Highly Loaded Semipermeable Nanocapsules for Magnetic Resonance Imaging.

2017

Magnetic resonance imaging has become an essential tool in medicine for the investigation of physiological processes. The key issues related to contrast agents, i.e., substances that are injected in the body for imaging, are the efficient enhancement of contrast, their low toxicity, and their defined biodistribution. Polyurea nanocapsules containing the gadolinium complex Gadobutrol as a contrast agent in high local concentration and high relaxivity up to 40 s-1 mmol-1 L are described. A high concentration of the contrast agent inside the nanocapsules can be ensured by increasing the crystallinity in the shell of the nanocapsules. Nanocapsules from aliphatic polyurea are found to display hi…

Minor changes in the macrocyclic ligands but major consequences on the efficiency of gold nanoparticles designed for radiosensitization

2016

International audience; Many studies have been devoted to adapting the design of gold nanoparticles to efficiently exploit their promising capability to enhance the effects of radiotherapy. In particular, the addition of magnetic resonance imaging modality constitutes an attractive strategy for enhancing the selectivity of radiotherapy since it allows the determination of the most suited delay between the injection of nanoparticles and irradiation. This requires the functionalization of the gold core by an organic shell composed of thiolated gadolinium chelates. The risk of nephrogenic systemic fibrosis induced by the release of gadolinium ions should encourage the use of macrocyclic chelat…

Evaluation of proton MR spectroscopy at 3 Tesla without endorectal coil in patients with a localized prostate cancer treated with exclusive radiother…

2011

Prostate cancer is the most frequent tumour affecting the male population. When the prostate is not removed and is treated with radiation therapy, PSA slowly decreases over time to reach its nadir, even sometimes 18 to 24 months after the completion of radiation therapy without combined androgen suppression therapy. When combined with hormones, PSA falls abruptely with no possibility to perceive the impact of either hormones or radiation effects on PSA.The optimal value of PSA that should be reached after radiation therapy (nadir) and time to this nadir are still unclear.Even when a satisfactory value of the PSA nadir is reached, on-going variations of the PSA and its “bounce” effects, whic…

Intraoral onlay block bone grafts versus cortical tenting technique on alveolar ridge augmentations: a systematic review

2021

To review systematically the bone gain and superficial resorption rate of the onlay block bone grafts versus the cortical tenting technique, as well as secondarily study the postoperative complications, implant survival and success rates, and peri-implant marginal bone loss. Following the recommended methods for systematic reviews and meta-analyses (PRISMA), an electronic search was performed in the PubMed (MEDLINE), EMBASE and the Cochrane Library of the Cochrane Collaboration (CENTRAL) databases to identify all relevant articles published up to March 2021 on onlay block bone grafts and cortical tenting technique. Eighteen papers complied with the inclusion criteria. In onlay grafts, the v…

Glenoid bone loss in anterior shoulder dislocation: a multicentric study to assess the most reliable imaging method

2022

Purpose: The aim of this multicentric study was to assess which imaging method has the best inter-reader agreement for glenoid bone loss quantification in anterior shoulder instability. A further aim was to calculate the inter-method agreement comparing bilateral CT with unilateral CT and MR arthrography (MRA) with CT measurements. Finally, calculations were carried out to find the least time-consuming method. Method: A retrospective evaluation was performed by 9 readers (or pairs of readers) on a consecutive series of 110 patients with MRA and bilateral shoulder CT. Each reader was asked to calculate the glenoid bone loss of all patients using the following methods: best fit circle area on…

An efficient functional magnetic resonance imaging data reduction strategy using neighborhood preserving embedding algorithm

2021

High dimensionality data have become common in neuroimaging fields, especially group-level functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) datasets. fMRI connectivity analysis is a widely used, powerful technique for studying functional brain networks to probe underlying mechanisms of brain function and neuropsychological disorders. However, data-driven technique like independent components analysis (ICA), can yield unstable and inconsistent results, confounding the true effects of interest and hindering the understanding of brain functionality and connectivity. A key contributing factor to this instability is the information loss that occurs during fMRI data reduction. Data reduction of high …

Discovering hidden brain network responses to naturalistic stimuli via tensor component analysis of multi-subject fMRI data

2021

The study of brain network interactions during naturalistic stimuli facilitates a deeper understanding of human brain function. To estimate large-scale brain networks evoked with naturalistic stimuli, a tensor component analysis (TCA) based framework was used to characterize shared spatio-temporal patterns across subjects in a purely data-driven manner. In this framework, a third-order tensor is constructed from the timeseries extracted from all brain regions from a given parcellation, for all participants, with modes of the tensor corresponding to spatial distribution, time series and participants. TCA then reveals spatially and temporally shared components, i.e., evoked networks with the …

Mutual Information Analysis of Brain-Body Interactions during different Levels of Mental stress

2019

In this work, we analyze brain-heart interactions during different mental states computing mutual information (MI) between the dynamic activity of different physiological systems. In 18 healthy subjects monitored in a relaxed resting state and during a mental arithmetic and a serious game task, multichannel EEG, one lead ECG, respiration and blood volume pulse were collected via wireless non-invasive biosensors. From these signals, synchronous 300-second time series were extracted measuring brain activity via the δ, θ, α, and β EEG power, and activity of the body district via the ECG R-R interval η, the respiratory amplitude ϱ and the pulse arrival time π. MI was computed using a linear est…

Assessment of Functional Connectome in End-Stage Organ Disease Patients After Life-Threatening Surgery

2020

Purpose The purpose of this study was to assess the organization of intrinsic functional brain networks (functional connectome) in neurologically asymptomatic patients with end-stage organ disease who had undergone major surgery for life-threating conditions and compare it to a control group. Materials and Methods Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rest-fMRI) was performed in 10 adult, post-operative patients with end-stage organ disease. The patients (7 men, 3 women, mean age 57.9 ± 7.4 years) had undergone: n=4 coronary artery bypass graft for heart failure, n=2 orthotopic liver transplantation for non-alcoholic cirrhotic liver failure, n=3 mitral valve repair for heart …
