Determination of time dependence of passive layer on nickel from instantaneous mass/charge function F(dm/dQ) in competitive passivation/dissolution c…

2006

Nickel metal deposited on gold electrodes was studied in the passivity range of potentials under potentiostatic conditions and in a weakly acid sulphate medium. Mass and current variations during electrochemical experiments were analysed with the help of the instantaneous mass/charge ratio (Fdm/dQ). This analysis allows to obtain the intensity current component associated to the formation of a passive layer of Ni(OH)2, and, in this way, the experimental thickness growth. These experimental findings have been fitted to a theoretical model based on the point defect model theory for obtaining the time dependence of the thickness of the passive layer during the first stages of growth of the pas…

Cerebral White Matter Lesions and Dysmorphisms: Signs Suggestive of 6p25 Deletion Syndrome—Literature Review

2019

AbstractDeletion of the region including chromosome 6p25 has been defined as a syndrome, with more than 68 reported cases. Individuals affected by the syndrome exhibit variable findings, including developmental delay and intellectual disability, cardiac anomalies, dysmorphic features, and—less commonly—skeletal and renal malformations. Ocular and hearing abnormalities are the most notable presenting features. The region encompasses more than 15 genes, of which the FOX group is the most likely causal factor of the clinical manifestations. We report the case of a 2-year-old child with developmental delay, generalized hypotonia, facial dysmorphism, and anomalies involving malformations of the …

A MULTI-LEVEL FUNCTIONAL STUDY OF A SNAP25 AT-RISK VARIANT FOR BIPOLAR DISORDER AND SCHIZOPHRENIA

2019

Background The synaptosomal associated protein SNAP25 is crucial for synaptic vesicle docking and fusion and has been associated with multiple psychiatric conditions. We recently identified a promoter variant in SNAP25, rs6039769, associated with bipolar disorder and gene expression in prefrontal cortex. Methods Here, we performed a genetic association study using this variation on two independent cohorts of 288 and 173 subjects with schizophrenia and 315 unaffected control individuals. We replicated our results using data from the schizophrenia group of the Psychiatric Genomics Consortium (PGC). Functional consequences combined both in vitro and post-mortem gene expression analysis on 30 p…

Electro-generation of H2O2 and abatement of organic pollutant in water by an electro-Fenton process in a microfluidic reactor

2013

The electro-generation of H2O2 and the abatement of the model organic pollutant Acid Orange 7 (AO7) in water by an electro-Fenton process were performed both in a conventional undivided macro cell and, for the first time, in a microfluidic reactor. Under optimized operative conditions, the reduction of oxygen in the microdevice gave rise, using graphite cathode, to a concentration of H2O2 of about 6 mM, one order of magnitude higher than that achieved in conventional cells. Similarly, when electro-Fenton was performed in the microfluidic reactor a dramatic increase of the abatement of COD was achieved with respect to that obtained in a conventional cell. Validation of the mass response of a quartz crystal microbalance coated with Prussian Blue film for ac electrogravimetry

2000

Prussian Blue (PB) films have been considerably studied for many research applications such as electrochromic material development, new material for batteries, etc. Many analytical techniques were employed for examining PB electrochemical behaviour in solution and the quartz crystal microbalance (QCM) used in the alternative regime (ac electrogravimetry) appeared as an attractive in situ mass sensor due to its low cost and its high mass sensitivity. Unfortunately, the validity of the common Sauerbrey equation was questionable with these films or in other terms if the QCM was used as a pure mass sensor. In this work PB film is examined through acoustic measurements and the response can be in…

Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy as a tool to estimate thickness in PB films

2006

The analysis of the faradaic impedance of electroactive films provides a characteristic point from which it is possible to estimate the thickness of thin films. Thus, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy was used in this paper as a fast and easy technique to estimate this thickness. The proposed method was checked on PB films. Quantification of electrochromic kinetics by analysis of RGB digital video images

2018

A new, rapid, and practical procedure to obtain quantitative kinetic information of electrochromic materials is proposed. When the transition between two colors on a colored electrode surface is monitorized by digital video, the analysis of pixel color intensity (I) in sequential RGB digital images allows us to precise the half-life time (t1/2) of the color change since a maximum value of the standard deviation of the pixel intensity (σ(I)) is reached. We simulated and analyzed the evolution of standard deviation during an electrochromic transition in different circumstances (kinetic and diffusion control). As an example of application, electrochromic transitions of a thin film model, the P…

Sign-indefinite second order differential operators on finite metric graphs

2012

The question of self-adjoint realizations of sign-indefinite second order differential operators is discussed in terms of a model problem. Operators of the type $-\frac{d}{dx} \sgn (x) \frac{d}{dx}$ are generalized to finite, not necessarily compact, metric graphs. All self-adjoint realizations are parametrized using methods from extension theory. The spectral and scattering theory of the self-adjoint realizations are studied in detail.

Crosslinking of poly(vinylpyrrolidone) activated by electrogenerated hydroxyl radicals: a first step towards a simple and cheap synthetic route of na…

2016

A facile electrosynthesis route for the preparation of polymer nanogels based on the in situ production of hydroxyl radicals is reported for the first time. Electro-Fenton process with continuous H2O2 electrogeneration and Fe2+ regeneration performs better than electro-oxidation with a boron-doped diamond or dimensionally stable anode for promoting crosslinking of poly(vinylpyrrolidone). Magnetoelectrochemical modulation of pre-organization processes in a 4,4′-dinitrobiphenyl azacrown macrocyclic lactam

2004

A magnetoelectrochemical effect consisting on the modulation of the reaction rate of pre-organization reactions in a 4,4′-dinitrobiphenyl azacrown lactam is described. The electrochemical response of that compound in DMSO solution at microelectrodes consists in two successive dinitrobiphenyl-centred one-electron transfer processes at −0.9 and −1.6 V vs. AgCl/Ag involving the transition from the dihedral geometry of the neutral starting compound to the planar geometry of the final dianion, resulting in an overall ECE mechanism. In the presence of moderate (0.05–0.2 T) static magnetic fields, the second electron transfer process decreases significantly, the apparent rate constant of the dihed…
