A classical result of Gaschütz affirms that given a finite A-generated group G and a prime p, there exists a group G# and an epimorphism phi: G# ---> G whose kernel is an elementary abelian p-group which is universal among all groups satisfying this property. This Gaschütz universal extension has also been described in the mathematical literature with the help of the Cayley graph. We give an elementary and self-contained proof of the fact that this description corresponds to the Gaschütz universal extension. Our proof depends on another elementary proof of the Nielsen-Schreier theorem, which states that a subgroup of a free group is free.

[EN] Within the context of UPV’s project for improving the learning process through innovation, the TASCA group has developed and applied different strategies to assess student’s out-of-class work. This work has allowed us to collect feedback from proposed out-of-class activities, like whether the deadlines for assignments have been under or overestimated, or students’ opinion, to improve thos activities. We have test the usefulness of these strategies in nine different degrees. In general, there is a great variability in the time students devote to a given task and, in some cases, no positive correlation is observed between that time and the obtained results. [EN] IoT is a concept referred to a network of common objects interconnected through the Internet. This is one of the main areas with growing interest and also necessary for the Telecommunication and Telematics Engineering students. The main constraints which face the students with IoT are the integration of the hardware as well as the need for management systems to handle the amount of data they generate by specific software. This work shows some experiences done by a group of students in the Telematics Engineering Degree and the Master of Telecommunications.

Joint Distribution of Polarization-Multiplexed UWB and WiMAX Radio in PON

[EN] In this paper, the feasibility of the joint distribution of ultra-wideband (UWB) and WIMAX wireless using polarization multiplexing as a coexistence technique is proposed and experimentally demonstrated within the framework of passive optical networks (PON). Four single- and orthogonal-polarization multiplexing schemes are studied targeting to reduce the mutual interference when UWB and WiMAX are distributed jointly through standard single-mode fiber (SSMF) without transmission impairments compensation techniques and amplification.
