Synthesis, crystal structures and magnetic properties of a P-stereogenic ortho-(4-amino-tempo)phosphinic amide radical and its CuII complex
2021
The synthesis of phosphinic amides containing one 4-amino-TEMPO substituent at the ortho position has been achieved through copper(I) catalyzed cross-coupling reactions of ortho-iodophosphinic amides with 4-amino-TEMPO. The method has been extended to the preparation of the first example of a P-stereogenic ortho-(4-amino-tempo)phosphinic amide radical 10. The reaction of 10 with Cu(hfac)2 afforded the P-stereogenic CuII complex 19. The crystal structure of both chiral compounds is reported. The molecular structure of 10 consists of a supramolecular zig-zag chain formed by intermolecular hydrogen bonds between the NH group of the phosphinic amide moiety and the nitroxide oxygen atom. In comp…
Repetitive‐Synthesis of Bulky Dendrimers – A Reversibly Photoactive Dendrimer with Six Azobenzene Side Chains
1993
Dendrimers with bulky repeating units containing up to 43 benzene rings (in 9) have been obtained by using a repetitive divergent synthetic strategy (three generations). The new functional dendrimer 13 containing six azobenzene units at the periphery was synthesized allowing a reversible switching of the shape and size of the molecule upon irradiation. An X-ray structure analysis of the dendritic molecule 3a shows the inclusion of acetonitrile.
Highly Loaded Multi-Walled Carbon Nanotubes Non-Covalently Modified with a Bis-Imidazolium Salt and their Use as Catalyst Supports
2016
The surfaces of multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) were non-covalently modified using two bis-imidazolium dibromide derivatives having phenyl or pyrene groups. Due to the presence of the two pyrene groups the bis(pyren-1-ylmethylimidazolium) dibromide derivative was immobilised at a loading of about 15-16 wt %, whereas only <3 wt % of the phenyl derivative was immobilised. The presence of the two imidazolium cations helped the immobilisation of tetrachloropalladate ions after exchange with bromide ions. Tetrachloropalladate was used as pre-catalyst in several Suzuki-Miyaura carbon-carbon cross-coupling reactions in water or water/ethanol at 50 °C in only 0.1 mol % and compared with the …
Interfacial Self-Assembly of Water-Soluble Cationic Porphyrins for the Reduction of Oxygen to Water
2012
Meet at the border: Assembly of the water-soluble cobalt tetrakis(N-methylpyridinium-4-yl)porphyrin [CoTMPyP]4+ at soft interfaces is enhanced and stabilized by its interfacial interaction with the lipophilic anion (C6F5)4B−. The supramolecular structure thus formed (see picture) provides excellent catalytic activity in the four-electron reduction of oxygen.
Tetraurea calix[4]arenes with sulfur functions: synthesis, dimerization to capsules, and self-assembly on gold.
2007
Various calix[4]arene derivatives, fixed in the cone conformation by decylether groups and functionalized at their wide rim by urea residues, were synthesized. In two compounds (4f,g) sulfur functions were attached to the urea groups via different spacers in order to allow binding to metal surfaces. While they exist as single molecules in polar solvents, tetraurea calix[4]arenes of this type (4) combine to form dimeric capsules in aprotic, apolar solvents. A solvent molecule is usually included in such a capsule, if no guest with a higher affinity is present. In the presence of an equimolar amount of the tetratosylurea 5, the exclusive formation of heterodimers, consisting of one molecule o…
Versatile supramolecular self-assembly. Part I. Network formation and magnetic behaviour of the alkaline salts of the bis(malonate)cuprate(ii) anion
2006
Five malonate-containing copper(II) compounds of formula {[A(H2O)n]2 [Cu(mal)2(H2O)m]} [A = Li (1), Na (2), K (3), Rb (4) and Cs (5); H2mal = malonic acid] have been synthetized and characterized by X-ray diffraction. The structure of these compounds consists of bis(malonate)cuprate(II) anions and alkaline cations that are held together by means of carboxylate bridges and water molecules leading to 3D networks. A study of the self-assembling of the bis(malonate)cuprate(II) and the alkaline cations is carried out, the size of the alkaline metal ion playing an important role in the control of the resulting malonate-bridged copper(II) structure. A regular alternation of layers of anionic malon…
A molecular dynamics study of structure, stability and fragmentation patterns of sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate positively charged aggregates…
2011
Positively charged supramolecular aggregates formed in vacuo by n AOTNa (sodium bis(2-ethylhexyl)sulfosuccinate) molecules and n(c) additional sodium ions, i.e. [AOT(n)Na(n+n(c))](n(c)), have been investigated by molecular dynamics (MD) simulations for n = 1-20 and n(c) = 0-5. Statistical analysis of physical quantities like gyration radii, atomic B-factors and moment of inertia tensors provides detailed information on their structural and dynamical properties. Even for n(c) = 5, all stable aggregates show a reverse micelle-like structure with an internal solid-like core including sodium counterions and surfactant polar heads surrounded by an external layer consisting of the surfactant alky…
Secoiridoids and Iridoids from Morinda asteroscepa
2020
The new 2,3-secoiridoids morisecoiridoic acids A (1) and B (2), the new iridoid 8-acetoxyepishanzilactone (3), and four additional known iridoids (4–7) were isolated from the leaf and stem bark methanol extracts of Morinda asteroscepa using chromatographic methods. The structure of shanzilactone (4) was revised. The purified metabolites were identified using NMR spectroscopic and mass spectrometric techniques, with the absolute configuration of 1 having been established by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis. The crude leaf extract (10 μg/mL) and compounds 1–3 and 5 (10 μM) showed mild antiplasmodial activities against the chloroquine-sensitive malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum (…
Synthesis and X-ray structure of amide-based macrocycles, catenanes and pretzelane
2001
The syntheses and crystal structure studies of amide-based catenanes derived from m-phenylene diacrylic acid and 5-acetoxy isophthalic acid (17% and 3% yield of 4a and 4b resp.) and octalactam macrocycles (21% yield of 3) are described. Hydrogen bonding patterns play a key role in the formation of the different conformations of octalactam 3. The crystal structures of 3 reveal a number of hydrogen-bonding interactions between the macrocycle and two different solvent molecules, which are presumably responsible for the different conformations. Furthermore, we report the X-ray structure of a catenane, which was converted into a “pretzelane” by bridging two phenolic hydroxy groups with a p-xylyl…
Chemical composition of the essential oil from the aerial parts of Ononis reclinata L. (Fabaceae) grown wild in Sicily
2016
In the present study, the chemical composition of the essential oil from aerial parts of Ononis reclinata L., a species not previously investigated, collected in Sicily was evaluated by GC and Gas chromatography-Mass spectrometry. The main components of O. reclinata were menthone (43.6%), isopimpinellin (38.4%) and pulegone (11.2%). The comparison with other studied oils of genus Ononis showed a peculiar and characteristic profile.
