Bounded elements of C*-inductive locally convex spaces

2013

The notion of bounded element of C*-inductive locally convex spaces (or C*-inductive partial *-algebras) is introduced and discussed in two ways: The first one takes into account the inductive structure provided by certain families of C*-algebras; the second one is linked to the natural order of these spaces. A particular attention is devoted to the relevant instance provided by the space of continuous linear maps acting in a rigged Hilbert space.

Positive definite functions of finitary isometry groups over fields of odd characteristic

2007

Abstract This paper is part of a programme to describe the lattice of all two-sided ideals in complex group algebras of simple locally finite groups. Here we determine the extremal normalized positive definite functions for finitary groups of isometries, defined over fields of odd characteristic.

Contractivity results in ordered spaces. Applications to relative operator bounds and projections with norm one

2016

This paper provides various “contractivity” results for linear operators of the form I−C where C are positive contractions on real ordered Banach spaces X. If A generates a positive contraction semigroup in Lebesgue spaces Lp(μ), we show (M. Pierre's result) that A(λ−A)−1 is a “contraction on the positive cone”, i.e. A(λ−A)−1x≤x for all x∈L+p(μ)(λ>0), provided that p⩾2.  We show also that this result is not true for 1 ⩽ p<2. We give an extension of M. Pierre's result to general ordered Banach spaces X under a suitable uniform monotony assumption on the duality map on the positive cone X+. We deduce from this result that, in such spaces, I−C is a contraction on X+ for any positive projection…

Representable linear functionals on partial *-algebras

2012

A GNS-like *-representation of a partial *-algebra \({{\mathfrak A}}\) defined by certain representable linear functionals on \({{\mathfrak A}}\) is constructed. The study of the interplay with the GNS construction associated with invariant positive sesquilinear forms (ips) leads to the notions of pre-core and of singular form. It is shown that a positive sesquilinear form with pre-core always decomposes into the sum of an ips form and a singular one.

First trimester biochemical screening for Down's syndrome in singleton pregnancies conceived by assisted reproduction

2005

BACKGROUND: Serum biochemical markers [free betahCG (fbetahCG); pregnancy-associated plasma protein-A (PAPP-A)] used in first trimester Down's syndrome screening have not been fully investigated in pregnancies achieved by assisted reproduction techniques. We present data on pregnancies conceived by all types of assisted reproduction techniques, including pregnancies following ovum donation (OD) and a large sample by ICSI. METHODS: First trimester Down's syndrome screening was performed in 1054 normal singleton pregnancies: natural conception (n = 498), ovulation induction (OS, n = 97), IVF (n = 47), ICSI (n = 222) and OD (n = 190). RESULTS: No differences in maternal levels of fbetahCG and …

The Association of Intraoperative driving pressure with postoperative pulmonary complications in open versus closed abdominal surgery patients – a po…

2021

Abstract Background It is uncertain whether the association of the intraoperative driving pressure (ΔP) with postoperative pulmonary complications (PPCs) depends on the surgical approach during abdominal surgery. Our primary objective was to determine and compare the association of time–weighted average ΔP (ΔPTW) with PPCs. We also tested the association of ΔPTW with intraoperative adverse events. Methods Posthoc retrospective propensity score–weighted cohort analysis of patients undergoing open or closed abdominal surgery in the ‘Local ASsessment of Ventilatory management during General Anaesthesia for Surgery’ (LAS VEGAS) study, that included patients in 146 hospitals across 29 countries.…

A survey on IVIVC/IVIVR development in the pharmaceutical industry – Past experience and current perspectives

2017

The present work aimed to describe the current status of IVIVC/IVIVR development in the pharmaceutical industry, focusing on the use and perception of specific approaches as well as successful and failed case studies. Two questionnaires have been distributed to 13 EFPIA partners of the Oral Biopharmaceutics Tools Initiative and to the Pharmacokinetics Working Party of the European Medicines Agency in order to capture the perspectives and experiences of industry scientists and agency members, respectively. Responses from ten companies and three European Agencies were received between May 21st 2014 and January 19th 2016. The majority of the companies acknowledged the importance of IVIVC/IVIVR…

Detection of  9-Tetrahydrocannabinol and Amphetamine-Type Stimulants in Oral Fluid Using the Rapid Stat  Point-of-Collection Drug-Testing Device

2010

The Rapid Stat assay, a point-of-collection drug-testing device for detection of amphetamines, cannabinoids, cocaine, opiates, methadone, and benzodiazepines in oral fluid, was evaluated for cannabis and amphetamine-type stimulants. The Rapid Stat tests (n = 134) were applied by police officers in routine traffic checks. Oral fluid and blood samples were analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS) for Delta(9)-tetrahydrocannabinol, amphetamine, methamphetamine, methylenedioxymethamphetamine, methylenedioxyethylamphetamine, and methylenedioxyamphetamine. The comparison of GC-MS analysis of oral fluid with the Rapid Stat results for cannabis showed a sensitivity of 85%, a spec…

PD‐1‐induced T cell exhaustion is controlled by a Drp1‐dependent mechanism

2022

Programmed cell death‐1 (PD‐1) signaling downregulates the T‐cell response, promoting an exhausted state in tumor‐infiltrating T cells, through mostly unveiled molecular mechanisms. Dynamin‐related protein‐1 (Drp1)‐dependent mitochondrial fission plays a crucial role in sustaining T‐cell motility, proliferation, survival, and glycolytic engagement. Interestingly, such processes are exactly those inhibited by PD‐1 in tumor‐infiltrating T cells. Here, we show that PD‐1pos CD8+ T cells infiltrating an MC38 (murine adenocarcinoma)‐derived murine tumor mass have a downregulated Drp1 activity and more elongated mitochondria compared with PD‐1neg counterparts. Also, PD‐1pos lymphocytic elements in…
