Application of Molecular Topology to the Prediction of the Reaction Yield and Anticancer Activity of Imidazole and Guanidine Derivatives
2013
In this study molecular topology based QSAR has been applied to predict the reaction yield and anticancer activity of 18 imidazole and guanidine derivatives. Four properties were evaluated, namely reaction yield, anti prostatic-cancer activity, anti breast-cancer activity and anti lung-cancer activity. The four models have been validated by both internal and cross validation, and also by randomness tests. The results obtained are in full agreement with the experimental results and confirm the precision, accuracy and robustness of the method followed. After carrying out a virtual screening upon such models, new imidazole and guanidine derivatives with potential anticancer activity are propos…
Struktur-Wirkungs-Beziehungen bei Histaminanaloga, 21. Mitt. Synthese und Wirkung Nα-substituierter Histamine
1980
Es wurden Nα-substituierte Histamine dargestellt und auf ihre agonistische Wirkung an Histamin H1- und H2-Rezeptoren untersucht. Structure-Activity Relationships of Histamine Analogues, XXI: Synthesis and Pharmacology of Nα-Substituted Histamines Nα-Substituted histamines were synthesized and investigated with regard to their agonistic activity at histamine H1 and H2 receptors.
The bleaching efficacy of carbamide peroxide gels containing potassium nitrate desensitizer
2020
Background To evaluate the bleaching efficacy of at-home carbamide peroxide (CP) gels in two concentrations, containing or not a desensitizing agent. Material and methods Forty incisors were divided into four groups (n=10), according to gel concentrations (10% or 22%), and presence or not of 3% potassium nitrate in the gel. A thin layer of gel was applied to the buccal surface of each tooth for 2h/day for 4 weeks. Bleaching efficacy was measured using a spectrophotometer, and ∆E*ab, ∆E00 and ∆WID were calculated. Measurements were performed at baseline, 7, 14, 21, 28, and 35 days following the first gel application. Data were analyzed by two-way RM-ANOVA and Tukey's test (α=0.05). Results R…
Come ripensare l’educazione familiare
2018
The psycho-social investigations carried out in our country emphasize that nowadays children are ever more alone: only child families increase and their children grow up without brothers, sisters, and cousins; furthermore, there is an increase of family instability and a procrastination of parental transition. In addition, procreation control and planning (e.g.: by medically assisted fertilization) have created a more adored than loved child. We witness a real mythologizing of childhood; this new concept of childhood has changed educational relationships within the family, which presents unexampled fragilities and different questions than the ones in the past. Many parents feel their educat…
Utilizing content analysis in teaching materials for children with autism spectrum disorder
2019
It is important to look at how education materials for students with disability view disability itself. Raising the general public's awareness on autism is crucial because of the rise in the antivaxx and anti-science movements, particularly in the United States. This thesis utilizes Content Analysis to explore how a set of teaching materials for students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) understands ASD and the agency of the ASD child and creates trust with the readers. I analyze two argumentation styles to understand how those forms of argumentation create trust with the readers. This study is qualitative and relies on philosophical and cultural definitions of agency and personhood. In a…
Phenazine antibiotics produced by fluorescent pseudomonads contribute to natural soil suppressiveness to Fusarium wilt
2009
Natural disease-suppressive soils provide an untapped resource for the discovery of novel beneficial microorganisms and traits. For most suppressive soils, however, the consortia of microorganisms and mechanisms involved in pathogen control are unknown. To date, soil suppressiveness to Fusarium wilt disease has been ascribed to carbon and iron competition between pathogenic Fusarium oxysporum and resident non-pathogenic F. oxysporum and fluorescent pseudomonads. In this study, the role of bacterial antibiosis in Fusarium wilt suppressiveness was assessed by comparing the densities, diversity and activity of fluorescent Pseudomonas species producing 2,4-diacetylphloroglucinol (DAPG) (phlD+) …

Policy Makers', NGO, and Healthcare Workers' Accounts of Migrants' and Refugees' Healthcare Access Across Europe : Human Rights and Citizenship Based…
2020
Freely available healthcare, universally accessible to the population of citizens, is a key ideal for European welfare systems. As labor migration of the twentieth century gave way to the globalized streams of the twenty-first century, new challenges to fulfilling these ideals have emerged. The principle of freedom of movement, together with large-scale forced migration have led to large scale movements of people, making new demands on European healthcare systems which had previously been largely focused on meeting sedentary local populations' needs. Drawing on interviews with service providers working for NGOs and public healthcare systems and with policy makers across 10 European countrie…
Recognition and Civic Selection
2021
Large-scale immigration and the refugee crisis have caused many states to adapt ever stricter civic selection processes. This paper discusses the challenges arising from civic selection from the perspective of recognition theories. The argument is that recognition theories provide good conceptual tools with which to critically analyze civic selection and immigration. However, the paper also aims to highlight that many current institutional practices are problematic from the perspective of recognition. In the context of civic selection, it is helpful to understand recognition as something that comes in two analytically distinct modes: horizontal (or interpersonal) and vertical (or institutio…
