Conservative treatment of ectopic pregnancies using a single echo-guided injection of methotrexate into the gestational sac
1991
The authors describe the possibility of the conservative treatment of five early ectopic pregnancies. A single injection of methotrexate into the tubal gestational sac was performed under vaginal ultrasound guidance. In all five cases, a clear ectopic gestational sac could be visualized. The pregnancies dated from the 5th to the 7th week of amenorrhea. Strict ultrasound follow-up following injection showed a gradual reduction in the size of the tubal gestational sac. At the same time, plasma beta-hCG gradually decreased to zero after a maximum time period of 25 days. Subsequent hysterosalpingography performed on all of the women demonstrated bilateral normal patent tubes. It is concluded th…
Control of freshwater fish louse Argulus coregoni: a step towards an integrated management strategy
2008
Harmful infections by ectoparasites of the genus Argulus occur repeatedly in freshwa- ter fish farming operations where the management has largely been ineffective. Preventative meth- ods and regular monitoring are rarely applied, so that chemical interventions become necessary. According to the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approach, a sustainable management or control program for a parasite should be based on knowledge of the ecology of the parasite along with adop- tion of several prevention and control methods, the application of which is dependent upon the pre- vailing infection level. The application of multiple management tactics is especially important because parasites can devel…
The Fibril-associated Collagen IX Provides a Novel Mechanism for Cell Adhesion to Cartilaginous Matrix
2004
Collagen IX is the prototype fibril-associated collagen with interruptions in triple helix. In human cartilage it covers collagen fibrils, but its putative cellular receptors have been unknown. The reverse transcription-PCR analysis of human fetal tissues suggested that based on their distribution all four collagen receptor integrins, namely alpha1beta1, alpha2beta1, alpha10beta1, and alpha11beta1, are possible receptors for collagen IX. Furthermore primary chondrocytes and chondrosarcoma cells express the four integrins simultaneously. Chondrosarcoma cells, as well as Chinese hamster ovary cells transfected to express alpha1beta1, alpha2beta1, or alpha10beta1 integrin as their only collage…
Esineiden Internet – nykyajan ja tulevaisuuden ongelmia sekä ratkaisuja kyberturvallisuuden näkökulmasta
2017
Kyberturvallisuus on hyvin tärkeä osa nykyaikaista yhteiskuntaa, sillä suuri osa toiminnastamme, esimerkiksi monissa palveluissa asiointi, tapahtuu Internetin tai muun verkoston kautta. Esineiden Internet on seuraava askel digitaaliselle yhteiskunnalle, jossa perinteisten tietokoneiden lisäksi myös muutkin arkipäiväiset laitteet yhdistetään verkkoon. Esineiden Internet kuitenkin eroa perinteisestä Internetistä monessa mielessä, ja näin ollen sen myöskin sen turvallisuuden toteuttamisessa eivät kaikki perinteiset ratkaisut toimi samalla tavalla. Tämän tutkielman tarkoituksena on käydä läpi Esineiden Internetin kyberturvallisuuden, ja jossain määrin fyysinen turvallisuuden, tilannetta tällä h…
Dinitrosyl-iron triggers apoptosis in Jurkat cells despite overexpression of Bcl-2
2004
Cells expressing the cytokine-inducible NO synthase are known to trigger apoptosis in neighboring cells. Paramagnetic dinitrosyl nonheme iron complexes (DNIC) were found in tumor tissue about 40 years ago; however, the role of these NO(+)-bearing species is not completely understood. In the human Jurkat leukemia cell line, the application of the model complex DNIC-thiosulfate (50-200 microM) induced apoptosis (defined by phosphatidylserine externalization) in a concentration- and time-dependent manner. In Jurkat cells, the pan-caspase inhibitor, zVADfmk (50 microM), and/or stable transfection of antiapoptotic protein, Bcl-2, was unable to afford protection against DNIC-induced apoptosis. Th…
Le silence des mots pour dire la barbarie terroriste : le pari esthétique et éthique de Jaime Rosales dans Tiro en la cabeza (2008)
2017
This article questions the aesthetic and ethical values of silence in Tiro en la cabeza (Bullet in the Head, 2008), a film without dialogue or music in which the Spanish director Jaime Rosales recreates the circumstances of an unplanned attack of Basque terrorist organization ETA.

A region on human chromosome 4 (q35.1→qter) induces senescence in cell hybrids and is involved in cervical carcinogenesis
2005
Human papillomavirus (HPV) types 16 and 18 are known to play a major role in cervical carcinogenesis. Additional genetic alterations are required for the development and progression of cervical cancer. Previously, we showed that the introduction of an entire human chromosome 4 into HPV-immortalized cells by microcell-mediated chromosome transfer (MMCT) can induce senescence in cell hybrids. In the present study, we established eight new murine donor cell lines harboring different fragments of the human chromosome 4. These were tested for their ability to induce senescence by MMCT into HPV16-immortalized keratinocytes (HPK II) and cervical carcinoma cells (HeLa). By exclusion, we could ident…
A chematoxonomic review of the subtribe crepidinase based on its phenol constituents
1994
Abstract The chemotaxonomical significance of flavonoids, phenolic acids and coumarins from 20 species, belonging to eight genera of the subtribe Crepidinae (family Compositae), is discussed. The content in phenolic compounds of three species of Lactuca (L. tenerrima, L. virosa and L. muralis ) is reported for the first time.
