Reduced reflex sensitivity persists several days after long-lasting stretch-shortening cycle exercise

The mechanisms related to the acute and delayed secondary impairment of the stretch reflex function were investigated after long-lasting stretch-shortening cycle exercise. The results demonstrated a clear deterioration in muscle function immediately after fatigue, which was accompanied by a clear reduction in active and passive reflex sensitivity. For active and passive stretch reflexes, this reduction was biphasic ( P < 0.05 to P < 0.001). Statin use and non-alcoholic steatohepatitis in at risk individuals.

Background & Aims Excess hepatic free cholesterol contributes to the pathogenesis of non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and statins reduce cholesterol synthesis. Aim of this study was to assess whether statin use is associated with histological liver damage related to steatohepatitis. Methods The relationship between statin use, genetic risk factors, and liver damage was assessed in a multi-center cohort of 1201 European individuals, who underwent liver biopsy for suspected non-alcoholic steatohepatitis. To determine the effects of beta-adrenergic stimulation on transmitral Doppler echocardiography flow characteristics of left ventricular diastolic filling, we studied 10 healthy volunteers aged 23-31 years (mean age, 26.6 years) during intravenous infusion of isoprenaline in consecutive steps of 0.1, 0.2, 0.4, 0.75, and 1.5 micrograms/min (each for 15 min). Stability and prediction of physical activity in 5-, 10-, and 28-year follow-up studies among industrial employees.

The aim of the study was to examine the stability of voluntary and household physical activity (PA) and to compare it with that of the use of the most common stimulants. The prospective cohort study comprised of follow-ups at 5, 10, and 28 years at baseline in 1973 in four plants of an industrial corporation in Finland. Modeling the impact of soft tissue on axial transmission measurements of ultrasonic guided waves in human radius

Recent in vitro and simulation studies have shown that guided waves measured at low ultrasound frequencies (f=200 kHz) can characterize both material properties and geometry of the cortical bone wall.
