A new marketing mix model to rescue the hospitality industry: Evidence from Egypt after the Arab Spring

2017

After January 25th 2011 Egypt witnessed political, economic and social instability leading to drastic consequences in the hospitality and tourism industry. Thus unstable situation reflected on the deteriorated occupancy percentages that led to declined profit margins, higher employee layoffs and degraded quality of product and services. The objectives of this research is to examine how the Egyptian hospitality properties manage this dilemma through their marketing practices, and to propose a new marketing mix model that adds new layers of depth to the traditional marketing mix model. A methodological framework was designed to help in the assessment process of management practices pertaining…

Next-Generation Sequencing-Based RiboMethSeq  Protocol for Analysis of tRNA 2'-O-Methylation.

2016

Analysis of RNA modifications by traditional physico-chemical approaches is labor  intensive,  requires  substantial  amounts  of  input  material  and  only  allows  site-by-site  measurements.  The  recent  development  of  qualitative  and  quantitative  approaches  based  on   next-generation sequencing (NGS) opens new perspectives for the analysis of various cellular RNA  species.  The  Illumina  sequencing-based  RiboMethSeq  protocol  was  initially  developed  and  successfully applied for mapping of ribosomal RNA (rRNA) 2'-O-methylations. This method also  gives excellent results in the quantitative analysis of rRNA modifications in different species and  under varying growth condi…

Stable expression in HEK-293 cells of the rat alpha3/beta4 subtype of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor.

1996

The alpha3/beta4 subtype of neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) was stably expressed in human embryonic kidney (HEK) 293 cells that co-expressed a voltage-gated Ca2+ channel. alpha3/beta4-nAChR-expressing clones were identified using the fura-2 Ca2+ imaging technique, and were further characterised by single-cell and whole-cell patch-clamp studies. Acetylcholine (ACh) induced fast activating currents which showed desensitisation and inward rectification. The conductance of the ACh-activated channel was 29 pS. The order of potency of the nicotinic agonists tested was cytisine approximately = nicotine > acetylcholine. The EC50 value for ACh was 145 microM; the Hill coefficient w…

A second pathway of activation of the Torpedo acetylcholine receptor channel

1991

We have studied the interaction of the reversible acetylcholine esterase inhibitor (-)physostigmine (D-eserine) with the nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (nAChR) from Torpedo marmorata electric tissue by means of ligand-induced ion flux into nAChR-rich membrane vesicles and of equilibrium binding. We find that (-) physostigmine induces cation flux (and also binds to the receptor) even in the presence of saturating concentrations of antagonists of acetylcholine, such as D-tubocurarine, alpha-bungarotoxin or antibody WF6. The direct action on the acetylcholine receptor is not affected by removal of the methylcarbamate function from the drug and thus is not due to carbamylation of the receptor…

Dual Substituent Parameter Modeling of Theoretical, NMR and IR Spectral Data of 5-Substituted Indole-2,3-diones

2002

Correlations of AM1 and PM3 theoretical data, 13C-NMR substituent chemical shifts (13C-SCS) and IR carbonyl group wave numbers [ν(C3â•ÂO)] were studied using dual substituent parameter (DSP) models for 5-substituted indole-2,3-diones. For the C7 atom a reverse substituent effect attributed to extended À-polarization was observed. On the other hand, the DSP approaches for the C3 atom showed normal substituent effects with some contribution of reverse effect supported strongly by 13C-SCS correlations. In the ν(C3â•ÂO) and p(C3â•ÂO) DSP correlations the field effect contribution predominates over the resonance effect, which justifies the using of earlier suggested vibrational cou…

Integrated marketing communication as a business management tool in the context of sustainable development

2018

AbstractThe problem of nowadays is that consumers lack information on food products, their composition and quality, nutritional value, packaging, its impact on the human health and environment, reuse and recycling possibilities, etc. Integrated marketing communications (IMC) as a business management tool may not only draw the consumers’ attention and incite a purchase, but also provide information and serve as a facilitator of consumers’ knowledge and competence on products, their nutritional value, use and utilisation. The goal of the research is to assess the impact of IMC for sustainability upon demand at Latvian food retail chains and the impact of the use of IMC for sustainability upon…

The role of public awareness campaigns in sustainable development

2017

The concept of sustainable development has been present in political discourse for many years. Striving to achieve it has become a worldwide priority. Success in this field depends not only on the right government policies. It is also a matter of society engagement. There are different direct and indirect tools intended to promote and reinforce positive changes in social attitudes. Among the most important ones are public awareness campaigns. The aim of the article is to present the ways in which they can contribute to sustainable development and how their positive impact should be properly assessed.

Attraction factors of shopping centers: Effects of design and eco-natural environment on intention to visit

2017

Purpose People visit malls not only to buy a product they need but also to enjoy the atmosphere or environment of the shopping center. Based on design and eco-natural environment, the purpose of this paper is to analyze the attraction factors of shopping centers. Design/methodology/approach The sample comprised 449 consumers from 25 different shopping centers in Bogota. The structural equation model (AMOS) enables the authors to discuss the influence of the design of green and natural spaces in the commercial management of shopping centers, given its positive and significant effect on the intention to visit. Findings Shopping centers are, by definition, spaces with a high level of design o…
