Testing the mechanism of R-parity breaking with slepton LSP decays

2003

In supersymmetric models R-parity can be violated through either bilinear or trilinear terms in the superpotential, or both. If charged scalar leptons are the lightest supersymmetric particles, their decay properties can be used to obtain information about the relative importance of these couplings. We show that in some specific scenarios it is even possible to decide whether bilinear or trilinear terms give the dominant contribution to the neutrino mass matrix.

Solar Neutrino Masses and Mixing from Bilinear R-Parity Broken Supersymmetry: Analytical versus Numerical Results

2003

We give an analytical calculation of solar neutrino masses and mixing at one-loop order within bilinear R-parity breaking supersymmetry, and compare our results to the exact numerical calculation. Our method is based on a systematic perturbative expansion of R-parity violating vertices to leading order. We find in general quite good agreement between approximate and full numerical calculation, but the approximate expressions are much simpler to implement. Our formalism works especially well for the case of the large mixing angle MSW solution (LMA-MSW), now strongly favoured by the recent KamLAND reactor neutrino data.

Spontaneous R-parity violation: Lightest neutralino decays and neutrino mixing angles at future colliders

2008

We study the decays of the lightest supersymmetric particle (LSP) in models with spontaneously broken R-parity. We focus on the two cases that the LSP is either a bino or a neutral singlet lepton. We work out the most important phenomenological differences between these two scenarios and discuss also how they might be distinguished from explicit R-Parity breaking models. In both cases we find that certain ratios of decay branching ratios are correlated with either the solar or the atmospheric (and reactor) neutrino angle. The hypothesis that spontaneous R-Parity violation is the source of the observed neutrino masses is therefore potentially testable at the LHC.

Scotogenic dark matter stability from gauged matter parity

2019

We explore the idea that dark matter stability results from the presence of a matter-parity symmetry, arising naturally as a consequence of the spontaneous breaking of an extended $\mathrm{SU(3) \otimes SU(3)_L \otimes U(1)_X \otimes U(1)_{N}}$ electroweak gauge symmetry with fully gauged B-L. Using this framework we construct a theory for scotogenic dark matter and analyze its main features.

Gravitational violation of R parity and its cosmological signatures

1996

The discrete R-parity ($R_P$) usually imposed on the Supersymmetric (SUSY) models is expected to be broken at least gravitationally. If the neutralino is a dark matter particle its decay channels into positrons, antiprotons and neutrinos are severely constrained from astrophysical observations. These constraints are shown to be violated even for Planck-mass-suppressed dimension-five interactions arising from gravitational effects. We perform a general analysis of gravitationally induced $R_P$ violation and identify two plausible and astrophysically consistent scenarios for achieving the required suppression.

Search for charginos and neutralinos with R-parity violation at =130 136

1996

Searches for charginos and neutralinos produced in e+e− collisions at centre-of-mass energies of 130 and 136 GeV have been performed under the assumptions that R-parity is not conserved, that the dominant R-parity violating coupling involves only leptonic fields, and that the lifetime of the lightest supersymmetric particle can be neglected. In the 5.7 pb−1 data sample collected by ALEPH, no candidate events were found. As a result, chargino and neutralino masses and couplings are constrained and the domains previously excluded at LEP1 are extended.

Novel Scalar Boson Decays in SUSY with Broken R-Parity

1995

R parity violation can induce mixing of the supersymmetric Higgs bosons with the sneutrinos at the tree level. We study the effect of this mixing on the decays of Higgs scalars as well as sneutrinos in an effective model where the violation of R parity is included in the minimal supersymmetric model through bilinear lepton number violating superpotential terms. We show that a small violation of R parity can lead to a sizeable branching ratio for the supersymmetric Higgs boson decay mode $H \to \chi \ell$ (where $\chi$ denotes an electroweak gaugino and $\ell$ is either a tau neutrino or a tau lepton). Relevant constraints on R parity violation as well as those coming from SUSY particle sear…

Phenomenology of dark matter from A(4) flavor symmetry

2011

We investigate a model in which Dark Matter is stabilized by means of a Z2 parity that results from the same non-abelian discrete flavor symmetry which accounts for the observed pattern of neutrino mixing. In our A4 example the standard model is extended by three extra Higgs doublets and the Z2 parity emerges as a remnant of the spontaneous breaking of A4 after electroweak symmetry breaking. We perform an analysis of the parameter space of the model consistent with electroweak precision tests, collider searches and perturbativity. We determine the regions compatible with the observed relic dark matter density and we present prospects for detection in direct as well as indirect Dark Matter s…

Collider signals of gravitino dark matter in bilinearly broken R-parity

2005

In models with gauge mediated supersymmetry breaking the gravitino is the lightest supersymmetric particle. If R-parity is violated the gravitino decays, but with a half-live far exceeding the age of the universe and thus is, in principle, a candidate for the dark matter. We consider the decays of the next-to-lightest supersymmetric particle, assumed to be the neutralino. We show that in models where the breaking of R-parity is bilinear, the condition that R-parity violation explains correctly the measured neutrino masses fixes the branching ratio of the decay ${\tilde \chi}^0_1 \to {\tilde G}\gamma$ in the range $10^{-3}-10^{-2}$, if the gravitino mass is in the range required to solve the…

Sneutrino-induced like sign dilepton signal with conservedRparity

2001

Lepton number violation could be manifest in the sneutrino sector of supersymmetric extensions of the standard model with conserved R-parity. Then sneutrinos decay partly into the ``wrong sign charged lepton'' final state, if kinematically accessible. In sneutrino pair production or associated single sneutrino production, the signal then is a like sign dilepton final state. Under favourable circumstances, such a signal could be visible at the LHC or a next generation linear collider for a relative sneutrino mass-splitting of order ${\cal O}(0.001)$ and sneutrino width of order ${\cal O}$(1 GeV). On the other hand, the like sign dilepton event rate at the TEVATRON is probably too small to be…
