Iodine on a magnetized iron film evidence for a magnetic coupling

Abstract Spin-resolved photoelectron spectra of iodine chemisorbed on a magnetized iron (110) surface have been taken using unpolarized VUV light. The partial spin spectra reveal the I 5p x and 5p z signals being split by up to 0.35 eV. This exchange splitting occurs due to hybridization of adsorbate and substrate bands as a consequence of the chemical bond of the halogen atoms to the iron surface.

Entanglement swapping in a Franson interferometer setup

We propose a simple scheme to swap the non local correlations, characteristic of a Franson interferometric setup, between pairs of frequency entangled photons emitted by distinct non linear crystals in a parametric down conversion process. Our scheme consists of two distinct sources of frequency entangled photons. One photon of each pair is sent to a separate Mach - Zender interferometer while the other photons of the pairs are mixed by a beam splitter and then detected in a Ou - Mandel interferometer. Optical module for single-shot quantitative phase imaging based on the transport of intensity equation with field of view multiplexing

We present a cost-effective, simple, and robust method that enables single-shot quantitative phase imaging (QPI) based on the transport of intensity equation (TIE) using an add-on optical module that can be assembled into the exit port of any regular microscope. The module integrates a beamsplitter (BS) cube (placed in a non-conventional way) for duplicating the output image onto the digital sensor (field of view – FOV – multiplexing), a Stokes lens (SL) for astigmatism compensation (introduced by the BS cube), and an optical quality glass plate over one of the FOV halves for defocusing generation (needed for single-shot TIE algorithm). Single-shot slightly off-axis digital holographic microscopy with add-on module based on beamsplitter cube

Slightly off-axis digital holographic microscopy (SO-DHM) has recently emerged as a novel experimental arrangement for quantitative phase imaging (QPI). It offers improved capabilities in conventional on-axis and off-axis interferometric configurations. In this contribution, we report on a single-shot SO-DHM approach based on an add-on module adapted to the exit port of a regular microscope. The module employs a beamsplitter (BS) cube interferometer and includes, in addition, a Stokes lens (SL) for astigmatism compensation. Elimination of unitarily nonequivalent vacua in supersymmetric grand unified theories by gravity

Abstract In globally supersymmetric grand unified theories, there may be unitarily nonequivalent vacua which are not present in ordinary theories, reflecting the invariance of the Higgs potential under the complex extension of the gauge group. We show that such vacua are eliminated in the presence of N = 1 supergravity coupling, if local supersymmetry is broken and the costomological constant vanishes.

Many extensions of the Standard Model posit the existence of heavy particles with long lifetimes. This article presents the results of a search for events containing at least one long-lived particle that decays at a significant distance from its production point into two leptons or into five or more charged particles. This analysis uses a data sample of proton-proton collisions at root s = 8 TeV corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.3 fb(-1) collected in 2012 by the ATLAS detector operating at the Large Hadron Collider. Production and decays of supersymmetric Higgs bosons in spontaneously brokenRparity

We study the mass spectra, production and decay properties of the lightest supersymmetric CP-even and CP-odd Higgs bosons in models with spontaneously broken R-parity (SBRP). We compare the resulting mass spectra with expectations of the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM), stressing that the model obeys the upper bound on the lightest CP-even Higgs boson mass. We discuss how the presence of the additional scalar singlet states affects the Higgs production cross sections, both for the Bjorken process and the "associated production". Search for Stopped Gluinos frompp¯Collisions ats=1.96  TeV

Long-lived, heavy particles are predicted in a number of models beyond the standard model of particle physics. We present the first direct search for such particles' decays, occurring up to 100 h after their production and not synchronized with an accelerator bunch crossing. We apply the analysis to the gluino (g), predicted in split supersymmetry, which after hadronization can become charged and lose enough momentum through ionization to come to rest in dense particle detectors.
