Magnifying the ordinary: genre mixture and humour in the TV series 'Chuck'

Chuck is an American television series about a "normal" guy who works at the Buy More. His life changes dramatically when he becomes the most important person for the USA intelligence. This gives rise to a conflict between civilian and spy life. The analysis involves a multimodal account (cf. Lorenzo-Dus 2009) of the aesthetics (Cardwell 2005) of the second season that illustrates how the series establishes a parallelism between Chuck's life as a spy and that of his colleagues at the Buy More. Digital storytelling for ESP in Higher Education.

This paper explores a project related to digital storytelling carried out at the Universitat Politècnica de València, in Spain, with the students of an English for Specific Purposes course devoted to the development of oral and written English skills. Several activities were designed for the project: surveys, a WebQuest, an online discussion forum, a log, oral presentations and peer assessment activities. The overall results were very positive for both teachers and students.
Lexical classes and constructions: an analysis of the constructional realization of entity-specific change-of-state English verbs

This study analyzes a so far neglected part of the constructional behavior of Levin's (1993) entity-specific change-of-state verbs. More specifically, we discuss the integration of verbs from this lexical class into the intransitive-resultative construction. We base our analysis on the Lexical Constructional Model or LCM (Ruiz de Mendoza and Mairal 2008, 2011; Mairal and Ruiz de Mendoza 2009; Ruiz de Mendoza 2013). It will be shown that the internal and external constraints postulated by the LCM constitute useful explanatory and analytical tools for the fusion processes between these verbs and the intransitive-resultative construction. This study aims to examine the feasibility of a number of technical solutions implemented in a web-based system designed for the creation and management of online language exams within PAULEX Universitas, a project for the development of an online platform to design, deliver and assess the foreign language exam within the Spanish national University Entrance Examination. 'Apparently, women don't know how to operate doors': a corpus-based analysis of women stereotypes in the tv series 3rd Rock from the Sun

This paper explores how women stereotypes are discursively evaluated in the TV sitcom 3 rd Rock from the Sun by paying attention to the societal, cultural and ideological values they convey. Following recent trends for the study of television series (Bednarek, 2010), the analysis is both qualitative and quantitative, adopting a Corpus- Assisted Discourse Analysis approach (Baker, 2006; Partington, 2004). The contextualised analysis of words that refer to women confirms that the sitcom writers of 3 rd Rock from the Sun purposefully resort to stereotyping as a verbal strategy to create humour while conveying negative attitudes towards women.

Les émissions anthropiques de gaz à effet de serre sont le principal moteur du changement climatique. Le plan Climat, issu de la COP 21 tenue à Paris en 2015, vise à atteindre la neutralité carbone à l'horizon 2050. Pour atteindre cette neutralité carbone, les gaz à effet de serre doivent d'abord être stabilisés, puis fortement réduits au cours du siècle prochain. Dans cette dynamique, l'initiative « 4 pour 1000 » fixe comme objectif d'atteindre un taux de croissance annuel du stock de carbone dans les sols de 0,4% par an.
