In the spring of 1947, the ‘Venetian’ architect took part in the competition, organized by the Municipality of Venice, for a series of houses to be built in the north and south estuary of the Venetian lagoon, obtaining the first and second prize, both ex aequo, with projects for residences proposals in Burano and Pellestrina. In these two unbuilt works, we can trace some important methodological aspects about the approach to the project by the architect who will make Venice the city subject of her later studies.

The study focuses on the use of 3D surveying and digital representation tools for the purpose of documenting archaeological monuments whose restoration involves the disassembly and repositioning of blocks. The case study in question is a building at the west end of the San Biagio archaic sanctuary, located within the archaeological site of Agrigento. The monument is a rectangular building encompassing two pools, whose foundations are suffering from deep decay and there are large spaces between the walls which have become disconnected. Il testo affronta lo studio di un’opera giovanile di Giuseppe Damiani Almeyda (1834-1911), figura di spicco del panorama architettonico in Sicilia tra la seconda metà dell’Ottocento ed i primi del Novecento. Il progetto del Gran Caffè, vincitore di prestigiosi riconoscimenti, anche se realizzato quando Damiani non era ancora trentenne, risulta molto maturo e segna una tappa importante nella formazione dell’architetto. La ricchissima produzione di Giusppe Damiani Almeyda (Capua 1834 – Palermo 1911) comprende, tra le sue opere giovanili il Progetto per una chiesa cattedrale, presentato all’Esposizione di Belle Arti di Palermo del 1856. Il presente studio è il frutto dell'analisi delle fonti documentarie presenti nell'Archivio Damiani di Palermo, che hanno consentito l'analisi del manufatto architettonico e la ricostruzione congetturale del modello.
