Template electrosyntesis of CeO2 nanotubes

Nanotube arrays of CeO2 were produced in a single step by potentiostatic electrochemical deposition from a non-aqueous electrolyte, using anodic alumina membrane templates. The CeO2 nanotubes showed a polycrystalline structure, and they were assembled in the membrane nanochannels. The nanotubes had somewhat uniform diameters, with an average external value of about 210 nm, and a maximum length of about 60 µm; the latter parameter was controlled by the electrodeposition time. Each single nanotube was found to consist of crystalline grains having a size of about 3 nm. Raman analysis shows that these CeO2 nanotubes are suitable for catalytic applications.

Remark on a nonlocal isoperimetric problem

Abstract We consider isoperimetric problem with a nonlocal repulsive term given by the Newtonian potential. We prove that regular critical sets of the functional are analytic. This optimal regularity holds also for critical sets of the Ohta–Kawasaki functional. We also prove that when the strength of the nonlocal part is small the ball is the only possible stable critical set.

Role of triaxiality in the ground-state shape of neutron-rich Yb, Hf, W, Os and Pt isotopes

The evolution of the ground-state shape of several isotopes of Yb, Hf, W, Os and Pt along the triaxial landscape is analyzed using the self-consistent Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov approximation. Two well-reputed interactions (Gogny D1S and Skyrme SLy4) have been used in the study in order to assess to which extent the results are independent of the details of the effective interaction. A large number of even-even nuclei, with neutron numbers from N = 110 up to N = 122, have been considered, covering in this way a vast extension of the nuclear landscape where signatures of oblate-prolate shape transitions have already manifested both theoretically and experimentally.
Lambda(1405) poles obtained from pi(0)Sigma(0) photoproduction data

We present a strategy to extract the position of the two Lambda(1405) poles from experimental photoproduction data measured recently at different energies in the gamma p -> K+pi(0)Sigma(0) reaction at Jefferson Laboratory. By means of a chiral dynamics motivated potential with free parameters, we solve the Bethe-Salpeter equation in the coupled channels (K) over barN and pi Sigma in isospin I = 0 and parametrize the amplitude for the photonuclear reaction in terms of a linear combination of the pi Sigma -> pi Sigma and (K) over barN -> pi Sigma scattering amplitudes in I = 0, with a different linear combination for each energy. Collectivity in ${}^{\mathrm{196,198}}$Pb isotopes probed in Coulomb-excitation experiments at REX-ISOLDE

The neutron-deficient ${}^{\mathrm{196,198}}$Pb isotopes have been studied in Coulomb-excitation experiments employing the Miniball γ-ray spectrometer and radioactive ion beams from the REX-ISOLDE post-accelerator at CERN. The reduced transition probabilities of the first excited 2+ states in 196Pb and 198Pb nuclei have been measured for the first time. Values of $B(E2)={18.2}_{-4.1}^{+4.8}$ W.u. and $B(E2)={13.1}_{-3.5}^{+4.9}$ W.u., were obtained, respectively. Abstract Digital pulse processing (DPP) systems, based on direct digitizing and processing of detector signals, have recently been favoured over analog electronics, ensuring higher flexibility, stability, lower dead time and better spectroscopic performance. In this work, we present the performance of a new real time DPP system for X-ray and gamma ray semiconductor detectors. The system is based on a commercial digitizer equipped with a custom DPP firmware, developed by our group, for on-line pulse height and shape analysis. Development of economic MeV-ion microbeam technology at Chiang Mai University

Abstract Developing high technologies but in economic manners is necessary and also feasible for developing countries. At Chiang Mai University, Thailand, we have developed MeV-ion microbeam technology based on a 1.7-MV Tandetron tandem accelerator with our limited resources in a cost-effective manner. Instead of using expensive and technically complex electrostatic or magnetic quadrupole focusing lens systems, we have developed cheap MeV-ion microbeams using programmed L-shaped blade aperture and capillary techniques for MeV ion beam lithography or writing and mapping.
