Collisional broadening and shifting parameters of the RamanQbranch ofH2perturbed byN2determined from speed-dependent line profiles at high temperatur…

1996

The broadening and shifting of the {ital Q} branch of H{sub 2} diluted in N{sub 2} are studied at temperatures between 300 and 1200 K. (i) In order to account for the observed anomalies (asymmetric profiles and nonlinearity of the linewidth versus perturber concentration), the results are interpreted using a speed-dependent model in its general form. This model introduces the speed dependence of the shift and the broadening. In contrast with the previous H{sub 2}{endash}rare-gas studies, the high-temperature measurements prove the necessity to include speed-dependent broadening that was ignored in the previous studies. (ii) Concomitantly, we report as well pure H{sub 2} results including Ra…

The complex behaviour of the microquasar GRS 1915+105 in theρclass observed withBeppoSAX

2011

BeppoSAX observed GRS 1915+105 on October 2000 with a long pointing lasting about ten days. During this observation, the source was mainly in the rho class characterized by bursts with a recurrence time of between 40 and 100 s. We identify five segments in the burst structure and accumulate the average spectra of these segments during each satellite orbit. We present a detailed spectral analysis aimed at determining variations that occur during the burst and understanding the physical process that produces them. We compare MECS, HPGSPC, and PDS spectra with several models. Under the assumption that a single model is able to fit all spectra, we find that the combination of a multi-temperatur…

Microscopic Dynamics of Hard Ellipsoids in their Liquid and Glassy Phase

2001

To investigate the influence of orientational degrees of freedom onto the dynamics of molecular systems in its supercooled and glassy regime we have solved numerically the mode-coupling equations for hard ellipsoids of revolution. For a wide range of volume fractions $\phi$ and aspect ratios $x_{0}$ we find an orientational peak in the center of mass spectra $\chi_{000}^{''}(q,\omega)$ and $\phi_{000}^{''} (q,\omega)$ about one decade below a high frequency peak. This orientational peak is the counterpart of a peak appearing in the quadrupolar spectra $\chi_{22m}^{''}(q,\omega)$ and $\phi_{22m}^{''}(q,\omega)$. The latter peak is almost insensitive on $\phi$ for $x_{0}$ close to one, i.e. f…

Dynamical precursor of nematic order in a dense fluid of hard ellipsoids of revolution

2004

We investigate hard ellipsoids of revolution in a parameter regime where no long range nematic order is present but already finite size domains are formed which show orientational order. Domain formation leads to a substantial slowing down of a collective rotational mode which separates well from the usual microscopic frequency regime. A dynamic coupling of this particular mode into all other modes provides a general mechanism which explains an excess peak in spectra of molecular fluids. Using molecular dynamics simulation on up to 4096 particles and on solving the molecular mode coupling equation we investigate dynamic properties of the peak and prove its orientational origin.

Hot electron noise in n-type GaAs in crossed electric and magnetic fields

2006

A Monte Carlo analysis of hot electron transport properties of bulk \textit{n}-type GaAs in crossed electric and magnetic fields is presented. %Magnetic field strengths allowing negligible quantum effects in the electron dynamics during free flights are considered. Effects due to the nonparabolicity of bands are properly taken into account by means of a local parabolic approximation. Stochastic properties of electron transport are analyzed by computing the velocity auto-correlation function and the spectral density of fluctuations. It is shown how the presence of the magnetic field is able to deeply modify electron noise up to high electric field strengths. The resulting features of the vel…

Measurements of inclusive jet spectra in pp and central Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=5.02TeV

2020

This article reports measurements of the pT- differential inclusive jet cross section in pp collisions at √s=5 .02TeV and the pT- differential inclusive jet yield in Pb-Pb 0–10% central collisions at√sNN =5.02TeV. Jets were reconstructed at midrapidity with the ALICE tracking detectors and electromagnetic calorimeter using the anti-kT algorithm. For ppcollisions, we report jet cross sections for jet resolution parameters R =0.1–0.6 over the range 20 < pT, jet < 140 GeV/c, as well as the jet cross-section ratios of different R and comparisons to two next-to-leading-order (NLO)– based theoretical predictions. For Pb-Pb collisions, we report the R=0.2 and R=0.4 jet spectra for 40 < pT, jet < 1…

Transverse Momentum Distribution and Nuclear Modification Factor of Charged Particles inp+PbCollisions atsNN=5.02  TeV

2013

The transverse momentum (pT) distribution of primary charged particles is measured in minimum bias (non-single-diffractive) p + Pb collisions at root(NN)-N-s = 5.02 TeV with the ALICE detector at the LHC. The pT spectra measured near central rapidity in the range 0.5< p(T) < 20 GeV/c exhibit a weak pseudorapidity dependence. The nuclear modification factor R-pPb is consistent with unity for p(T) above 2 GeV/c. This measurement indicates that the strong suppression of hadron production at high p(T) observed in Pb + Pb collisions at the LHC is not due to an initial-state effect. The measurement is compared to theoretical calculations. DOI: 10.1103/PhysRevLett.110.082302

Light propagation in triple-film hetero-opals

2005

Spectra of transmitted and forward scattered light of single opal films and triple-film hetero-opals have been compared. The presence of an intermediate film in hetero-opal results in an anomalous increase of the scattered light intensity and in the change of the mainly ballistic light propagation regime to the mainly diffusive one in the frequency range of the photonic bandgap defect state.

Study of Two BeppoSAX Observations of GX 340+0

2006

We present the results of two BeppoSAX broad band (0.1–200 keV) observations of the Z-source GX 340+0 comparing our results to those of a previous observation of the source. From the color–color diagram we selected three zones and extracted the source energy spectrum from each zone. We find that the model, composed by a blackbody plus a Comptonized component, absorbed by an equivalent hydrogen column of ~6 × 10 22 cm −2 , well fits the spectra in the energy range below 30 keV. At higher energies a power law component with photon index of 2.5 is observed. The associated flux decreases going from the horizontal branch to the flaring branch of the Z-track.

Neutral pion and η meson production at midrapidity in Pb-Pb collisions at sNN=2.76 TeV

2018

Neutral pion and η meson production in the transverse momentum range 1 <pT< 20 GeV/c have been measured at midrapidity by the ALICE experiment at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) in central and semicentral Pb-Pb collisions at sNN  = 2.76 TeV. These results were obtained using the photon conversion method as well as the Photon Spectrometer (PHOS) and Electromagnetic Calorimeter detectors. The results extend the upper pT reach of the previous ALICE π0 measurements from 12 to 20 GeV/c and present the first measurement of η meson production in heavy-ion collisions at the LHC. The η/π0 ratio is similar for the two centralities and reaches at high pT a plateau value of 0.457 ± 0.013stat ± 0.018sys…
