The present status of the EPS nuclear PDFs

2010

The recent global analyses of the nuclear parton distribution functions (nPDFs) lend support to the validity of the factorization theorem of QCD in high-energy processes involving bound nucleons. With a special attention on our latest global analysis EPS09, we review the recent developements in the domain of nuclear PDFs.

Phase diagram of a model adsorbate with internal quantum states

1992

Abstract An adsorbate in the strong binding and small corrugation limit is studied. The resulting two-dimensional fluid is treated in the adiabatic approximation: the translations of the heavy molecules are treated classically, whereas the molecular quantum degrees of freedom are modelled by interacting two state tunneling systems. The complete temperature/coverage phase diagram is obtained to a high degree of precision by a new combination of finite size scaling ideas with Path Integral Monte Carlo techniques. Even this simplified adsorbate model possesses a surprisingly complex phase diagram including first- and second-order transitions as well as tricritical and triple points. We identif…

Renormalization and Scale Evolution of the Soft-Quark Soft Function

2020

Soft functions defined in terms of matrix elements of soft fields dressed by Wilson lines are central components of factorization theorems for cross sections and decay rates in collider and heavy-quark physics. While in many cases the relevant soft functions are defined in terms of gluon operators, at subleading order in power counting soft functions containing quark fields appear. We present a detailed discussion of the properties of the soft-quark soft function consisting of a quark propagator dressed by two finite-length Wilson lines connecting at one point. This function enters in the factorization theorem for the Higgs-boson decay amplitude of the $h\to\gamma\gamma$ process mediated by…

Mapping geographical inequalities in oral rehydration therapy coverage in low-income and middle-income countries, 2000-17

2020

Background: Oral rehydration solution (ORS) is a form of oral rehydration therapy (ORT) for diarrhoea that has the potential to drastically reduce child mortality; yet, according to UNICEF estimates, less than half of children younger than 5 years with diarrhoea in low-income and middle-income countries (LMICs) received ORS in 2016. A variety of recommended home fluids (RHF) exist as alternative forms of ORT; however, it is unclear whether RHF prevent child mortality. Previous studies have shown considerable variation between countries in ORS and RHF use, but subnational variation is unknown. This study aims to produce high-resolution geospatial estimates of relative and absolute coverage o…

Radon-Nikodym theorem in quasi *-algebras

2013

In this paper some properties of continuous representable linear functionals on a quasi $*$-algebra are investigated. Moreover we give properties of operators acting on a Hilbert algebra, whose role will reveal to be crucial for proving a Radon-Nikodym type theorem for positive linear functionals.

L p-Spaces and the Radon–Nikodym Theorem

2020

In this chapter, we study the spaces of functions whose pth power is integrable. In Section 7.2, we first derive some of the important inequalities (Holder, Minkowski, Jensen) and then in Section 7.3 investigate the case p=2 in more detail.

Homogeneous actions on the random graph

2018

We show that any free product of two countable groups, one of them being infinite, admits a faithful and homogeneous action on the Random Graph. We also show that a large class of HNN extensions or free products, amalgamated over a finite group, admit such an action and we extend our results to groups acting on trees. Finally, we show the ubiquity of finitely generated free dense subgroups of the automorphism group of the Random Graph whose action on it have all orbits infinite.
