An optimum design of the magnetic circuit of a PM linear electrical generator for the exploitation of sea waves.

2006

In this paper an approach to the optimization of the magnetic design of a Permanent Magnet (PM) linear generator for the exploitation of the energy contained in sea waves is presented. This approach consists of a two step procedure: the first one takes into account the stochastic features of the sea wave motion and describe the working condition of the machine under this motion by adopting a lumped parameter model. In this step the objective function is the energy production. The second step optimizes the generator by using the results obtained in the first step as the constraints that must be fulfilled by a design based on a Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis. Furthermore, the approach i…

Optimization of cogging force in a linear permanent magnet generator for the conversion of sea waves energy

2015

In this paper an approach to the optimization of cogging force in a linear permanent magnet generator for the conversion of sea waves energy is presented. We have optimized the cogging force of a linear permanent magnet generator by using a 3D FEM parametric simulation. Several possible design solutions have been computed. A generator has been built and the results of the minimization procedure has been experimentally validated.

Meta-analysis of the relationship between teachers’ self-efficacy and attitudes toward inclusive education

2022

Abstract This meta-study aims to examine the size of the relationship between teachers' self-efficacy and attitudes toward inclusive education of K-12 students with special educational needs and to identify potential moderators (publication, sample, and research procedure characteristics). We synthesized the research conducted from 1994 to 2018, and 41 studies were included. Bare-bones meta-analysis with random effect model revealed a sample size weighted correlation coefficient between teachers’ self-efficacy and attitudes as r ¯  = 0.35 (CI = 0.31-0.39). The between-study variations were not associated with hypothesized publication and sample characteristics. However, the self-efficacy me…

A Variational Formulation of the BEM for Elastic-Plastic Analysis

1990

The quasi-static elastic perfectly plastic analysis problem is approached by the boundary element method (BEM). To this purpose, a time semidiscretization is first achieved by finite intervals (Fl) in order to transform, through a variationally consistent procedure, the evolutive problem into a discrete sequence of inelastic holonomic-type “weighted” problems for each of which a mixed boundary/domain min-max principle is established. This principle is then discretized by means of boundary elements (BE) and cell elements (CE), the latter having the only purpose of suitably interpolating the FI weighted yielding laws within the domain. The algebraic governing equations obtained show symmetry …

A Variationally Consistent Time Modelling of Elastic-Plastic Constitutive Equations

1991

A general energy-based time discretization method for evolutive analysis is presented. Most known time integration procedures (mid-point rule, backward difference, etc.) are shown to be particular cases of it. For space continuous systems, a sequence of weighted boundary value problems of deformation-theory plasticity are obtained, each characterizable by a number of variational principles useful for finite element discretization.

A closed-form solution for natural frequencies of thin-walled cylinders with clamped edges

2016

Abstract This paper presents an approximate closed-form solution for the free-vibration problem of thin-walled clamped–clamped cylinders. The used indefinite equations of motion are classic. They derive from Reissner׳s version of Love׳s theory, properly modified with Donnell׳s assumptions, but an innovative approach has been used to find the equations of natural frequencies, based on a solving technique similar to Rayleigh׳s method, on the Hamilton׳s principle and on a proper constructions of the eigenfuctions. Thanks to the used approach, given the geometric and mechanical characteristics of the cylinder, the model provides the natural frequencies via a sequence of explicit algebraic equat…

A new interpretation and practical aspects of the direct-methods modulus sum function. VIII

2001

Since the first publication of the direct-methods modulus sum function [Rius (1993). Acta Cryst. A49, 406-409], the application of this function to a variety of situations has been shown in a series of seven subsequent papers. In this way, much experience about this function and its practical use has been gained. It is thought by the authors that it is now the right moment to publish a more complete study of this function which also considers most of this practical knowledge. The first part of the study relates, thanks to a new interpretation, this function to other existing phase-refinement functions, while the second shows, with the help of test calculations on a selection of crystal stru…

An Optical Technique for Springback Measurement in Axisymmetrical Deep Drawing Operations

2001

Abstract In this paper, a measurement technique based on the shadow moire method has been set up to evaluate the springback phenomenon in deep drawing operations. Two proper coefficients are introduced to quantitatively describe the investigated effect. In particular, the proposed technique is able to acquire the final profile of the drawn parts along one or more lateral contour, once extracted out from the dies, and compare such profile with the ideal one derived from the dies CAD geometry. The proposed technique has been applied to an axisymmetrical deep drawing operation, and, moreover, the influence of the blankholder force level and lubricating conditions has been taken into account. T…
