A critical assessment of methods for the determination of the shear stress amplitude in multiaxial fatigue criteria belonging to critical plane class

2015

Abstract Multiaxial high cycle fatigue criteria based on the critical plane approach necessitate unambiguous definitions of the amplitude and mean value of the shear stress (τa and τm) acting on the material planes. Four of the existing definitions relate the values of τa and τm to a geometrical element of the curve described by the tip of the shear stress vector (curve Ψ), respectively, the radius of the Minimum Circumscribed Circle, the Longest Chord, the Longest Projection, the diagonal of the Maximum Rectangular Hull (MRH). In this paper a critical assessment of the above definitions is proposed, focusing on that based on the concept of MRH, which is the most recently developed. The mai…

Fauna Europaea: Hymenoptera - Apocrita (excl. Ichneumonoidea)

2015

Fauna Europaea provides a public web-service with an index of scientific names (including important synonyms) of all living European land and freshwater animals, their geographical distribution at country level (up to the Urals, excluding the Caucasus region), and some additional information. The Fauna Europaea project covers about 230,000 taxonomic names, including 130,000 accepted species and 14,000 accepted subspecies. This represents a huge effort by more than 400 contributing specialists throughout Europe and is a unique (standard) reference suitable for many users in science, government, industry, nature conservation and education. Hymenoptera is one of the four largest orders of inse…

Achalasie bei zirkumskripter Sklerodermie

2006

HISTORY: A 38-year-old man had been suffering from circumscribed scleroderma for 12 years. Dysphagia had been diagnosed 5 years ago and for the last 2 years he had retrosternal dysphagia for solid and liquid food. His symptoms had increased markedly 6 months before presenting at our hospital and the patient had lost 15 kg of weight. 2 months ago, a percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) had been inserted at another hospital. INVESTIGATIONS: The patient presented in a reduced general and nutritional state. The routine laboratory tests and tumor markers were within normal range. Endoscopy showed a moderately dilated esophagus with food remnants. It was not possible to pass the cardia witho…

Dinotrema cavernicola sp. n. (Hymenoptera, Braconidae, Alysiinae), a new species of the genus Dinotrema Foerster from caves of Spain

2014

Dinotrema cavernicola sp. n. was collected in two caves in Spain. This is the first Dinotrema species known to occur in caves. This new species is described and compared to D. affine (Fischer, 1973) and D. collybiae Munk & Peris-Felipo, 2014, species sharing a mid-longitudinal carina on the propodeum.

Aspilota-group (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Alysiinae) diversity in Mediterranean Natural Parks of Spain

2014

This work analyses the biodiversity of the Aspilota-group (Hymenoptera: Braconidae: Alysiinae) in three Mediterranean Natural parks: Natural Park of La Font Roja, Natural Park of Las Lagunas de la Mata-Torrevieja and Natural Park of La Tinença de Benifassà. Samples were carried out from April 2004 to December 2007. In total, 822 specimens, belonging to 52 species, were collected. Alpha, beta and gamma diversities were analysed, and the Tinença Park was proven to have higher diversity than the Font Roja and Torrevieja. Also, the structure of the Aspilota-group community was analysed.

BB0172, a Borrelia burgdorferi Outer Membrane Protein That Binds Integrin Α3Β1

2013

ABSTRACT Lyme disease is a multisystemic disorder caused by Borrelia burgdorferi infection. Upon infection, some B. burgdorferi genes are upregulated, including members of the microbial surface components recognizing adhesive matrix molecule (MSCRAMM) protein family, which facilitate B. burgdorferi adherence to extracellular matrix components of the host. Comparative genome analysis has revealed a new family of B. burgdorferi proteins containing the von Willebrand factor A (vWFA) domain. In the present study, we characterized the expression and membrane association of the vWFA domain-containing protein BB0172 by using in vitro transcription/translation systems in the presence of microsomal …

Effect of ageing on the morphology and creep and recovery of polymer-modified bitumens

2018

Polymer additives are used to improve the properties of road bitumens including their oxidative resistance. However, their usage as anti-oxidative materials remains relatively unclear. This study aims to investigate the changes in the morphology and the rheological response of polymer modified bitumens used in road pavement construction caused by ageing. An elastomer (radial styrene butadiene styrene, SBS) and a plastomer (ethyl vinyl acetate, EVA) polymer were mixed with one base bitumen at three polymer concentrations. The bitumens were RTFO and PAV aged. The morphology of the bitumens was captured by fluorescence microscopy while the rheological properties were measured by means of the m…

Acute Type Refinements of Tetrahedral Partitions of Polyhedral Domains

2001

We present a new technique to perform refinements on acute type tetrahedral partitions of a polyhedral domain, provided that the center of the circumscribed sphere around each tetrahedron belongs to the tetrahedron. The resulting family of partitions is of acute type; thus, all the tetrahedra satisfy the maximum angle condition. Both these properties are highly desirable in finite element analysis.

Ultrametricity property of energy landscapes of multidisperse packing problems

2009

We consider the problem of finding the densest closed packing of hard disks with proposed different radii in a circular environment, such that the radius of the circumcircle is minimal. The subspace of the quasioptimum configurations of this problem exhibits the property of ultrametricity.

Packing a multidisperse system of hard disks in a circular environment.

2008

We consider the problem of finding the densest closed packing of hard disks with proposed different radii in a circular environment, such that the radius of the circumcircle is minimal. With our approach, we are able to find denser packings for various problem instances than known from the literature. Both for the dynamics of the simulation and for the optimum values of the radii of the circumcircles, we find various scaling laws.
