Construction Guilds in Southern Italy and the Islands (15th-16th Centuries): Leadership and Rivalries

2020

In the South of Italy and the big islands, in counter-trend with respect to the rest of the peninsula, construction guilds know a renewed vitality between the last decades of 15th and the beginning of 16th centuries. Rules, prerogatives and operative modes are regulated by statutes, often undersigned by the masters included in the trade organization, mentioning also the other actors involved in the approval processes. The intertwining of these and other archival documents sometimes reveals the leading role played within the guild by masters that overcome the anonymity usually considered to be inherent in the corporate system. Comparing the rules and the boundaries among specific trades esta…

Bond Stretching and Redox Behavior in Coinage Metal Complexes of the Dichalcogenide Dianions [(SPh2P)2CEEC(PPh2S)2]2− (E=S, Se): Diradical Character …

2011

The metathetical reactions of a) [Li(tmeda)]2[(S)C(PPh2S)2] (Li2⋅3 c) with CuCl2 and b) [Li(tmeda)]2[(SPh2P)2CSSC(PPh2S)2] (Li2⋅4 c) with two equivalents of CuCl both afford the binuclear CuI complex {Cu2[(SPh2P)2CSSC(PPh2S)2]} (5 c). The elongated (C)S[BOND]S(C) bond (ca. 2.54 and 2.72 Å) of the dianionic ligand observed in the solid-state structure of 5 c indicate the presence of diradical character as supported by theoretical analyses. The treatment of [Li(tmeda)]2[(SPh2P)2CSeSeC(PPh2S)2] (Li2⋅4 b) and Li2⋅4 c with AgOSO2CF3 produce the analogous AgI derivatives, {Ag2[(SPh2P)2CEEC(PPh2S)2]} (6 b, E=Se; 6 c, E=S), respectively. The diselenide complex 6 b exhibits notably weaker Ag[BOND]Se…

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IN THE CONTEXT OF “GENERATION 1.5” IN ITALY: THE IMPACT OF MIGRATION

2019

The present doctoral thesis is the result of the research activities conducted as a part of my PhD at the Department of Human Rights at Università degli Studi di Palermo. The research aimed to examine the impact the fact of migration has on the situation with domestic violence in the context of migrants of Generation 1.5 in Italy. Migrant families in Europe are increasingly experiencing domestic violence and as they represent a vulnerable and marginalised part of the society, it makes researching of the phenomenon challenging. The “Generation 1.5” – people who migrated at the age of 5-19 years, whether it’s with their families or following their family on the family reunification procedure …

Stan badań nad wojskowością Rzeczypospolitej Obojga Narodów w XVIII wieku

2019

Stan wiedzy o wojskowości Rzeczypospolitej omówiono w działach: historia wojen z udziałem państwa polsko-litewskiego, podstawy prawne funkcjonowania, liczebność, organizacja i finansowanie sił zbrojnych, z…

Evaluation of desmoglein 1 and 3 autoantibodies in pemphigus vulgaris: correlation with disease severity

2020

Background Pemphigus is an autoimmune blistering disease of the skin and mucous membranes caused by autoantibodies against desmoglein 1 (Dsg1) and desmoglein 3 (Dsg3). Pemphigus vulgaris (PV) is the most common form of pemphigus. The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between the levels of anti-desmoglein 1 and 3 autoantibodies and the severity of PV disease. Material and Methods Nineteen newly diagnosed patients with pemphigus vulgaris were enrolled in this study. The titers of Dsg in subjects by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) were done at diagnosis time-point, 4th and 8th weeks after the initiation of treatment, and the correlation of antibodies with the oral…

Fallberichte

2004

High-dose immunoglobulins (IVIG) are important agents in the treatment of numerous autoimmune disorders. In the field of dermatology, increasing numbers of patients with bullous autoimmune disorders and mixed connective tissue diseases have been treated. We successfully treated a patient with pemphigus vulgaris with IVIG, after he had developed osteonecrosis of his right femoral head while on azathioprine and corticosteroids. After reduction of oral corticosteroids, his disease flared dramatically. The addition of a high dose immunosuppressive regimen including azathioprine and dapsone failed to help. Thus high dose IVIG (2 mg/kg, 4 weeks interval) therapy was initiated and induced complete…

Evaluation of Bone Marrow CD8+ tissue-Resident Memory T Cells in Multiple Myeloma

2019

Background: CD8+ T cell responses are an essential component of the adaptive immune system. After resolution of infection a small population of memory cells is formed. In relation to circulatory patterns, different subsets of memory CD8+ T cells can be identified: the central memory (CM) and the effector memory T cells (EM) (Martin MD, et al., Front Immunol. 2018). In addition, it has been described a subset of resident memory T cells (TRM) permanently living in peripheral tissues, including the bone marrow (BM) (Di Rosa F., et al., Nat Rev Immunol. 2016). It is conceivable that these cells can contribute to the defence toward haematological tumours infiltrating the BM. Therefore, we perfor…

Effects of anti-miR-182 on TSP-1 expression in human colon cancer cells: there is a sense in antisense?

2013

Abstract: Objective: miRNAs are attractive molecules for cancer treatment, including colon rectal cancer (CRC). We investigate on the molecular mechanism by which miR-182 could regulate thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1) expression, a protein down-regulated in CRC and inversely correlated with tumor vascularity and metastasis. Background: MicroRNAs are small non-coding RNAs that regulate the expression of different genes, involved in cancer progression, angiogenesis and metastasis. miR-182, over-expressed in colorectal cancer (CRC), has like predictive target thrombospondin-1 (TSP-1), a protein inversely correlated with tumor vascularity and metastasis that results downregulated in different types of…
