Joint second-order parameter estimation for spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox processes

We propose a new fitting method to estimate the set of second-order parameters for the class of homogeneous spatio-temporal log-Gaussian Cox point processes. With simulations, we show that the proposed minimum contrast procedure, based on the spatio-temporal pair correlation function, provides reliable estimates and we compare the results with the current available methods. Moreover, the proposed method can be used in the case of both separable and non-separable parametric specifications of the correlation function of the underlying Gaussian Random Field. We describe earthquake sequences comparing several Cox model specifications.

Sex and sexual ornamentation associated with survival of the cyprinid fish, Rutilus rutilus, under disease stress

By conveying information of disease resistance, sexual signals may be used as cues for adaptive mate choice. Here we report observations on survival of laboratory-maintained, wild-collected, sexually mature, ready-to-spawn cyprinid fish, Rutilus rutilus (roach), under accidental epidemic attributed to Flavobacterium psychrophilum, diagnosed using species-specific PCR. The fish were maintained in a single tank. During the 27 days observation period, both the proportion of fish surviving the infection as well as the length-adjusted mean survival time of the fish that died was the highest among the high-ornamented males with large breeding tubercles, intermediary among the low-ornamented males…

Diplomdarba mērķis bija pārbaudīt, kā autentiskie video materiāli ietekmē runāšanas prasmes 8. klasē. Diplomdarba autors uzskata, ka spēja izteikt viedokli ir prasme, kuru katram studentam vajadzētu prast pielietot. Turklāt, teorijas avoti apstiprina to, ka autentiskie video var iespaidot runāšanas prasmes. Izvēlētā pētījuma metode bija atsevišķa gadījuma pētījums Valsts Ģimnāzijā. Datu vākšanas metodes bija anketa, pašvērtējuma lapa skolēniem un vērtēšanas kritēriji, ko dokumentēja darba autors. Lai pārbaudītu autentisko video ietekmi, tika novadītas 3 stundas. Nest predation affects breeding site choice, and has been suggested to drive niche segregation and local coexistence of species. Interspecific social information use may, in turn, result in copying or rejection of heterospecific niche characteristics and thus affect realized niche overlap between species.
