Interspecific interactions have several evolutionary consequences: for example, two species may compete, hybridize, or behave aggressively towards each other, or there may be predator–prey interactions. One consequence of these interactions is the evolution of premating reproductive isolation between the two species. The most obvious interspecific interaction, which has an effect on reproductive isolation, is the avoidance of hybridization, or, in other words, the reinforcement process. This dissertation consists of introduction chapter and five empirical studies on European intellectual property rights institutions. Chapters 2, 3 and 4 are micro-level studies and the perspective shifts to macro-level in Chapters 5 and 6. Chapters 2, 3, 5 and 6 analyze two-tiered patent systems and Chapter 4 focuses on design rights. Chapter 2 analyzes the choice between patent and utility model protection among German firms. The results indicate that larger firms are more likely to use both protection methods and that a short life cycle of products and services is associated with an increased likelihood to use utility models. Management Practices and Allocation of Employment: Evidence from Finnish Manufacturing

We analyse variation in the management practices across countries and across regions within a country. For cross-country comparisons we use the Finnish Management and Organizational Practices Survey (FMOP) to calculate a management score for Finnish manufacturing that is compared to corresponding measures obtained from similar data in the US and Germany. Scores measured by unweighted averages of the establishments in these countries show that Finland is only slightly behind the US and on par with those of Germany. Eurooppalaisen ay-liikkeen mukaan EU on asettanut kilpailukyvyn tärkeimmäksi arvokseen ja jättänyt työntekijät unhoon. A novel Pd(II) double complex, [Pd(BAPP)][PdCl4], containing the 1,4-bis(3-aminopropyl)piperazine (BAPP) ligand is investigated. X-ray crystallography of a single crystal confirmed the structure of the [Pd(BAPP)][PdCl4] complex. The spectroscopic behavior was also elucidated using elemental analysis, nuclear magnetic resonance and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, and mass spectrometry. The antimicrobial susceptibility of the [Pd(BAPP)][PdCl4] complex against all tested microbial strains was lower than that of the BAPP ligand except for C. albicans. The cytotoxic impacts of the BAPP ligand and its [Pd(BAPP)][PdCl4] complex were evaluated in vitro for HepG2, CaCo-2 and MCF7 cell lines…
Synthesis, characterization, crystal structures and biological screening of 4-amino quinazoline sulfonamide derivatives

Three quinazolin-4-ylamino derivatives containing phenylbenzenesulfonamides (7a-7c) were synthesized by reacting (E)-N'-(2-cyanophenyl)-N,N-dimethyl formamidine (6) with different 4- amino-N-(phenyl)benzenesulfonamides (4a-4c) and characterized by different techniques such as HRMS, IR, 1H NMR and 13C NMR spectroscopy. The structural properties were further examined by single crystal X-ray diffraction method. The X-ray data shows that compounds 7a and 7c contain two molecules and 7b contains one molecule in the asymmetric unit. Neveiksmīga gaismekļa dizaina apgaismojums rada gaismas piesārņojumu, kas apdraud cilvēku un ekosistēmas stāvokli. Bakalaura darba mērķis ir novērtēt antropogēnā apgaismojuma līmeni un noteikt gaismas piesārņojuma avotus Vērmanes dārzā diennakts tumšajā periodā. Veicot apsekojumus pētītajā teritorijā, kā arī iegūtos rezultātus interpretējot telpiskā griezumā, tika secināts, ka Vērmanes dārza esošo gaismekļu dizains veicina gaismas piesārņojumu, lai gan parka teritorijā atsevišķās vietās apgaismojuma līmenis nav pietiekošs. Piedāvājot pusaudžiem un citiem iedzīvotājiem iespēju radošā veidā paust viedokli par savu dzīves vietu, pilsēta iegūst labu esošās situācijas pārskatu un redzējumu par pusaudžiem draudzīgas publiskās ārtelpas attīstību. Pētījumā veikta pusaudžu iesaistes metodoloģijas iestrāde, un veikta tās pielietošana uz Ziepniekkalna apkaimes piemēra. Veidotas rekomendācijas veiksmīgas jauniešu līdzdalības nodrošināšanai un padomi pusaudžiem draudzīgas publiskās ārtelpas attīstībai Ziepniekkalna apkaimē.
