Expression of functional α7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptor during mammalian muscle development and denervation

1999

We have studied, on the transcriptional, protein and functional level, the expression of alpha7 nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nAChR) in the course of rat muscle development, denervation and renervation. At foetal day 13, alpha7 nAChR expression was observed in somites and developing muscles of the back, but not yet in migrating myoblasts. Two days later, concomitant with myoblast aggregation, the alpha7 isoform began to be expressed in isolated myoblasts, with the highest level of expression in the frontal zone of the migrating wave. On foetal day 18, a time when the myoblasts in the upper hindleg have fused, alpha7 nAChR expression was most prominent in the outer layer of muscle tissu…

Trigeminālās neiralģijas terapijas izaicinājumi Latvijā un Eiropā

2020

α-Synuclein expression levels do not significantly affect proteasome function and expression in mice and stably transfected PC12 cell lines

2004

α-Synuclein (α-syn) is a small protein of unknown function that is found aggregated in Lewy bodies, the histopathological hallmark of sporadic Parkinson disease and other synucleinopathies. Mutations in the α-syn gene and a triplication of its gene locus have been identified in early onset familial Parkinson disease. α-Syn turnover can be mediated by the proteasome pathway. A survey of published data may lead to the suggestion that overexpression of α-syn wild type, and/or their variants (A53T and A30P), may produce a decrease in proteasome activity and function, contributing to α-syn aggregation. To investigate the relationship between synuclein expression and proteasome function we have s…

Chronic Adult Hydrocephalus

1974

Knowledge of Wallerian degeneration began in 1852 and, following experimental research on degeneration and regeneration of interrupted nerves, surgeons realized that reinnervation of end organs depended on growth of axons through the interrupted area of nerve. Therefore surgeons tried to reanastomose the stumps. Failures of reinnervation could not be blamed on lack of axoplasma metabolism and flow from cell body to suture line because the clinical observation of amputation neuromas and their constant recurrence demonstrated the unfailing delivery of axoplasma by the nerve cell body; at times to the deep concern of the surgeon, and the constant pain of the patient. The electron microscope sh…

2012

The thesis studies the linguistics, philosophy and aesthetics of literary language of the madman in the Romantic era. It focuses on The Devil's Elixirs (Hoffmann, 1815),The Crumb Fairy (Nodier, 1832), The Diary of a Madman(Gogol, 1835), The Sylph(Odoevsky, 1837) and Aurelia(Nerval, 1855). Other narratives are more promptly summoned, as The Night Watches(Bonaventura, 1804) or Louis Lambert(Balzac, 1832).The madman is a problematic being: he is both unhealthy and inhabited by a divine inspiration. This paradox finds a new relevance in the first half of the nineteenth century. On the one hand, the development of Alienism tends to define mental pathologies from a medical point of view. On the o…

Shame and Desire: A Reading of Gozzano’s La Signorina Felicita

2012

The influence of nimodipine on chromatolysis of motoneurons following axotomy with and without reinnervation: A quantitative image analysis

1996

Using a recently developed image analysis method to quantify the time course of chromatolysis in injured motorneurons we tested the effect of the calcium entry blocker nimodipine (1000 ppm in food pellets) on regenerating and degenerating motoneurons. Following facial-facial, hypoglossal-hypoglossal anastomosis with complete regeneration and following facial and hypoglossal nerve resection which causes a partial neuronal degeneration and postoperative survival times of 4 to 112 days, the texture of the Nissl substance of facial and hypoglossal motoneurons was analyzed on both sides of the brainstem in paraffin serial sections with a VIDASplus image analyzer. Monitoring alterations of the Ni…

Tenascin in denervated human muscle

1996

Tenascin is a large oligomeric glycoprotein of the extracellular matrix. Its location is limited in innervated muscle tissues. We investigated immunohistologically, using two monoclonal antibodies (mab) against Tenascin, biopsied denervated human muscle of children and adults. Tenascin was present in the interstitial space among denervated muscle fibres. Accumulation of Tenascin in denervated adult muscle tissue was frequent, accumulation in denervated muscle tissue of children was sparse and weak. The two antibodies reacted correspondingly. Tenascin was not only found in the vicinity of atrophic muscle fibres, but also close to normally sized fibres, suggesting an early stage of denervatio…
