Predicting routes is a critical enabler for many new location-based applications and services, such as warning drivers about congestion- or accident-risky areas. Hybrid vehicles can also utilize the route prediction for optimizing their charging and discharging phases. Online anomaly detection using dimensionality reduction techniques for HTTP log analysis

Modern web services face an increasing number of new threats. Logs are collected from almost all web servers, and for this reason analyzing them is beneficial when trying to prevent intrusions. Intrusive behavior often differs from the normal web traffic. This paper proposes a framework to find abnormal behavior from these logs. We compare random projection, principal component analysis and diffusion map for anomaly detection. In addition, the framework has online capabilities. The first two methods have intuitive extensions while diffusion map uses the Nyström extension. This fast out-of-sample extension enables real-time analysis of web server traffic. They obtained state-of-the-art performances by estimating a preference ranking of items for each user rather than estimating the absolute ratings on unrated items (as conventional rating-oriented CF algorithms do). Genome size evolution in macroparasites.

Reduction in genome size has been associated not only with a parasitic lifestyle in intracellular microparasites but also in some macroparasitic insects and nematodes. We collected the available data on genome size for flatworms, annelids, nematodes and arthropods, compared those with available data for the phylogenetically closest free-living taxa and found evidence of smaller genome sizes for parasites in six of nine comparisons. Our results suggest that despite great differences in evolutionary history and life cycles, parasitism as a lifestyle promotes convergent genome size reduction in macroparasites. In this paper we argue that, even allowing for benevolent policy-makers, informational asymmetries can lead to a misallocation of public support for R&D, hence government policy failure, with the potential to exacerbate preexisting market failures. This article examines how urban youth in the poorest neighbourhoods of Dar es Salaam negotiate the terms of transactional intimacy, that is, heterosexual relations in which men are expected to provide for women materially. Using the concept of ‘affect’, I argue that this negotiation involves different levels of male providership, as well as moral values attached to notions of ‘true love’ and the Swahili concept of tamaa. AbstractIn 1959, UNESCO published a film catalogue titled Orient. A Survey of Films Produced in Countries of Arab and Asian Culture to familiarise Western audiences with Eastern cultures. Out of the 139 feature films included in the catalogue, 37 were Japanese. Through a discussion of the descriptions of the films provided in the catalogue, this article analyses Japan’s post-war cultural diplomacy in the context of the Orient project. Realizing the social acceptance of community renewable energy: A process-outcome analysis of stakeholder influence

This study shows how stakeholders influence the development of community renewable energy (CRE) schemes and how they are influenced by their outcome. It relies on information collected during 41 structured interviews with local people involved in CRE initiatives in seven regions of Europe. The interviews were thematically analyzed to identify different types of stakeholder influence. The findings show that stakeholder influence on CRE schemes take place at three distinct levels: macro, intercommunity and intracommunity.
