Results are presented of searches for the production of supersymmetric particles decaying into final states with missing transverse momentum and exactly two isolated leptons in √ s = 7 TeV proton–proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider. Search strategies requiring lepton pairs with identical-sign or opposite-sign electric charges are described. In a data sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 35 pb−1 collected with the ATLAS detector, no significant excesses are observed. This letter reports the results of a search for top and bottom squarks from gluino pair production in 4.7 fb[superscript −1] of pp collisions at s√=7 TeV using the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The search is performed in events with large missing transverse momentum and at least three jets identified as originating from a b-quark. Exclusion limits are presented for a variety of gluino-mediated models with gluino masses up to 1 TeV excluded.

Production of π0 and η mesons up to high transverse momentum in pp collisions at 2.76 TeV

The invariant differential cross sections for inclusive π0 and η mesons at midrapidity were measured in pp collisions at √s = 2.76 TeV for transverse momenta 0.4 < pT < 40 GeV/c and 0.6 < pT < 20 GeV/c, respectively, using the ALICE detector. This large range in pT was achieved by combining various analysis techniques and different triggers involving the electromagnetic calorimeter (EMCal). In particular, a new single-cluster, shower-shape based method was developed for the identification of highpT neutral pions, which exploits that the showers originating from their decay photons overlap in the EMCal. Single hadron response measurement and calorimeter jet energy scale uncertainty with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

The uncertainty on the calorimeter energy response to jets of particles is derived for the ATLAS experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). First, the calorimeter response to single isolated charged hadrons is measured and compared to the Monte Carlo simulation using proton-proton collisions at centre-of-mass energies of √s = 900 GeV and 7 TeV collected during 2009 and 2010. Then, using the decay of Ks and Λ particles, the calorimeter response to specific types of particles (positively and negatively charged pions, protons, and anti-protons) is measured and compared to the Monte Carlo predictions. Femtoscopy with identified charged pions in proton-lead collisions at sNN=5.02 TeV with ATLAS

Bose-Einstein correlations between identified charged pions are measured for $p$+Pb collisions at $\sqrt{s_{\mathrm{NN}}}=5.02$ TeV using data recorded by the ATLAS detector at the LHC corresponding to a total integrated luminosity of $28$ $\mathrm{nb}^{-1}$. Pions are identified using ionization energy loss measured in the pixel detector. Two-particle correlation functions and the extracted source radii are presented as a function of collision centrality as well as the average transverse momentum ($k_{\mathrm{T}}$) and rapidity ($y^{\star}_{\pi\pi}$) of the pair. Antiproton-proton annihilation at rest in H2 gas into π+ π− π0

Antiproton-proton annihilation at rest into π+ π− π0 has been studied by stopping antiprotons from LEAR in a H2 gas target at normal temperature and pressure. The reaction is observed in coincidence withL X-rays which are emitted in the cascade of\(\bar pp\) atoms. The X-rays populate one of the angular momentumL=1 states of a\(\bar pp\) atom which then annihilates. A spinparity analysis of the π+ π− π0 Dalitz plot gives contributions from the threeP states from which annihilation into three pions is allowed. Accelerator testing of the general antiparticle spectrometer; a novel approach to indirect dark matter detection

We report on recent accelerator testing of a prototype general antiparticle spectrometer (GAPS). GAPS is a novel approach for indirect dark matter searches that exploits the antideuterons produced in neutralino-neutralino annihilations. GAPS captures these antideuterons into a target with the subsequent formation of exotic atoms. These exotic atoms decay with the emission of X-rays of precisely defined energy and a correlated pion signature from nuclear annihilation. This signature uniquely characterizes the antideuterons. TANAMI Blazars in the IceCube PeV Neutrino Fields

The IceCube Collaboration has announced the discovery of a neutrino flux in excess of the atmospheric background. Due to the steeply falling atmospheric background spectrum, events at PeV energies are most likely of extraterrestrial origin. We present the multiwavelength properties of the six radio brightest blazars positionally coincident with these events using contemporaneous data of the TANAMI blazar sample, including high-resolution images and spectral energy distributions. High energy neutrinos from novae in symbiotic binaries: The case of V407 Cygni

2010

Detection of high-energy (>= 100 MeV) gamma rays by the Fermi Large Area Telescope from a nova in the symbiotic binary system V407 Cygni has opened the possibility of high-energy neutrino detection from this type of source. A thermonuclear explosion on the white dwarf surface sets off a nova shell in motion that expands and slows down in a dense surrounding medium provided by the red giant companion. Particles are accelerated in the shocks of the shell and interact with the surrounding medium to produce observed gamma rays.
