Microparticles Harboring Sonic Hedgehog Morphogen Improve the Vasculogenesis Capacity of Endothelial Progenitor Cells Derived from Myocardial Infarct…
2019
Endothelial progenitor cells (EPC) play a role in endothelium integrity maintenance and regeneration. Decreased numbers of EPC or their impaired function correlates with an increase in cardiovascular events. Thus, EPC are important predictors of cardiovascular mortality and morbidity. Microparticles carrying Sonic hedgehog (Shh) morphogen (MPShhþ) trigger pro-angiogenic responses, both in endothelial cells and in ischaemic rodent models. Here, we propose that MPShhþ regulates EPC function, thus enhancing vasculogenesis, and correcting the defects in dysfunctional EPC obtained from acute myocardial infarction (AMI) patients.

THE ROLE OF THROMBIN IN CENTRAL NERVOUS SYSTEM ACTIVITY AND STROKE
2018
Background. Thrombin is a key factor of hemostasis, mediating the conversion of fibrinogen into fibrin. Along with prothrombin, of which thrombin is the active derivative, it has been found locally expressed in the central nervous system. This article aims to describe the role of thrombin in the normal functioning of the central nervous system and stroke.Methods. In this mini-review, the specialized databases Medscape, PubMed, and Web of Science, from the years 2003-2018, were used to find relevant documents by using MeSH terms: ”thrombin” and ”stroke”.Results. Prothrombin and thrombin influence neural development, protection and regeneration, thrombin being a relatively strong regulating f…
Associations of cardiometabolic risk factors with heart rate variability in 6‐ to 8‐year‐old children : The PANIC Study
2020
Background Associations of cardiometabolic risk factors with heart rate variability (HRV) in children are unclear. We examined associations of cardiometabolic risk score (CRS) and individual cardiometabolic risk factors with HRV variables in 6‐ to 8‐year‐olds. Methods The participants were a population‐based sample of 443 children participating in baseline measurements of the Physical Activity and Nutrition in Children trial. Cardiometabolic risk factors included waist circumference (WC), insulin, glucose, triglycerides, HDL cholesterol, systolic blood pressure (SBP), and diastolic blood pressure (DBP). CRS was calculated as WC + insulin + glucose + triglycerides − HDL cholesterol + the mea…

When the Pd/Pa Is Already Significant: A “Quick and Clean” FFR
2016
The assessment of FFR for a single stenosis may also be rapid and not require hyperemia if the Pd/Pa gradient already reaches significance before the vasodilator is administered. In this case the resting Pd/Pa was 0.45, demonstrating that the stenosis was relevant even before hyperemia was achieved.
Influence of anxiety and anesthetic vasoconstrictors upon hemodynamic parameters during dental procedures in controlled hypertensive and non-hyperten…
2020
Background To determine the influence of dental anxiety and the vasoconstrictor used in local anesthesia upon different hemodynamic parameters - systolic (SBP) and diastolic blood pressure (DBP), heart rate (HR) and peripheral oxygen saturation (SatO2) - during dental extraction and oral hygiene. The safety of local anesthesia with vasoconstrictor in patients with medically controlled hypertension was also assessed. Material and methods A total of 159 patients were divided into two groups according to the dental treatment received: tooth extraction (n = 106) and oral hygiene (n = 53). The hemodynamic parameters (SBP, DBP, HR and SatO2) were recorded throughout dental treatment. Patient anxi…

Structural dissection of the multidomain kininogens. Fine mapping of the target epitopes of antibodies interfering with their functional properties.
1993
Kininogens, the large precursor molecules of the vasoactive kinin peptides, are prototypic multidomain proteins serving numerous functions. To investigate their structure-function relationships, we have raised a panel of monoclonal antibodies against human H-kininogen and L-kininogen and fragments thereof and characterized them with respect to their target epitopes. Of 35 antibodies, 12 were directed to the amino-terminal domains (D1 to D3) of cystatin-like structure, 3 recognized domain D4 bearing the kinin segment, 17 bound to the carboxyl-terminal domains of H-kininogen (D5H and D6H), and 3 bound to the carboxyl-terminal domain D5L of L-kininogen. At least 14 distinct epitopes spread ove…
