BIODEGRADABLE POLYMER-BASED COMPOSITES FILLED WITH BIOCHAR FOR TUNABLE RELEASE OF CARVACROL

2022

Bio-composites are commonly obtained by combining biodegradable polymers with fillers collected from natural resources. In this context, biochar (BC) is attracting high interest as filler for polymer-based composites due to its challenging properties, including ecosustainability. This study aimed to prepare and characterize bio-composites with antimicrobial properties evaluating the role of the filler in the release kinetics. In particular, BC as filler and carvacrol (CRV) as antimicrobial agent, were incorporated via melt-compounding in poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) samples. The rheological, tensile, and antimicrobial properties of the obtained bio-composites were evaluate…

Measurement of charged jet production cross sections and nuclear modification in p–Pb collisions at √sNN=5.02 TeV

2015

Charged jet production cross sections in p–Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV measured with the ALICE detector at the LHC are presented. Using the anti-kT algorithm, jets have been reconstructed in the central rapidity region from charged particles with resolution parameters R = 0.2 and R = 0.4. The reconstructed jets have been corrected for detector effects and the underlying event background. To calculate the nuclear modification factor, RpPb, of charged jets in p–Pb collisions, a pp reference was constructed by scaling previously measured charged jet spectra at √s = 7 TeV. In the transverse momentum range 20 ≤ pT, ch jet ≤ 120 GeV/c, RpPb is found to be consistent with unity, indicating th…

Centrality dependence of particle production in p−Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV

2015

We report measurements of the primary charged-particle pseudorapidity density and transverse momentum distributions in p-Pb collisions at √sNN = 5.02 TeV and investigate their correlation with experimental observables sensitive to the centrality of the collision. Centrality classes are defined by using different event-activity estimators, i.e., charged-particle multiplicities measured in three different pseudorapidity regions as well as the energy measured at beam rapidity (zero degree). The procedures to determine the centrality, quantified by the number of participants (Npart) or the number of nucleon-nucleon binary collisions (Ncoll) are described. We show that, in contrast to Pb-Pb coll…

Effect of an organoclay on the photochemical transformations of a PBAT/PLA blend and morpho-chemical features of crosslinked networks

2021

Abstract In this work, we report the effect of an organoclay on the photochemical weathering of nanocomposites based on a poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT)/poly(lactic acid) (PLA) blend. The evolution of physicochemical properties was monitored by integrating spectroscopic, mechanical, and morphological analyses. A robust relationship was found between the molecular transformations of the polymer macromolecules and the morpho-mechanical properties of irradiated films. Moreover, the analysis of insoluble fractions extracted from nanocomposites pointed out that free-standing, porous structures, displaying an unprecedented thickness as great as 100 µm, were formed, thus unambiguou…

The synergy between the CsPbBr3 nanoparticle surface and the organic ligand becomes manifest in a demanding carbon–carbon coupling reaction

2020

We demonstrate here the suitability of CsPbBr3nanoparticles as photosensitizers for a demanding photoredox catalytic homo- and cross-coupling of alkyl bromides at room temperature by merely using visible light and an electron donor, thanks to the cooperative action between the nanoparticle surface and organic capping. PBI-based composite membranes for polymer fuel cells

2010

Abstract In the present study poly(2,2-(2,6-pyridin)-5,5-bibenzimidazole) was used for the preparation of novel MEAs for high-temperature polymer fuel cells (HT-PEMFCs). We prepared hybrid materials with two types of silica fillers in order to increase the MEA performances using this polymer. The membranes were characterized in terms of their microstructure and thermal stability. Cell operation tests and Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy were used for the characterization of the MEAs. A maximum power density of about 80 mW cm−2 was obtained at 300 mA cm−2 by using an imidazole-modified silica filler. The EIS technique showed that the fillers chiefly help to reduce the charge transfer r…

Charge-dependent flow and the search for the chiral magnetic wave in Pb-Pb collisions at √sNN = 2.76 TeV

2016

We report on measurements of a charge-dependent flow using a novel three-particle correlator with ALICE in Pb-Pb collisions at the CERN Large Hadron Collider (LHC), and discuss the implications for observation of local parity violation and the chiral magnetic wave (CMW) in heavy-ion collisions. Charge-dependent flow is reported for different collision centralities as a function of the event charge asymmetry. While our results are in qualitative agreement with expectations based on the CMW, the nonzero signal observed in higher harmonics correlations indicates a possible significant background contribution. We also present results on a differential correlator, where the flow of positive and …

Postbuckling analysis of cracked stiffned plates by pb–2 Rayleigh-Ritz method

2015

A Rayleigh-Ritz approach for the analysis of buckling and post-buckling behavior of cracked composite stiffened plates is presented. The structure is thought as the assembly of plate elements modeled by the first order shear deformation theory. Continuity along the edges common to contiguous elements are enforced by using penalty techniques, which also allow to straightforwardly implement efficient crack modeling strategies. General symmetric and unsymmetric stacking sequences are considered and numerical procedures have been developed and used to validate the present solution by comparison with FEA results. Original results are also presented for post-buckling solution of multilayered stif…

2017

The molecular structure of the title compound, [FePt(CN)4(C14H8N2)2(H2O)2]n, consists of one-dimensional polymeric [–Fe–NC–Pt(CN)2–CN–]∞chains. Two water molecules and two monodentate 1,4-bis(pyridin-4-yl)buta-1,3-diyne (bpb) ligand molecules complete the octahedral coordination sphere of the FeIIatoms. The Fe—N(py) bond length (py is pyridine) is 2.2700 (15) Å, Fe—N(cyanide) is 2.1185 (16) Å and the Fe—O distance is 2.1275 (14) Å. The water molecules are hydrogen bonded to either bpb ligands or cyanide groups of the planar [Pt(CN)4]2−anion of adjacent polymeric chains. These O—H...N hydrogen bonds, in conjunction with offset and tilted π–π stacking interactions between bpb ligands and cyan…

Dialog w wychowaniu do wartości w szkole

2021
