Comparative characterization of a novel cad-cam polymer-infiltrated-ceramic-network.
2015
Background The field of dental ceramics for CAD-CAM is enriched with a new innovative material composition having a porous three-dimensional structure of feldspathic ceramic infiltrated with acrylic resins. The aim of this study is to determine the mechanical properties of Polymer-Infiltrated-Ceramic-Network (PICN) and compare its performance with other ceramics and a nano-ceramic resin available for CAD-CAM systems. Material and Methods In this study a total of five different materials for CAD-CAM were investigated. A polymer-infiltrated ceramic (Vita Enamic), a nano-ceramic resin (Lava Ultimate), a feldspathic ceramic (Mark II), a lithium disilicate ceramic (IPS-e max CAD) and finally a Le…

Nothodissotis (Melastomataceae), a new genus from Atlantic Central Africa, including the new species N. alenensis from Equatorial Guinea
2019
Based on morphological and phylogenetic evidence, a new genus of Melastomataceae (Melastomateae), Nothodissotis Veranso-Libalah & G.Kadereit, gen. nov., is described from Atlantic Central Africa. Nothodissotis is distinguished from other African Melastomateae genera by its calyx-lobes that are notched at apex and asymmetrical (vs. entire and symmetrical). Nothodissotis includes two species: the type species N.barteri (Hook.f.) Veranso-Libalah & G.Kadereit, comb. nov. (syn. Dissotisbarteri Hook.f.), and the new species N.alenensis Veranso-Libalah & O. Lachenaud, sp. nov., described and illustrated here. Both species are restricted to open vegetation on rock outcrops w…

Influence of cell-cell contact between L. thermotolerans and S. cerevisiae on yeast interactions and the exo-metabolome
2019
International audience; Sequential fermentation of grape must inoculated with L. thermotolerans and then S. cerevisiae 24 h later (typical wine-making practice) was conducted with or without cell-cell contact between the two yeast species. We monitored cell viability of the two species throughout fermentation by flow cytometry. The cell viability of S. cerevisiae decreased under both conditions, but the decrease was greater if there was cell-cell contact. An investigation of the nature of the interactions showed competition between the two species for nitrogen compounds, oxygen, and must sterols. Volatile-compound analysis showed differences between sequential and pure fermentation and that…
A large number of metal analysis of Hispanic aes coins are published. They have revealed that the ternary alloy (copper, lead and tin), with an erratic composition was the most employed. Nevertheless, two areas with …
Automatic Biological Cell Counting Using a Modified Gradient Hough Transform
2017
AbstractWe present a computational method for pseudo-circular object detection and quantitative characterization in digital images, using the gradient accumulation matrix as a basic tool. This Gradient Accumulation Transform (GAT) was first introduced in 1992 by Kierkegaard and recently used by Kaytanli & Valentine. In the present article, we modify the approach by using the phase coding studied by Cicconet, and by adding a “local contributor list” (LCL) as well as a “used contributor matrix” (UCM), which allow for accurate peak detection and exploitation. These changes help make the GAT algorithm a robust and precise method to automatically detect pseudo-circular objects in a microscop…
Interstitial pulmonary inflammation due to Microbacterium sp. after heart transplantation.
2006
A coryneform bacterium was isolated from the bronchoalveolar aspirate of a patient with interstitial pulmonary inflammation. Commercial systems identified the isolate as Corynebacterium sp. or Aureobacterium sp./Corynebacterium aquaticum, but 16S rRNA gene analysis unequivocally attributed it to the genus Microbacterium. This represents the first documented case of Microbacterium pulmonary infection.
Actinomadura pelletieri mycetoma--an atypical case with spine and abdominal wall involvement.
2011
We describe a case of mycetoma caused by Actinomadura pelletieri with simultaneous involvement of the spine, abdominal wall and retroperitoneal space in a man who had suffered from ‘Madura foot’ 10 years earlier. The characteristics of this case were analysed and contextualized among those of other cases of mycetoma caused by other micro-organisms found through a review of the international literature. The rarity of the disease in industrialized countries and its possible atypical presentations may hinder a prompt diagnosis. Culture techniques that allow detection of slow-growing fungi and actinomycetes should be routinely used when dealing with tissue samples from patients from tropical an…
Molecular evidence for ongoing complementarity and horizontal gene transfer in endosymbiotic systems of mealybugs
2014
[EN] Intracellular bacterial supply of essential amino acids is common among sap-feeding insects, thus complementing the scarcity of nitrogenous compounds in plant phloem. This is also the role of the two mealybug endosymbiotic systems whose genomes have been sequenced. In the nested endosymbiotic system from Planococcus citri (Pseudococcinae), “Candidatus Tremblaya princeps” and “Candidatus Moranella endobia” cooperate to synthesize essential amino acids, while in Phenacoccus avenae (Phenacoccinae) this function is performed by its single endosymbiont “Candidatus Tremblaya phenacola.” However, little is known regarding the evolution of essential amino acid supplementation strategies in oth…
