AULAS DE ECODISEÑO: ANÁLISIS DE CICLO DE VIDA Y ECODISEÑO EN LA INDUSTRIA
2011
This paper shows the work made by the Ecodesign Learning Centre of Engineering School at the University of the Basque Country and at Mondragon University. Some engineering students have carried out Life Cycle Assessment, Ecodesign and applied research projects in some Basque Companies. One of those projects consisted in a Life cycle assessment of a hydraulic press. The aim of this project was to point out some improvement measures to be used in future designs of machine tools. That kind of products will soon be affected by the Energy using Products Directive. In another project, an environmental product declaration was made for a radio controlled electronic lock. The last project which is p…
A preliminary method for the numerical prediction of the behavior of air bubbles in the design of Air Cavity Ships
2016
Air-cavity ships (ACS) are advanced marine vehicles that use air injection under hull to improve the vessel’s hydrodynamic characteristics. Although the concept of drag reduction by supplying gas under the ship’s bottom was proposed in the 19th century by Froude and Laval, at this time there are not many systematic studies on this subject. This paper is a preliminary work with the purpose of being a basic tool for the design of the ACS with computational fluid dynamic methods. The study aims to conduct a series of computational tests to compare the numerical models of bubble with experimental data. The first step of this study was to investigate the behavior of free bubble in water, conside…
Experimental EMF characterization of a secondary substation
2015
This paper presents the results of the experimental EMC characterization of a new medium/low voltage (MV/LV) secondary substation, which was developed in the framework of the research project "NEW CAB ELARC". It has two MV/LV transformers, with total rated power of 1000 kVA. To perform the experimental characterization, firstly an analysis was performed of the Italian and European standards recommendations. Different approaches were highlighted and the most appropriate procedures were identified for the measurement of the magnetic fields emissions, at power systems frequency (50 Hz) in steady-state conditions. A dedicated test lab was set up for the secondary substation characterization. Th…
eCity: Virtual City Environment for Engineering Problem Based Learning
2015
The main objective of the eCITY project is to design, develop and validate a pedagogical methodology, supported by an online, collaborative, city-development simulation engine (Simcity like) that stimulates the integration and continuous exploitation of Problem-Based Learning (PBL) in engineering and science schools but, at the same time, fostering the interest for these orientations in secondary school students. Interactive Tools for the Visualization of Tangible and Intangible Silk Heritage Emerging from an Interdisciplinary Work
2021
Silk is a unique example of heritage where memory, identity, creativity and knowledge can be found in just one piece. It is a multifaceted, living heritage, as it consists of more than the fabrics themselves, but also the techniques associated with them, historical buildings, trades, festivities, etc. Therefore, designers, weavers, painters, sellers and users are involved in it. However, it is also a fragile heritage, alive in the few industries that still weave with historical looms. Additionally, the COVID19 pandemic has put the entire artisanal and small industrial sector of European silk in risk of disappearing. In this, paper we show some results of the SILKNOW project, whose main obje…
Workshop: iPads in Upper Secondary School Chemistry Education
2014
At the workshop arranged at the National Days of Chemical Education the participants had an opportunity to try out various Ipad apps and methods for utilizing them in chemistry education. The themes were based on the apps used during chemistry teacher education course arranged by the department of chemistry and methods developed on the teacher training school at the University of Jyväskylä. The apps used included Socrative Student, Google Drive, Graphical Analysis, ChemDoodle ja QR-reader. Out of these Socratice, which collects students answers to questions created by the teacher, was considered easy-to-use and the most useful by the participants. The participants also felt, that the worksh…
Analysis of the Motor Vehicles Manufacturing Sector in Cataluña: Implementation with Radar Charts
2013
The representation of the average periods of maturation in the axes of a radial chart allows us to know the financial position reached by companies at the end of an economic year or in a certain period. The angular indicators obtained from the application of the cosine and sine theorems, according to plane geometry principles verify the deduction obtained from the observation of the radial chart and establish whether the result of each management areas displayed offers liquidez to the developed trading activity, or it is the financial positions regardless trading activity the ones which verifies the displayed financial position in the radial chart. The indicated ratio explains why companies…
Sparsity-aware narrowband interference mitigation and subcarriers selection in OFDM-based cognitive radio networks
2016
In this paper, the performance of an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing overlay cognitive radio network with subcarrier selection schemes is investigated. We propose three subcarrier selection techniques that reduce the level of interference at the primary base station based on collected channel state information from the different network nodes. Approximated outage probability expressions are also derived and verified by simulations for the different studied techniques. In addition, we propose and investigate a new approach for asynchronous narrowband interference (NBI) estimation and mitigation in cognitive radio networks. The proposed approach does not require prior knowledge of …
A Sparsity-Aware Approach for NBI Estimation and Mitigation in Large Cognitive Radio Networks
2016
Underlay cognitive networks should follow strict interference thresholds to operate in parallel with primary networks. This constraint limits their transmission power and eventually the coverage area. Therefore, in this paper, we first design a new approach for asynchronous narrow-band interference (NBI) estimation and mitigation in orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing cognitive radio networks that does not require prior knowledge of the NBI characteristics. Our proposed approach allows the primary user to exploit the sparsity of the secondary users' interference signal to recover it and cancel it based on sparse signal recovery theory. We also propose two subcarrier selection schemes…
Preventing early leaving in VET: distributed pedagogical leadership in characterising five types of successful organisations
2010
This paper presents 14 organisers of upper secondary education in Finland with exceptionally low dropout rates. As a case study in which common strengths were defined, five types of organisations with typical characteristics were found: Working life‐oriented, Networked and team‐based, Cosy and traditional, Guidance‐oriented, and Innovative. Distributed pedagogical leadership (DPL) was created as the theoretical basis from which organisational actions were examined. DPL implies that responsibility for students’ learning is shared by the whole personnel, through long‐term and systematic pedagogical practices. For this purpose, the management and leadership, curriculum, strategies, development…
