Surgical anatomy applied to transperitoneal approaches of the abdominal aorta and visceral trunks. Dynamic article.

2020

Access to the abdominal aorta and its visceral trunks is possible through several approaches. Dissections of five cadavers performed during three National Surgical Anatomy courses applied to Aorta, Hepatobiliopancreatic and Digestive Surgery. Videos and pictures were taken throughout the dissections and showed different abdominal aorta approaches. Abdominal aorta and visceral trunks approaches: longitudinal inframesocolic access, supraceliac clamping, celiac trunk dissection, superior mesenteric artery approaches (retroperitoneal after Kocher menoeuvre, supramesocolic or inframesocolic), Cattell-Braasch manoeuvre and mattox manoeuvre: retrorenal and prerenal. Correct knowledge of the intraa…

The spectrum of allergic (cross-)sensitivity in clinical patch testing with 'para amino' compounds

2002

Background: Allergic contact sensitization to ‘para amino’ compounds is frequent and the spectrum of cross-reactivity between members of this chemical group is variable. Methods: A retrospective analysis of clinical patch test data obtained with a special test series in the centres of the Information Network of Departments of Dermatology (IVDK) between 1995 and 1999. Results: In the 638 patients tested with the above test panel positive reactions were observed most often to p-aminoazobenzene (16.2%), p-phenylenediamine (14.1%), p-toluylenediamine (10.0%), followed by 4,4′-diaminodiphenylmethane (8.5%), Disperse Orange 3 (8.4%) and p-aminophenol (3.1%). Among the 544 patients tested with p-p…

Diagnostic Performance of an Artificial Intelligence System in Breast Ultrasound.

2021

Objectives We study the performance of an artificial intelligence (AI) program designed to assist radiologists in the diagnosis of breast cancer, relative to measures obtained from conventional readings by radiologists. Methods A total of 10 radiologists read a curated, anonymized group of 299 breast ultrasound images that contained at least one suspicious lesion and for which a final diagnosis was independently determined. Separately, the AI program was initialized by a lead radiologist and the computed results compared against those of the radiologists. Results The AI program's diagnoses of breast lesions had concordance with the 10 radiologists' readings across a number of BI-RADS descri…

Persistence or change in leisure-time physical activity habits and waist gain during early adulthood: A twin-study

2014

Objective To determine the relationship between persistence or change in leisure-time physical activity habits and waist gain among young adults. Methods Population-based cohort study among 3383 Finnish twin individuals (1578 men) from five birth cohorts (1975-1979), who answered questionnaires at mean ages of 24.4 y (SD 0.9) and 33.9 y (SD 1.2), with reported self-measured waist circumference. Persistence or change in leisure-time physical activity habits was defined based on thirds of activity metabolic equivalent h/day during follow-up (mean 9.5 y; SD 0.7). Results Decreased activity was linked to greater waist gain compared to increased activity (3.6 cm, P < 0.001 for men; 3.1 cm, P < 0…

Analysis of interobserver variability for endomicroscopy of the gastrointestinal tract

2014

a b s t r a c t Background: Endomicroscopy allows in vivo microscopic investigation of enteral mucosa during endo- scopic examinations. The aim of this study was to determine interobserver variability in the evaluation of endomicroscopic pictures of several organs by groups of investigators composed of confocal experts, pathologists and students. Methods: Twenty-five selected representative endomicroscopic pictures of the colon, stomach and oesophagus (total number, 75) were evaluated based on tissue, inflammatory and neoplastic changes (secondary endpoints). The endomicroscopic presence of neoplastic features was the primary endpoint and correlated with the final histological diagnosis. Re…

Reproducibility and concordance of 4 clinically developed programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) immunohistochemistry (IHC) assays in triple-negative brea…

2020

Abstract Background Atezolizumab (an anti–PD-L1 antibody) has shown clinical activity alone or in combination with nab-paclitaxel in patients (pts) with first-line metastatic TNBC who have PD-L1 expression on their tumour-infiltrating immune cells (IC). We analysed the performance of 4 PD-L1 IHC assays for PD-L1 IC expression in TNBC. Methods Thirty archival TNBC tissue specimens were selected from a set of 107 based on PD-L1 IC expression per VENTANA SP142 ( 5%: 8 cases), to represent the distribution of PD-L1 IC–positivity in the pivotal atezolizumab studies (Emens et al., SABCS 2018; JAMA Oncol 2019). Serial histologic sections were stained with VENTANA SP142 and SP263, and DAKO 22C3 and…

Panintestinal capsule endoscopy in patients with celiac disease

2021

INTRODUCTION Capsule endoscopy has proven its utility in diagnosing villous atrophy and lymphoma in patients with celiac disease. Recently, a novel capsule endoscopy system was introduced which enables the examination of the small and large bowel. So far, it has not been evaluated in patients with celiac disease. OBJECTIVE The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the novel panintestinal capsule endoscopy system in patients with celiac disease. METHODS Eleven patients with histologically proven celiac disease (Marsh 0-IV), who underwent a panintestinal capsule endoscopy between March 2018 and April 2019 at our institution, were included in this retrospective single-center study. A…

Reliability of iCare ic100 Rebound Tonometry and Agreement With Goldmann Applanation Tonometry in Healthy and Post-myopic LASIK Patients.

2021

Rebound tonometry offers excellent reliability for obtaining intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements in healthy and post-myopic laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) patients regardless of corneal parameters and axial length and regardless of the instillation of ocular topical anesthesia. The purpose of this study was to assess the reliability of rebound tonometry, its agreement with Goldmann applanation tonometry (GAT) and its concordance after topical anesthesia in a group of nonoperated healthy patients and a group of post-myopic LASIK patients.Fifty-four patients were included in this prospective observational, case-control study. Patients were divided into 2 groups: control (n=3…
