Microbial Food Web Components as Potential Indicators of Urban Hydroecosystems / Mikrobiālās ķēdēs Komponentu Potenciāls Pielietojums Urbānās Vides Ū…

2015

Abstract Assessment of the effect of urbanisation on biodiversity and ecological impact studies are focused on plants, birds, terrestrial arthropods, and relatively few studies have been on aquatic organisms. The aim of this study was to investigate the microbial food web components as potential indicators of the trophic state of two small natural lakes (Gaiļezers, Bābelītis), two artificial lakes or reservoirs (created after excavation activities before 20 years) and the Gulf of Riga seaside Vecāķi beach (littoral), all of which are located in the city of Riga or close to it. Analysis of samples was conducted from April til October 2014 by epifluorescense microscopy for pico and nanoplankt…

Dynamics of exciton creation and decay processes in composition – disordered InGaN thin films

2011

In the GaN-based ternary alloys, InGaN crystals have been recognized as key materials for e-h plasmas-exciton dynamics, because of large exciton binding energies (24.8 meV in GaN). We report investigations of creating and recombination dynamics of excitons in commercially important InxGa1-xN composition range from x = 0.1 to 0.18 in which nanoscale indium composition fluctuation occurs and formation of indium rich clusters acting as quantum dots (QD) can be expected. Three MOCVD grown samples having x = 0.1; 0.14 and 0.18 have been investigated using 3D picosecond transient PL spectroscopy. It has been found that the band to band photo excitation at 15 K in whole composition range results i…

Multiparticle emission in the decay of Ar 31

2014

A multihit capacity setup was used to study the decay of the dripline nucleus 31Ar, produced at the ISOLDE facility at CERN. A spectroscopic analysis of the β-delayed three-proton decay of 31Ar is presented for the first time together with a quantitative analysis of the β-delayed 2pγ decay. A new method for determination of the spin of low-lying levels in the βp daughter 30S using proton-proton angular correlations is presented and used to determine that the spin of the 5.2-MeV level is most likely 3+ with 4+ also possible. The half-life of 31Ar is found to be 15.1(3) ms. An improved analysis of the Fermi β strength including the β3p-decay mode gives a total measured branching ratio of 3.60…

Termite Nests: Architecture, Regulation and Defence

2000

Termite nest architecture evolved along with changes in lifestyle, the basic building behaviour being transmitted through the genes of reproductives. The main selective pressure is thought to have been defence against predators. In more advanced termites the maintenance of homeostasis in temperature and humidity may appear to dominate nest architecture. Nest defence involves nest structures in combination with the morphology and behaviour of the sterile castes. The soldier caste, characteristic of termites, is specialized for defence, with a variety of mechanical and chemical weapons, but this caste was lost in some advanced genera, especially the Apicotermitinae. Workers are always involve…

Conceptual and epistemological difficulties of future teachers of physics and chemistry in the energetic explanations of physical and chemical phenom…

2016

2D+1 spatial solitons in heavy metal oxide glass

2007

Two-dimensional self-confinement of near-infrared picosecond pulsed beams is demonstrated in a novel heavy metal-oxide glass, three-photon absorption being the stabilization mechanism to prevent catastrophic collapse.

Cine, deporte y propaganda. De "Olympia" al simulacro.

2016
