis – received diplomas in engineering after graduating from Departments of Engineering, Commerce and Agriculture. A. Valdmanis has written course books and literary works.
