Pulsed laser cleaning of oxidized metallic surfaces in electrochemically controlled liquid confinement
1997
Pulsed laser cleaning of oxidized metallic surfaces is studied. To our knowledge, for the first time, it has been demonstrated that the application of pulsed laser irradiation in a liquid confinement at controlled electrochemical potential enhances the oxide film removal from metal surfaces. Systematic studies on simulated corrosion product films using optical reflectance profile, energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, and piezoelectric transducer measurements, have revealed that efficient oxide film removal by laser irradiation is achieved if a basic electrolyte solution is used and a cathodic potential is imposed. The advantages of this novel technique against laser irradiation in air are …
Electronic Structure Changes across the Metamagnetic Transition in FeRh via Hard X-Ray Photoemission
2012
International audience; Stoichiometric FeRh undergoes a temperature-induced antiferromagnetic (AFM) to ferromagnetic (FM) transition at similar to 350 K. In this Letter, changes in the electronic structure accompanying this transition are investigated in epitaxial FeRh thin films via bulk-sensitive valence-band and core-level hard x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy with a photon energy of 5.95 keV. Clear differences between the AFM and FM states are observed across the entire valence-band spectrum and these are well reproduced using density-functional theory. Changes in the 2p core levels of Fe are also observed and interpreted using Anderson impurity model calculations. These results indicat…
Modulation of the organic heterojunction behavior, from electrografting to enhanced sensing properties
2019
International audience; The energy barrier of an organic heterojunction built on ITO electrodes and made from a low conductive sublayer (Cu(F16Pc)) covered by a highly conductive semiconductor (LuPc2) is modulated by electrografting of organic layers before depositing the sublayer. Impedance spectroscopy clearly demonstrates the increase of the energy barrier at the ITO – sublayer interface. Additionally, the electrografting is a versatile and promising method for the tuning of heterojunctions. The I(V) characteristics of the heterojunctions are highly modified by the electrografting. The same electromodifications of electrodes carried out on LuPc2 resistors lead to a modification of their …

Characterization of Non-linear Inductors Including Thermal Effects for Power Applications
2018
This paper is focused on the behaviour of non-linear inductors employed in DC/DC switching converters considering the effects due to variations of both current and temperature. The characterization of the inductors is performed by a buck converter operated to stimulate the inductor under test by a constant current with superimposed a large signal. The measurements are carried out at several inductor’s temperature values. Data are automatically collected by a novel virtual instrument developed by the authors in LabVIEW® environment aiming to obtain a polynomial based analytical model. The deep knowledge of the inductor model allows its design to be optimized improving the power density of th…

Spatially resolved nanostructural transformation in graphite under femtosecond laser irradiation
2015
Abstract A polycrystalline graphite target was irradiated using infrared (800 nm) femtosecond (120 fs) laser pulses of different energies. Increase of sp 3 bonds percentage and possible diamond crystal formation were investigated ‘in-depth’ and on the irradiated surfaces. Synchrotron X-ray diffraction pattern have shown the presence of a diamond peak in one of the irradiated zones while X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy investigations have shown an increasing tendency of the sp 3 percent in the low power irradiated areas and similarly ‘in the depth’ of the higher power irradiated zones. Multiple wavelength Micro-Raman investigations have confirmed this trend along with an ‘in-depth’ (but not…
External quantum efficiency measurements used to study the stability of differently deposited perovskite solar cells
2020
The instability exhibited by perovskite solar cells when exposed to the environment under illumination is one of the major obstacles for the entry of perovskite technology in the photovoltaic market. In this work, we use the external quantum efficiency (EQE) technique to study the photoinduced degradation of two types of solar cells having CH3NH3PbI3 as an absorber layer: one deposited by spin coating with an n-i-p architecture and the other deposited by evaporation with an inverted p-i-n structure. We also study the effect of different encapsulants to protect the cells against atmospheric agents. We find that EQE provides information regarding the areas of the cell most susceptible to degr…
Frequency-Downconversion Stability of PMMA Coatings in Hybrid White Light-Emitting Diodes
2015
We report on the properties of a poly(methyl methacrylate)-based coating used as a host for an organic dye in hybrid white light-emitting diodes. The device is composed by a pump source, which is a standard inorganic GaN/InGaN blue light-emitting diode (LED) emitting at around 450 nm, and a spin-coated conversion layer making use of Lumogen® F Yellow 083. Under prolonged irradiation, the coating exhibits significant bleaching, thus degrading the color rendering performance of the LED. We present experimental results that confirm that the local temperature rise of the operating diode does not affect the conversion layer. It is also proven that, during the test, the photostability of the orga…
Synthesis of cubic and hexagonal NaYF4:Er3+
2012
Up-conversion luminescence process, which is related to absorption of several light photons (usually infrared) followed by emission of light in the visible or even ultraviolet spectral regions, has attracted interest of scientists due to its potential practical use in various applications including biolabels, temperature sensors, light sources etc. Although observable in d- and f-ions doped materials, the highest efficiency of up-conversion luminescence is usually attained in lanthanides doped hosts. Among huge variety of materials suitable as up-conversion hosts the most prominent is considered to be NaYF4, both due to its low phonon energy and multisite nature of the crystalline lattice. …
