Alix protein is substrate of Ozz-E3 ligase and modulates actin remodeling in skeletal muscle

2012

Alix/AIP1 is a multifunctional adaptor protein that participates in basic cellular processes, including membrane trafficking and actin cytoskeleton assembly, by binding selectively to a variety of partner proteins. However, the mechanisms regulating Alix turnover, subcellular distribution, and function in muscle cells are unknown. We now report that Alix is expressed in skeletal muscle throughout myogenic differentiation. In myotubes, a specific pool of Alix colocalizes with Ozz, the substrate-binding component of the muscle-specific ubiquitin ligase complex Ozz-E3. We found that interaction of the two endogenous proteins in the differentiated muscle fibers changes Alix conformation and pro…

Enzymatically modified, nonoxidized LDL induces selective adhesion and transmigration of monocytes and T-lymphocytes through human endothelial cell m…

1999

Abstract —Circulating monocytes and T lymphocytes extravasate through the endothelium at sites of developing atheromatous lesions, where they tend to accumulate and mediate the progression of the disease. We have previously demonstrated the presence of an enzymatically degraded, nonoxidized form of LDL (E-LDL) in early human fatty streaks, which possesses major biological properties of an atherogenic lipoprotein. The effects of E-LDL on human endothelial cells have now been studied with respect to adhesion and transmigration of monocytes and T lymphocytes. E-LDL induced a rapid and dose-dependent selective adhesion of monocytes and T lymphocytes to endothelial cell monolayers within 30 min…

Apigenin‐induced nitric oxide production involves calcium‐activated potassium channels and is responsible for antiangiogenic effects

2007

Summary. Background: The dietary flavonoid apigenin (Api) has been demonstrated to exert multiple beneficial effects upon the vascular endothelium. The aim of this study was to examine whether Ca2+-activated K+ channels (KCa) are involved in endothelial nitric oxide (NO) production and antiangiogenic effects. Methods: Endothelial NO generation was monitored using a cyclic guanosine monophosphate radioimmunoassay. KCa activity and changes of the intracellular Ca2+ concentration [Ca2+]i were analyzed using the fluorescent dyes bis-barbituric acid oxonol, potassium-binding benzofuran isophthalate, and fluo-3. The endothelial angiogenic parameters measured were cell proliferation, [3H]-thymidine…

Svoboda dviženiâ tovarov v ramkah Evrazijskogo èkonomičeskogo soûza i Evropejskogo soûza : pravovoj analiz

2016

W artykule omówiono prawne aspekty swobody przepływu towarów w Unii Euroazjatyckiej i Unii Europejskiej. W tym względzie przeanalizowano podobieństwa i różnice w zakresie klasyfikacji i definicji towarów obu organizacji. Oprócz tego określono podobieństwa i różnice w odniesieniu do unii celnej i wspólnego rynku obu organizacji, a także w zakresie ograniczeń swobody przepływu unijnych i euroazjatyckich towarów. Autor przedstawił też ewentualne scenariusze w zakresie ustanowienia nowych regulacji prawnych dotyczących wymiany handlowej pomiędzy EAUG i UE

Sustainable Food vs. Unsustainable Politics in the City of Palermo: The Case of an Organic Farmers' Market

2011

The island of Sicily, Italy, and its main city, Palermo, appear an ideal scenario for sustainable food provisioning: the former being the first region in Italy for organically cultivated land, the latter Italy's fifth largest city. This article explores ideals and practices of sustainable urban food systems through an example of environmental consumer activism in Palermo. It does this by narrating the story of an organic farmers' market created by citizens and producers. The article reflects critically on understandings of food-related ‘sustainability’ held by the actors involved, showing the difficulties of operationalizing the concept for qualitative, socio-cultural research. It also high…

PRATIQUES INFO-COMMUNICATIONNELLES ET MOBILISATION SOCIALE À L'ÈRE D'INTERNET : LE CAS DE L'ITALIE

2013

Individual habitat transitions of Atlantic herring Clupea harengus in a human-modified coastal system

2015

Published version of an article from the journal: Marine Ecology Progress Series. Also available from Inter Research. Http://dx.doi.org/10.3354/meps11103 Pelagic marine fish often display highly dynamic migration patterns. However, such movement behaviour is usually studied at the population or school level, while less is known about individual movement characteristics and habitat transitions. During March 2012 to June 2013, we used acoustic tags and moored receivers to monitor the behaviour of Atlantic herring Clupea harengus L. (N = 47) throughout a range of habitats on the Skagerrak coast in southern Norway. Five of the tagged herring entered a former lake transformed into an artificial …

Effects of acute b-alanine supplementation on countermovement jump performance after a 4x400 m fatigue protocol: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-…

2022

This study aimed to examine the effect of acute beta-alanine (β-alanine) supplementation on jump performance after a strenuous fatigue protocol. Twelve healthy young men (age 21.4±0.5 years, body height 180.2±5.8 cm, body mass 76.6±9.2 kg) volunteered to participate in this randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial. The experimental group ingested 3.2 g of β-alanine (separated into two 1.6 g dosages) mixed with 23 g of glucose, whereas the placebo group ingested two dosages containing 23 g of glucose. Following the supplementation intake, participants completed a jump protocol involving countermovement jump (CMJ) and four consecutive countermovement jumps (CMJ-4). Subsequently, a 4…

The New Moral Power of Minorities

2018

The model of three interrelated social entities proposed by Gabriel Mugny to account for the role of active minorities in social innovation and change retains all its relevance and heuristic value (cf. Mugny, 1982). However, the fight of the civil rights movements of the ’60s transformed the moral perspective from which the majority regards their own behaviors towards social minorities. This resulted in an immorality judgment of discriminatory attitudes and behaviors that had long been regarded as natural. Thus a change has been effected on the relationships between majority and minority groups, providing minorities with a new moral power. As a result of such a new moral representation of p…

Orthodoxy and Evangelicalism: An Overview of Their Relationship from the Perspective of Moral Values

2021

Orthodox–Evangelical relationships are dominated by proselytism (at least in Eastern Europe and in the former Soviet Union). This is understood as church conversion practiced through unfair means among people who are already Christians, belonging to so-called “historical churches.” However, beyond it, there is a real potential for cooperation using moral values as a starting point. As there is an increasing disagreement between the Orthodox and mainline Protestant on moral values, the Orthodox and Evangelicals might increase their cooperation as they witness traditional values of Christianity. This kind of cooperation might be partially contextual, but it is based on Biblicism, which both O…
