Exotic bcq¯q¯ four-quark states

2019

We carry out a systematic study of exotic $Q{Q}^{\ensuremath{'}}\overline{q}\overline{q}$ four-quark states containing distinguishable heavy flavors, $b$ and $c$. Different generic constituent models are explored in an attempt to extract general conclusions. The results are robust, predicting the same sets of quantum numbers as the best candidates to lodge bound states independently of the model used, the isoscalar ${J}^{P}={0}^{+}$ and ${J}^{P}={1}^{+}$ states. The first state would be strong and electromagnetic-interaction stable, while the second would decay electromagnetically to $\overline{B}D\ensuremath{\gamma}$. Isovector states are found to be unbound, preventing the existence of ch…

The Complete Two-Loop Integrated Jet Thrust Distribution In Soft-Collinear Effective Theory

2013

In this work, we complete the calculation of the soft part of the two-loop integrated jet thrust distribution in e+e- annihilation. This jet mass observable is based on the thrust cone jet algorithm, which involves a veto scale for out-of-jet radiation. The previously uncomputed part of our result depends in a complicated way on the jet cone size, r, and at intermediate stages of the calculation we actually encounter a new class of multiple polylogarithms. We employ an extension of the coproduct calculus to systematically exploit functional relations and represent our results concisely. In contrast to the individual contributions, the sum of all global terms can be expressed in terms of cla…

A composite Heavy Vector Triplet in the ATLAS di-boson excess

2015

Composite vector resonances in the triplet of the SM SU$(2)_{L}$ gauge group are a universal prediction of "natural" new physics models involving a new strongly-interacting sector and are therefore among the most plausible new particles that the LHC could discover. We consider the possibility that one such triplet could account for the ATLAS excess in the invariant-mass spectrum of boson-tagged jets and we assess the compatibility of this hypothesis with all other relevant resonance searches. We find that the hypothesis is not excluded and that the predicted signal is close to the expected sensitivity of several channels, some of which show an upper fluctuation of the observed limit while o…

ΔL=3 processes: Proton decay and the LHC

2018

We discuss lepton number violation in three units. From an effective field theory point of view, ΔL=3 processes can only arise from dimension 9 or higher operators. These operators also violate baryon number, hence many of them will induce proton decay. Given the high dimensionality of these operators, in order to have a proton half-life in the observable range, the new physics associated to ΔL=3 processes should be at a scale as low as 1 TeV. This opens up the possibility of searching for such processes not only in proton decay experiments but also at the LHC. In this work we analyze the relevant d=9, 11, 13 operators which violate lepton number in three units. We then construct one simple…

Lepton number violation and scalar searches at the LHC

2013

We review the SM extensions with scalar multiplets including doubly- charged components eventually observable as di-leptonic resonances at the LHC. Special emphasis is paid to the limits on LNV implied by doubly- charged scalar searches at the LHC, and to the characterization of the multiplet doubly-charged scalars belong to if they are observed to decay into same-sign charged lepton pairs.

Search for New Physics via Baryon EDM at LHC

2021

Permanent electric dipole moments (EDMs) of fundamental particles provide powerful probes for physics beyond the Standard Model. We propose to search for the EDM of strange and charm baryons at LHC, extending the ongoing experimental program on the neutron, muon, atoms, molecules and light nuclei. The EDM of strange $\Lambda$ baryons, selected from weak decays of charm baryons produced in pp collisions at LHC, can be determined by studying the spin precession in the magnetic field of the detector tracking system. A test of CPT symmetry can be performed by measuring the magnetic dipole moment of $\Lambda$ and $\overline{\Lambda}$ baryons. For short-lived $\Lambda_c^+$ and $\Xi_c^+$ baryons, …

Distinguishing between lepton number violating scalars at the LHC

2013

Scalars with lepton number violating interactions decaying into lepton pairs, as those mediating the see-saw of type II, always include doubly-charged components. If these are observed at the LHC, their electroweak quantum numbers can be determined through their leptonic decays in pair and single production.

Supersymmetric origin of neutrino mass

2004

Supersymmetry with breaking of R-parity provides an attractive way to generate neutrino masses and lepton mixing angles in accordance to present neutrino data. We review the main theoretical features of the bilinear R-parity breaking (BRpV) model, and stress that it is the simplest extension of the minimal supersymmetric standard model (MSSM) which includes lepton number violation. We describe how it leads to a successful phenomenological model with hierarchical neutrino masses. In contrast to seesaw models, the BRpV model can be probed at future collider experiments, like the Large Hadron Collider or the Next Linear Collider, since the decay pattern of the lightest supersymmetric particle …
