Urban densities and economic analyse of residentials choices

2016

The thesis is focused on urban growth control challenge through the Compact City model and its key spatial characteristic: the density. This work deals both with a theoretical, methodological and empirical approach. First, we place ourselves in the theoretical framework of Urban Economic addressing agents’ location choices. We mobilize these theories to identify the key determinants of residential location (employment center, spatial amenities, housing’s service) and analyze the spatial organization that follows (dense or spread). This literature leads us to consider different types of density: structural density, population density and social density. This thesis highlights various methodo…

Residential satisfaction and spatial configurations in a periurban area

2011

Since the 1960s, French cities are concerned with an urban sprawl process. This urban sprawl leads to the emergence of a particular space located at the interface between the city and the countryside: the periurban. The social, morphological or the spatial practices of its inhabitants give the suburban a particular singularity and specificity. It is a space of contradiction that attracts both because of the "natural" living environment that it provides to households, but also because of its proximity to the city and the opportunities related to accessibility to various urban amenities. To understand more precisely this enthusiasm for periurban areas, this thesis proposes to explore the indiv…

Old or new occupants of energy rehabilitated buildings. Two different approaches for hierarchizing group of buildings

2017

Abstract Public Administrations are frequently entitled to intervene in building stocks with energy rehabilitation actions. Unfortunately, the monetary budget at their disposal is generally limited and, consequently, a prioritization criterion is needed to optimize its allocation. The classification of the building energy performance is increasingly used by Public Administrations for this purpose. Here we argue that a proper prioritization criterion should depend upon the potential subjects to which the rehabilitated buildings are given back. If the energy rehabilitation is conducted on buildings that will be assigned to new dwellers, it would be preferable to use the energy class – which i…

Absolute Risk and Loss-of-Lifetime Estimates for Quantitative Risk Assessment

1998

Quantitative risk assessments in public health settings intend to describe the hazard of a specific exposure in a given population on the basis of epidemiological and/or experimental results. Two different risk quantities, the absolute lifetime excess risk and the loss-of-lifetime, which differ in their definition of hazard, are discussed and compared. For both measures estimation procedures are derived and the relationship between the various estimates which are currently in use are investigated. It is shown that the two most common estimators can be written as special cases of a more general concept. This leads to conclusions about the assumptions on which different estimation procedures …

Assessing uncertainty of voter transitions estimated from aggregated data. Application to the 2017 French presidential election

2020

[EN] Inferring electoral individual behaviour from aggregated data is a very active research area, with ramifications in sociology and political science. A new approach based on linear programming is proposed to estimate voter transitions among parties (or candidates) between two elections. Compared to other linear and quadratic programming models previously published, our approach presents two important innovations. Firstly, it explicitly deals with new entries and exits in the election census without assuming unrealistic hypotheses, enabling a reasonable estimation of vote behaviour of young electors voting for the first time. Secondly, by exploiting the information contained in the model…

Modèle de simulation à double-agent du processus de développement résidentiel : une approche institutionnelle pour expliquer la forme spatiale des dé…

2013

This thesis presents PARDISIM, a simulation model that takes an institutionaleconomic approach in the simulation of the residential development process.Rather then modelling the residential development as the result of locationchoices at household level, PARDISIM focusses on the objectives and interac-tions of development actors. The idea behind this approach is that developmentactors, including public planning authorities, play an important role in the pro-cess of residential development. The model is top-down whereas the most recentefforts by other scholars focus instead on a bottom-up approach. Initial testingshows that PARDISIM is capable of producing realistic spatial patterns.

Italian survey on the residents' surgical level in gynecology and obstetrics

2020

Purpose: The present study aims to investigate the number of surgical procedures performed by Italian residents and their confidence to carry out different surgeries in obstetrics and gynecology. Methods: The present study is a national survey including all Italian gynecology and obstetrics senior residents. A questionnaire including 25 questions was provided. The free Google Forms site was used to create the survey. The study was conducted from April to October 2019. The survey started from the University Hospital of Parma, a tertiary hospital, and was sent to all the Italian post-graduation medical school in gynecology and obstetrics. An e-mail was sent to all representative residents in …

Unintended Effects of Energy Efficiency Policy: Lessons Learned in the Residential Sector

2021

The European Union has set an ambitious goal to tackle climate change, and energy efficiency in the residential sector is among the measures required to close the gap between targeted and actual greenhouse gas emissions. While different policy tools have been applied, the diffusion rate of these measures remains low. A system dynamics simulation model of the residential sector was developed to assess the advantages and drawbacks of energy efficiency policy in the multi-family building sector based on experience accumulated over the last twelve years in Latvia. The model was validated in expert group model building sessions and with historical trends. Simulating the model, a hypothesis was t…

How Can the COVID-19 Pandemic Lead to Positive Changes in Urology Residency?

2020

The COVID-19 outbreak, in a few weeks, overloaded Italian hospitals, and the majority of medical procedures were postponed. During the pandemic, with hospital reorganization, clinical and learning activities performed by residents suffered a forced remodulation. The objective of this study is to investigate how urology training in Italy has been affected during the COVID-19 era. In this multi-academic study, we compared residents' training during the highest outbreak level with their previous activity. Overall 387 (67.1%) of the 577 Italian Urology residents participated in a 72-h anonymous online survey with 36 items sent via email. The main outcomes were clinical/surgical activities, soci…

"Make America Great Again" : a rhetorical analysis of campaign and presidential speeches by Donald Trump in 2016-2017

2018

Tutkielman aineisto koostui kuudesta Donald Trumpin pitämästä virallisesta puheesta ajalta 31.8.2016-28.2.2017. Tulosten perusteella voidaan systemaattises…
